Fibrous materials are materials which are made up of fibres. A thin thread-like natural or artificial substance that is especially used for making clothes and ropes is known as Fibre. Plants and animals are some of the common sources of fibre.   • Natural Fibres: Natural fibres are those fibres that are obtained naturally either from plants or animals.   • Thermal Insulation: These materials have been used in the encapsulation of air within the fibres as this will help in the prevention of transmission of heat through the process of convection. It helps in the reduction of conduction of gaseous heats by reducing the collisions between the gas molecules. This is the reason they are used in thermal insulation.
  • Reinforcement Materials: The fibrous materials are made rigid and strong with the help of different types of additives. They can be morphed into different shapes. With this property they are used in the form of fabrics or as reinforcements for making various composites.
  • Civil Engineering: The applications of fibrous materials are in both structural and non-structural materials. They are used for structural reinforcement and in geotextiles as well. They can be used in the applications of fortification and construction management.
  • Yarns: They are often used in the form of multi-filament yarn as it is much more flexible than the single solid filaments of the same width. Knitting is another method that is used in the production of fibres.
  • Non-textile Usage: The fibrous material has been used in a number of non-textile operations due to its stiffness and strength.

The production of fibrous materials requires a lot of reduced density fibres. They have been used in the production of yarn, clothes or garments and can be easily wedged with each other.
