Ques. What kind of difficulty can one expect for the BITS HD? Are there numerical questions involved? Should the candidates give importance to theory, or problems?

● Top Answer By Girish Singh on 02 Feb 21

Ans. Bits Pilani conducts online competition for getting admission in higher degree programs like Master in engineering or masters in pharma. BITS HD conducts an online exam of 2 hr. having 2 papers: Paper I: Mathematics; syllabus includes probability & statistics, Matrix and linear algebra, calculus and complex problem; plus, English. Paper II: Core subject: Questions related to your core engineering stream. Here is detailed information about BITS HD exam: BITS HD exam Details Mode of exam Online Language of exam English Number and type of questions Test 1 (60 questions) Test 2 (100 questions) Number of questions Test 1 (60 minutes) Test 2 (120 minutes) Duration of exam 2 hours Total number of questions 100 Marking scheme Correct answer 3 marks and penalty of 1 mark for the wrong answer. Overall BITS HD exam analysis shows that it is not a very difficult exam especially if you have prepared well for GATE. GATE preparation can suffice your preparation for BITS HD. Overall paper’s difficulty is moderate.  Paper 1 is comparatively more difficult than paper 2 as it includes the core subject. It is advisable to go through the previous 20 years question paper of GATE and BITS HD to get a better idea about the pattern of questions asked and important areas that need to be focused more.  Most of the questions are direct and not lengthy, still, students find it difficult to finish their paper in time. It is advisable to do more practice and enhance your calculation speed. Lastly, prepare your GATE it will help you to get better performance in BITS HD.Read more

Ques. How should I prepare for BITS HD test within 1 month?

● Top Answer By Rachita Mitra on 14 Jan 21

Ans. If you have prepared for GATE, you do not need to worry about doing well in BITS HD.  Even if you have not, you can prepare well in 1 month with a smart study plan.  Go through the previous year’s question papers and online resources for the BITS HD examination. Make a thorough understanding of the syllabus. Read the formulas and practice them. NCERT textbooks are good for preparation. You can practice online or from any BITS study material available on market. Try to solve at least 10 practice papers before appearing for BITS HD. Do not lose marks in the English section. It is quite easy and scoring. The pattern was changed, and the total marks of the exam are not 300. The exam consists of paper one in which mathematics and English questions for 90 marks and the second paper has technical branch-specific questions with 210 marks. The difficulty of the BITS HD exam is not that high as students can easily score if they do specific preparation for their exams. Unlike the GATE exam, not all the questions are conceptual, and some of them are quite easy, and theoretical questions are also included.Read more

Ques. What is the difficulty level of the BITS HD exam compared to the GATE?

● Top Answer By Sahil Sachdeva on 14 Jan 21

Ans. GATE exam focuses on how much the students' concepts are clear and how they can apply them for solving the questions. Most importantly, it contains numerical questions, so it would be better to expect fewer theory questions in the GATE exam. Whereas, BITS HD exam contains the majority of theory questions. You are required to solve more problems in less time. You also have to prepare for aptitude and English. These sections are quite scoring and help to get a better score.  Difficulty Level - Comparison: GATE consists mostly of numerical, while 80 to 90% of the questions in BITS HD are theoretical.  You will hardly find 10 to 15 numerical questions in HD paper out of hundred questions. Numerical questions are not like GATE. These are mostly the formula and solve type. Nevertheless, some numerical may be found very tricky.  You need to have a thorough understanding of your syllabus for BITS HD. Theoretical questions will come from anywhere, and they will test your understanding of the respective topic. BITS HD consists of 15 maths questions that are way more difficult than GATE, 15 general English, and 70 engineering discipline questions. One most important thing to add is that BITS have also started admitting students by accepting their GATE score. If you have a 55+ GATE score, you can get admission to BITS.Read more

Ques. How should one prepare for the BITS HD exam for ECE?

● Top Answer By Suruchi Gupta on 14 Jan 21

Ans. BITS HD is all about how quickly students can solve conceptual questions. The syllabus is very similar to GATE. Discussed below are some tips which will be helpful for your preparation. Preparation Tips: You should not spend too much time on the problems you are not sure about. Instead, utilize the time on the questions you feel that you can do fast. If you are an ECE student, make sure you have a clear concept about all the subjects.  Go through the previous year's questions of GATE.  You should not underestimate paper 1 as it is quite scoring. There is no necessity to prepare the EE part. For paper one, do not leave any topic mentioned in the syllabus. Especially the surface integral, triple integral, and geometry of complex numbers prepare them very well.  For English, solving questions from slightly tough sources can be done because BITS HD is tougher than GATE.  If any question is wrong or incomplete, you should avoid attempting it.Read more
