Class 7 Science Chapter 11 Transportation in Animals and Plants: Important Topics
All livings beings require food, water, and oxygen for their survival and to perform various activities. The food we consume is digested into simple absorbable substances called nutrients in the digestive system.
- The circulatory system helps in the transport of nutrients in glucose, amino acids, and fats to different parts of the body.
- Every cell receives absorbed nutrients through the circulating fluid tissue called blood.
- The excretory system is responsible for the removal of waste from different parts of the body.
- Every cell releases its waste material into the blood to be carried over to excretory organs for expulsion.
- Circulatory System: The circulatory system, also known as the cardiovascular system, pumps blood from the heart to the lungs to get oxygen. The heart then sends oxygenated blood through arteries to the rest of the body. The veins carry oxygen-poor blood back to the heart to start the circulation process.
- Excretion in Animals: Excretion is the process by which animals rid themselves of waste products and of the nitrogenous by-products of metabolism. Organisms, through excretion, control osmotic pressure—the balance between inorganic ions and water—and maintain acid-base balance.
- Transport of Substances in Plants: Transportation takes place on three levels in the case of plants: Transportation of substance from one cell to another, long-Distance Transport of sap within phloem and xylem, and the release and uptake of solute and water by individual cells. Transportation in plants is by three means, which are:
- Diffusion
- Facilitated diffusion
- Active Transport
