Campuses & Residences

It has 3 main campuses - The Fennell Campus on the Hamilton Mountain, the Stoney Creek and the Mohawk-McMaster Institute for Applied Health Sciences at McMaster University.

Fennell Campus

  • It is the main campus of Mohawk College in Hamilton.
  • It is the home to College’s McKeil School of Business named in honour of Blair and Kathy McKeil.

Programs at Fennell Campus

  • McKeil School of Business is home to students in advertising, business, marketing, public relations and office administration programs.

Stoney Creek Campus

  • Home to Marshall School of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship.
  • Mohawk trains more than, 2,400 apprentices at the Stoney Creek Campus each year, which is largest training center in Ontario.

Mohawk-McMaster Institute for Applied Health Sciences

Housing

Three types of residence options are available for students at Mohawk

    1. Mohawk Residence

  • It is located in the campus and has bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom attached with the room.
  • It has other facilities likes games room, common kitchen, laundry room, lounges, movie lounge, front desk, maintenance and housekeeping.
  • All residence students have to avail mandatory meal plan which is in the range of CAD 2,500-CAD 3,400.
  • Students should apply as soon as possible to get a place in the campus residence.

2. Homestay for International Students

  • The international students get a chance to stay with Canadian families outside the campus.

The requirements are different for different programs. Here, the requirements which are common to all are discussed along with the application process.

General Requirements for the Students

  • Students must be 18 years or older.
  • 10+2 High School certificate with Math & Science as compulsory subjects or 10+ diploma graduates with 60% average (India).
  • The students need to produce secondary school result which should fulfil the condition of the mentioned scores.

English Language Proficiency Requirement

  • All International students must prove their proficiency in English through English Language Tests accepted by Mohawk College.

  • Students need to apply for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) only for domestic students.
  • To apply for Awards and Bursaries, students need to apply for Financial Need assessment Profile where they need to mention why should they must receive an award.
  • International Scholarships and Bursaries are offered to 2 types for International students.

Work while you Study (Fall Season)

Mohawk College provides part-time and full-time employment opportunities to its students to help them fund their studies. Eligibility criteria for the same:

  • Students must be registered in a full-time post-secondary program or in a continuing education diploma or certificate program.
  • Complete Financial Need Assessment Profile (FNAP) and show financial need.
  • Must have good academic standing.
  • Can work up to 15 hours per week, International students are eligible for this program.
  • The rate of pay is CAD 11.60 per hour.
  • International students need not fill FNAP application, can apply directly for student positions.

Students need to fulfil the eligibility criteria to be considered for the program.

Benefits of Work Study program:

  • Get paid career-related work experience while studying at Mohawk.

Employment Opportunities for International Students

There are several employment opportunities available to International Students.

Co-op/Internship Study and Work Permit

  • Offers the highest possible value for International students.
  • Students can study and work to gain experience and also extend their visa after graduation and work up to 3 years.
  • International Students who have enrolled in a co-op/internship program will need to apply for a work permit.

Off-Campus Work Program

  • Study permit will allow the students to work up to 20 hours per week. The student must meet the following requirements:
    1. Have a valid study permit
    2. To be a full-time student
    3. Enrolled at a Designated Learning Institution
    4. Studying in an academic, vocational or professional training program
  • A student must get a Social Insurance Number.

Post-Graduate Work Permit

  • International students after completion of their post-secondary or graduate certificate program will have the opportunity to work for 3 years in Canada.
  • They must apply for work permit. Fee for the work permit is CAD 150.
  • Also, apply for a work permit after graduation in the period of 90 days.
  • A student must have Social Insurance Number and must apply for it before-hand.
