NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Science Electric Current and its Effects: Important Points
Electric Current is the flow of charged particles through a conducting medium, like a wire.
- Heating Effect of Electric Current: The conductor becomes hot after some time and produces heat when an electric current is passed through a conductor. This takes place as a result of the conversion of some electric energy passing through the conductor into heat energy. This effect of electric current is known as the heating effect of current.
- Magnetic Effect of Electric Current: When an electric current passes through a wire, it behaves like a magnet, which is the magnetic effect of the electric current. The electric current loses its magnetic effect if it does not passes through. These coils of wire are called electromagnets.
- Electromagnet: An electromagnet is a device that comprises a core of magnetic material surrounded by a coil through which an electric current is passed to magnetize the core.
- An electromagnet is used wherever controllable magnets are required, as in contrivances wherein the magnetic flux is to be varied, reversed, or switched on and off.
