- G.N Devy begins with a note that states India’s literary tradition comes from the rich tradition of tribes and Adivasi’s
- Essayist expresses concern about print culture, urbanization, & commerce by saying that in lack of preservation the literary tradition can be lost.
- According to the author most of the tribal communities in India have cultural similarities with tribal communities of the world. Adding to it he says modern Indian society is a little different from the world of tribal imagination.
- G.N Devy, the essayist talks in detail about different tribes of India like Munda Tribe, Kondh Tribe, and Adi Tribe. The respective tribes are spread into various parts of India.
- Munda Tribe comes under the most researched and studied tribe. The tribe revolted against British rule.
