MD in Ayurveda is a 3-year, full-time post-graduate course divided into 6 semesters. Ayurveda or Ayurvedic science deals with the study of health care covering the broad areas of good lifestyle & wellness. Ayurveda, besides being a medical science, is the ‘Science of life’. The job of an Ayurvedic professional is challenging, keeping in view the wide range of incurable diseases newly emerging, and the failure of other systems of medicine, such as Allopathy, to address them.

Ayurveda is India's traditional, natural system of medicine that has been practiced in the country for more than 5,000 years. Ayurveda provides an integrated approach to preventing and treating illnesses through lifestyle interventions and natural therapies. The Ayurvedic theory states that all disease begins with an imbalance or stress in the individual's consciousness. Lifestyle interventions are a major ayurvedic preventive and therapeutic approach.

As per the discipline, the inherent theory of ‘Tridosha’ states that all life can be expressed in terms of the primary elements of air, fire and water; and that it is the imbalance of these elements that brings about illness. To restore these balances, Ayurveda has developed several natural therapies such as nutrition plans, massage, exercise (yoga), aromatherapy, colour therapy, music, meditation, and ethical living.

Ayurvedic medicine is holistic, which means viewing the body and mind as a whole. Ayurveda not only treats a person's physical complaints, but it also changes lifestyle practices to help maintain or improve health.

According to Ayurveda, the five elements of nature combine in the body as three components known as Vatta, Pitta, and Kapha. These Doshas relate closely to the basic elements of nature and to specific functions of the body. A balance of these Doshas is thought to be required for optimal health.

MD in Ayurveda: What is it About?

Ayurveda has been the main guiding force in drug discovery from traditional medicine. In concept, this system is rooted in folk or ethno-medicine, and in practice it shows further refinement and development in accordance with local traditions. Isolation of active principles from crude drugs, their pharmacological evaluation, therapeutic testing, and clinical application resulted in the genesis of modem or Allopathic medicine.

To keep the opportunity alive for further development in traditional as well as modem medicines, it is necessary to have an uninterrupted connection with ethno-medicine. Since the practice of ethno-medicine is based on the age-long indigenous knowledge which has been orally transmitted through generations, and sustained in traditions, there is an urgent need to document such knowledge. The on-going strategies adopted in India to document the precious traditional knowledge and conserve medicinal plants are based on Ayurveda.

India, with her rich herbal wealth and traditional history of the medicinal use of plants, has tremendous scope to provide leadership in ensuring human health and longevity.

Meditation helps effortlessly enter a state of expanded awareness and inner quiet that refreshes the mind and restores balance. Since the mind and body are inseparable, the body is naturally balanced through the practice of meditation. In the state of restful awareness created through meditation, the heart rate and breath slow down, the body decreases the production of ‘stress’ hormones, such as cortisol and adrenaline, and increases the production of neurotransmitters that enhance wellbeing, including serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins.

Admission :

Student should have completed his BAMS course from a recognized ayurvedic institute. Apart from that, he/she needs to be registered with Indian medical council and also should've either completed or about to complete his compulsory internship. Also, the person needs to qualify medical entrance examination.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure for MD course is INR 430000 with INR 150000 to be paid in the first year of study while INR 140000 to be paid in second and final year of study respectively. So, the fee is pretty feasible as compared to other private colleges teaching medicine.

Placement Experience :

One can either get placed by clearing government based exam or can get good exposure by interning at the hospital the college is affiliated with. Post completion of the course, the college's affiliated hospital also gives placement.
