Sault College Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Sault College sets separate academic and English thresholds for Diploma, Graduate Certificate, Nursing, and Aviation streams.
Graduate Certificate Requirements
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); some streams accept a 3-year diploma with 60%
- English: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 88 (no test below 21), PTE 60 (no band below 54), or Duolingo 120 (no band below 115)
- Credential verification: WES ICAP evaluation of Indian transcripts
- Application fee: CAD 150 (INR 9,300) non-refundable via OCAS
UG Diploma Requirements
- Academic: Class 12 pass with 60% or higher for most programs; Nursing 70% including Biology, Aviation 70% including Math and Physics
- English: IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT 79-80 (no test below 20), PTE 60 (no band below 52), or Duolingo 110 (no band below 105); Nursing requires IELTS 6.5, Aviation IELTS 7.0
Key insight: Sault College offers an English test waiver for applicants who completed a minimum of two years of study in English at an institution in an approved English-speaking country. Indian students from CBSE/ICSE English-medium schools should still submit IELTS, since Indian secondary schooling is not on the college’s automatic waiver list.
Sault College Acceptance Rate 2027
Sault College does not publish an official acceptance rate; third-party estimates place selectivity at 83% (estimated) across international applicants, reflecting its open-access community college model. Programs with capped seats such as Practical Nursing, BScN, and Aviation are substantially more competitive than the college-wide average.
Selection is grade-based for most streams, so meeting the minimum academic and English thresholds gives a strong offer probability. Health, Nursing, and Aviation intakes fill on a first-qualified-first-offered basis, making the OCAS opening date critical.
Reality check: Indian applicants meeting the 60% Class 12 or Bachelor’s 55% cutoff with IELTS 6.5 typically receive an offer within four to six weeks of applying for Fall entry to a Graduate Certificate.

Sault College Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

- Graduate employment rate: 85% within six months of graduation (Ontario KPI, college average)
- Median starting salary: CAD 40,000 to CAD 55,000 per year (INR 24.80 to 34.10 lakh) — market median for Ontario college graduates
- Top hiring sectors: Healthcare (Sault Area Hospital, long-term care networks), skilled trades employers, regional business services, and Aviation operators
- PGWP outcome: Two-year diplomas and one-year Graduate Certificates qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit up to three years; a common Express Entry pathway for Indian graduates
- Career support: Employment Solutions Hub offering resume review, interview coaching, and job fairs each semester
Insider note: Practical Nursing and BScN graduates from Sault College have the strongest hiring pipeline into Northern Ontario healthcare, where the provincial nursing shortage creates immediate placement.
Sault College vs Peer Colleges
Compared on annual PG fee, city cost, and Collegedunia rank against other Ontario public colleges popular with Indian students.
| College | Collegedunia Study Abroad | Avg Annual PG Fee (CAD/INR) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sault College | #83 | 17,000 to 19,000 / 10.54 to 11.78 lakh | Lowest cost of living in Ontario, small-city PGWP path |
| Cambrian College | #65 (est.) | 16,500 to 18,500 / 10.23 to 11.47 lakh | Sudbury base, similar northern Ontario profile |
| Northern College | #78 (est.) | 16,000 to 18,000 / 9.92 to 11.16 lakh | Timmins main campus, mining and healthcare focus |
| Canadore College | #70 (est.) | 17,500 to 19,500 / 10.85 to 12.09 lakh | North Bay campus, Aviation and Digital Media strength |
| Fleming College | #55 (est.) | 18,000 to 20,000 / 11.16 to 12.40 lakh | Peterborough base, environmental technology reputation |
Sault College stands out on cost-of-living arbitrage — Indian students save CAD 400 to CAD 600 per month on rent versus GTA-belt colleges while retaining identical PGWP eligibility on qualifying programs.
Sault College fits Indian applicants who want a PGWP-eligible Canadian credential at INR 10 to 15 lakh per year, prefer a low-cost northern Ontario base over the GTA, and are comfortable in a small-city academic setting. The tuition-plus-living total under CAD 38,000 matched against a CAD 40,000 to CAD 55,000 graduate salary keeps the ROI window tight and Express Entry pathways realistic on a Canadian study permit.
It is not the right pick for applicants targeting research-heavy Master’s degrees, big-city internship networks, or QS-ranked prestige. Those goals point instead to a Master’s at a Canadian university such as University of Windsor or Ontario Tech, where academic rigour and urban employer density outweigh the Sault Ste. Marie cost advantage.
Sault College FAQs
Ques. What English test waivers does Sault College offer Indian applicants?
Ans. Sault College waives the English test only when the applicant completed at least two years of study in English at an institution in an approved English-speaking country such as Canada, UK, USA, Australia, or New Zealand. Indian CBSE, ICSE, or state-board English-medium schooling does not qualify for automatic waiver, so Indian applicants must submit IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, or Duolingo scores meeting the program-specific minimum with the OCAS application.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Sault College?
Ans. Yes, full-time international students at Sault College can work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during regular study terms and full-time during scheduled breaks, under IRCC study permit rules. Common part-time roles in Sault Ste. Marie include retail, hospitality, and campus positions paying around CAD 17 per hour (Ontario minimum wage). No separate work permit is required as long as the study permit carries the standard employment condition.
Ques. Does Sault College require GRE or GMAT for Graduate Certificates?
Ans. No, Sault College does not require GRE or GMAT scores for any Graduate Certificate, Diploma, or undergraduate program. Selection is based on academic transcripts, English test scores (IELTS 6.5 for Graduate Certificates), and a completed OCAS application. This is a key difference from Master’s programs at Canadian research universities, where GMAT is commonly needed for MBA admission.
Ques. What is the OCAS application fee and can it be waived?
Ans. The OCAS application fee is CAD 150 (INR 9,300) covering up to five program choices across Ontario colleges. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Sault College and OCAS do not offer general fee waivers to Indian applicants, but authorised counsellor partners occasionally sponsor the fee under recruitment agreements. Payment is made directly on Ontariocolleges.ca via credit card or debit at the time of submission.
Ques. Which Indian banks recognise Sault College for education loans?
Ans. Sault College is a recognised DLI on the education loan panels of SBI, HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, and non-banking lenders such as Avanse and InCred. Loan sanctions typically cover full tuition plus living expenses up to INR 40 lakh; interest rates start around 9.5% for secured loans and 10.5% for unsecured loans in August 2026. GIC and first-semester tuition proof are usually required at disbursement.
Ques. Can dependents accompany a Sault College student on a study permit?
Ans. Yes, spouses of Sault College Graduate Certificate and diploma students can apply for an open work permit valid for the duration of the study permit under IRCC rules effective 2026. Dependent children can accompany on a visitor record and attend Canadian public schools free. Additional financial proof of around CAD 4,000 per accompanying dependent is required at visa filing along with the base CAD 20,635 for the primary applicant.
Ques. How does the WES credential evaluation work for Sault College?
Ans. Sault College accepts a WES ICAP Course-by-Course evaluation for Indian transcripts, ordered directly on the WES Canada portal. The applicant must have transcripts sent by the issuing Indian university or board directly to WES; personal copies are not accepted. Processing takes 20 business days after all documents arrive. The final WES report is shared electronically with Sault College via OCAS and costs approximately CAD 245 including delivery.
Ques. Is Sault College PGWP-eligible for all its programs?
Ans. Sault College is a Designated Learning Institution and most of its full-time diplomas, Graduate Certificates, and Bachelor’s programs are PGWP-eligible under the 2026 IRCC field-of-study rules. Programs of eight months or longer qualify, with permit length matching program duration up to three years. Applicants should verify the specific PGWP eligibility of their intended program on the IRCC eligible-programs list before applying, since eligibility for Graduate Certificates depends on the aligned field of study.

Overall experience is amazing I meet new people and got to learn about new cultures apart from it there is academic growth, social connections, independence and responsibilty, challenges and stress, personal development and most importantly I will have growth in my skills and could learn many new things about the business and international business as well and we have stress to pay our fees which shows that we are more responsible and independent now as we can't ask our parents for the expenses
Campus Life
There are different events every week and even the college arranges many educational trips for the students biweekly and they celebrate every festival whether it is Indian, Nepal, Canadian or any other. clubs are formed and mental health is something that is reallly taken care of in my college, WIFI is available and GYM membership is being provided
Overview
The agent suggested me this university. I wanted to study public health so I thought a health administration degree is good enough too. I am enjoying my college life so far. Made friends. All of them are nice, fun, and friendly. No one has animosity towards one another. We all understand and work together.
Campus Life
Campus life is fun. Everyone’s approachable and friendly. There’s proper WiFi, sports facilities, recreation center for games like kayaking, cycling, tennis, etc. in a different area than college. In college there’s gym, library, basketball court facilities and more.
