What is NCET 2027?
NCET stands for National Common Entrance Test. NTA conducts it every year on behalf of NCTE. The exam is the only entry route to the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) at all participating institutions across India.
ITEP is a new-generation teaching degree that combines a subject graduation and B.Ed. into a single 4-year programme. If you go the traditional route — a 3-year graduation degree followed by a 2-year B.Ed. — it takes 5 years. ITEP saves you one full year. Students who finish ITEP are directly eligible to appear in CTET and state-level teacher eligibility tests.
NCET is conducted in CBT (Computer-Based Test) mode. The exam tests candidates on languages, teaching aptitude, general reasoning, and domain-specific subjects linked to their chosen ITEP stream. In 2026, 223 institutions participated with a total of 16,950 seats.

NCET Result — Year-wise Reference
| Year | Exam Date | Result Date |
|---|---|---|
| NCET 2025 | April 29, 2025 | May–June 2025 |
| NCET 2026 | April 17–18, 2026 | June 4, 2026 |
| NCET 2027 (Expected) | April 2027 | June 2027 |
The NCET scorecard is valid only for the academic session for which the exam was conducted. You cannot use an NCET 2027 scorecard for admissions in 2028.
NCET 2027 Cutoff
The NCET cutoff refers to the minimum score needed to qualify and secure a seat in an ITEP programme. There are two types of cutoffs to understand: the NTA qualifying cutoff (for being declared as passed) and the institutional admission cutoff (for getting a seat at a specific college).
Types of NCET Cutoff
- NTA Qualifying Cutoff: The minimum percentile or score that NTA sets to declare a candidate as qualified in NCET. Candidates who score below this are not eligible for ITEP admissions.
- Institutional Closing Score: The NCET score at which the last seat in a particular institution’s course and category was filled. This varies significantly by institution, course, and category. Top institutions like Delhi University colleges and IITs will have much higher closing scores.
NCET Expected Cutoff 2027 — Category-wise (General Reference)
| Category | Expected Safe Score for 2027 (Out of 640) |
|---|---|
| General / Unreserved (UR) | 450–470 |
| EWS | 400–425 |
| OBC-NCL | 390–410 |
| SC | 340–370 |
| ST | 310–340 |
| PwD | Below category cutoff (by 5% relaxation) |
Cutoff figures above are estimates based on 2026 projections and previous-year trends. Official NCET 2027 cutoffs will be announced by NTA and individual institutions after the result is declared. Do not treat these as confirmed numbers.
Factors That Affect NCET Cutoff
- Total number of candidates who appear in the exam
- Difficulty level of the NCET 2027 paper
- Total seats available at each participating institution
- Number of counselling rounds conducted
- Category-wise seat distribution at each institution
In 2026, there were 16,950 ITEP seats across 223 institutions. If the seat count increases in 2027, cutoffs could drop slightly for some institutions.
NCET 2027 Marks vs Rank
Understanding the NCET marks vs rank relationship helps you set a realistic score target. NTA converts your raw score into an NTA Score (percentile) to normalise differences in paper difficulty across shifts. Your percentile then determines your rank on the merit list.
How NTA Score (Percentile) is Calculated
NTA uses a normalization formula where your NTA Score (out of 100) equals the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or less than you in that session. A score of 95 means you outperformed 95% of candidates who appeared. Your raw marks and NTA Score may look different — always rely on the NTA Score for merit comparison.
NCET Marks vs Rank — Expected Reference for 2027
| Raw Score (Out of 640) | Expected NTA Score (Percentile) | Expected Rank Range |
|---|---|---|
| 560–640 | 99+ percentile | Top 500 |
| 500–559 | 97–99 percentile | 500–2,500 |
| 450–499 | 93–97 percentile | 2,500–5,500 |
| 400–449 | 85–93 percentile | 5,500–12,000 |
| 350–399 | 70–85 percentile | 12,000–22,000 |
| 300–349 | 55–70 percentile | 22,000–35,000 |
| Below 300 | Below 55 percentile | 35,000+ |
This table is an estimate based on previous-year trends and the 16,950 seat intake in 2026. Actual 2027 ranks will depend on the number of candidates appearing and the paper’s difficulty level.
Candidates aiming for top Delhi University colleges, IIT Kharagpur, or IIT Jodhpur should target a raw score above 500 to be in a comfortable position. For Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs) and state universities, a score between 400 and 450 may be competitive depending on the category.
NCET 2027 Counselling Process
NTA only conducts the NCET exam and announces the result. NTA does not run a centralized counselling process for NCET. After the result is out, each participating institution manages its own admission and merit-list process using your NCET scorecard. You must apply separately to each institution you want to join.
NCTE has issued guidelines that all participating institutions must admit ITEP students only through NCET. Institutions offering ITEP without using NCET scores are acting against these guidelines.
General Steps in NCET 2027 Counselling
- Step 1 — Download Scorecard: After the NCET 2027 result is out in June 2027, download your scorecard from exams.nta.ac.in/NCET.
- Step 2 — Check Participating Institutions: Visit the official websites of all institutions you want to apply to. Each will publish its own counselling schedule, eligibility conditions, and merit-list dates.
- Step 3 — Apply at Institution Level: Fill the admission form at the institution’s admission portal. Most central universities use the Samarth portal (alldunivcuet.samarth.edu.in). Some IITs and NITs may have separate portals.
- Step 4 — Merit List: Each institution releases round-wise merit lists based on NCET scores. Check these regularly on the institution’s website. In 2026, merit lists were released starting July 2026.
- Step 5 — Document Verification: If your name appears on the merit list, report to the institution for document verification on the scheduled date.
- Step 6 — Seat Confirmation and Fee Payment: Pay the admission fee within the deadline specified by the institution to lock your seat.
NCET 2027 Counselling Timeline (Expected)
| Event | Expected Timeline |
|---|---|
| NCET 2027 Result | June 2027 |
| Institution Admission Notifications | June–July 2027 |
| Merit List Round 1 | July 2027 |
| Document Verification — Round 1 | July–August 2027 |
| Merit List Round 2 | August 2027 |
| Spot Round / Stray Vacancy Rounds | August–September 2027 |
| Admissions Close | September 2027 |
Important Tips for NCET Counselling
- Apply to multiple institutions simultaneously — do not wait for one merit list before applying to others.
- Keep scanned copies of all documents ready before counselling begins to avoid last-minute rushes.
- For central universities, check whether alldunivcuet.samarth.edu.in covers your target institution or if the institution has a separate portal.
- Each round has a strict deadline for fee payment. Missing the deadline means losing your seat, even if you are on the merit list.

NCET 2027 Preparation Tips
Since NCET 2027 is expected in April 2027, you have about 5 to 6 months from now (October 2026) to prepare. Here is a structured plan to help you use this time well.
1. Use NCERT for All Domain Subjects
Every domain subject question in NCET comes directly from Class 12 NCERT books. Read each chapter carefully, solve the exercises, and make short notes. If you have just finished your boards, your Class 12 preparation already covers most of the domain content. Revise and strengthen — do not start with coaching material before NCERT.
2. Study Teaching Aptitude from CTET Resources
Teaching Aptitude is unique to NCET. The best way to prepare for it is to use CTET Paper 1 books, which cover child development, pedagogy, and learning psychology. Topics like Piaget’s stages, Vygotsky’s ZPD, types of assessment, and inclusive education are common in both CTET and NCET.
3. Strengthen the General Test Section
The General Test carries 100 marks — the highest weight among all compulsory sections. This section rewards consistent daily practice. Spend 30 to 40 minutes daily on quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning. Work through previous year questions for this section separately since the question types are predictable.
4. Practice Language Comprehension Daily
Choose your 2 languages early and stick to them. Read one comprehension passage in each language every day. Practice vocabulary from word lists and work on grammar rules. English and Hindi are the most common choices, but if you are stronger in a regional language, use that as your second language — familiarity matters more than popularity.
5. Take Full-Length Mock Tests
From February 2027 onwards, start taking full-length CBT mock tests under timed conditions. You have 180 minutes for 160 questions — about 67 seconds per question. Practice the strategy of deciding in the first 10 seconds whether to attempt, skip, or mark for review. Most toppers attempt all 160 questions but skip the ones they are not sure about to avoid negative marking.
6. Solve Previous Year NCET Papers
NCET has been conducted since 2023. You have 4 years of past papers (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026) to work through. Previous year papers show you the exact question style, difficulty distribution across sections, and common repeat topics. Solve them under timed conditions and analyse your weak sections.
7. Select Domain Subjects Strategically
Pick 3 domain subjects that match your Class 12 background and the ITEP stream you want. Do not pick a domain subject you have not studied in Class 12 just because the questions "seem easier" on a first look — your 5 years of NCERT familiarity in your actual subjects is a major advantage. Mismatched domain choices are one of the most common preparation mistakes.

FAQs on NCET 2027
Ques. What is NCET and what is its full form?
Ans. NCET stands for National Common Entrance Test. NTA conducts it every year on behalf of NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education). It is the mandatory entrance exam for admission to the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) at central universities, IITs, NITs, Regional Institutes of Education, and other participating institutions across India.
Ques. When will NCET 2027 notification be released?
Ans. As of October 2026, no official NCET 2027 notification date has been announced. Based on the 2026 cycle, the notification is expected in the second week of February 2027 at exams.nta.ac.in/NCET. In 2026, the notification was released on February 12, 2026. Keep checking the official website for updates.
Ques. What is the NCET 2027 exam date?
Ans. NCET 2027 has not announced its exam date yet. Based on the pattern from previous years, the exam is expected in the third or fourth week of April 2027. In 2026 it was held on April 17 and 18. The official date will be confirmed in the 2027 notification.
Ques. What is the eligibility for NCET 2027?
Ans. You must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board or be appearing in Class 12 in 2027. There is no upper age limit for NCET registration. You must be an Indian national. Your Class 12 subjects should match the ITEP course you apply for — for example, Science subjects for B.Sc. B.Ed. and Commerce subjects for B.Com. B.Ed.
Ques. How many seats are available through NCET 2027?
Ans. The official NCET 2027 seat count will be released with the notification. In 2026, there were 16,950 ITEP seats across 223 participating institutions, including central universities, state universities, IITs, NITs, and Regional Institutes of Education. The 2027 seat count may increase as more institutions join.
Ques. What is the NCET exam pattern 2027?
Ans. NCET 2027 is a 3-hour CBT exam with 181 questions of which 160 are to be attempted. The exam has 7 sections: Language 1, Language 2, Teaching Aptitude, General Test, and 3 Domain Subjects of your choice from 26 options. Total marks are 640. Correct answer: +4 marks; wrong answer: −1 mark. No marks are deducted for unattempted questions.
Ques. Is there negative marking in NCET 2027?
Ans. Yes, NCET has negative marking. You get +4 marks for a correct answer and lose 1 mark for a wrong answer. Questions you skip carry no penalty. Since each wrong answer undoes one-fourth of a correct answer, you should avoid random guessing. Skip only if you have no idea — if you can eliminate even one option, attempting the question is worth it.
Ques. Does NTA conduct counselling for NCET?
Ans. No. NTA conducts only the exam and declares the result. Each participating institution runs its own admission process after the result. You must apply separately to every institution you wish to join. Most central universities use the Samarth portal (alldunivcuet.samarth.edu.in), while IITs, NITs, and some state universities have their own portals.
Ques. What is the NCET 2027 application fee?
Ans. The official NCET 2027 fee has not been announced yet. Based on the 2026 structure, expected fees are: ₹1,200 for General/UR, ₹1,000 for OBC-NCL/EWS, and ₹650 for SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender candidates. The fee is non-refundable and payable online only.
Ques. What are the best books to prepare for NCET 2027?
Ans. For domain subjects, Class 12 NCERT textbooks are your primary resource — all questions come from NCERT. For Teaching Aptitude, use CTET Paper 1 books on child development and pedagogy. For the General Test, standard quantitative aptitude and reasoning books work well. Solve previous year NCET papers (2023 to 2026) to understand the pattern and difficulty level before the exam.
Ques. What is ITEP and how is it different from a regular B.Ed.?
Ans. ITEP is the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme introduced by NCTE. It combines a Bachelor’s degree (in Science, Arts, or Commerce) with a B.Ed. into a single 4-year programme. The traditional route — 3-year graduation plus 2-year B.Ed. — takes 5 years. ITEP saves you one year and provides an integrated teacher-training experience. Graduates are directly eligible to appear in CTET and state TET exams.
Ques. Can I apply for NCET 2027 if I am appearing in Class 12 in 2027?
Ans. Yes, candidates appearing in Class 12 board exams in 2027 are eligible to apply for NCET 2027. However, your final admission will be confirmed only after you pass Class 12 with the required minimum percentage. If you do not pass or do not meet the percentage criteria, your admission will be cancelled even if you qualified in NCET.

Your score of 259/640 is a highly competitive mark for the SC category, as the expected closing cutoff for the B.Sc (Agriculture) + B.Ed program at BHU ranges between 225 and 255 marks. It is much more than just a qualifying score; you have a strong chance and should definitely apply for counseling.
Preparing for NCET using quality sample papers is beneficial as they help understand exam patterns, question types, and time management. However, relying solely on them may not be enough. Complementing sample papers with NCET syllabus study, conceptual clarity, and regular revision ensures thorough preparation and higher chances of success.
