The TMISAT 2027 application form is filled online on the TMI portal in five steps.

TMISAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria (Expected)

TMISAT 2027 requires 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12 and 50% in English. Candidates must be unmarried and born on or after August 1, 2006. TMI has kept these conditions stable across recent cycles.

TMISAT 2027 Age Limit

  • For the 2026 batch, male candidates had to be born on or after August 1, 2005.
  • In the same way, for TMISAT 2027, the age limit is born on or after August 1, 2006.
  • Female candidates get a two year age relaxation, in line with Government of India guidelines.

TMISAT 2027 Academic Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination.
  • Candidates need at least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together.

TMISAT Medical Test 2026

The following medical fitness criteria are to be examined for selection of the candidates. All these tests will be done by a registered medical practitioner recommended by the TMISAT.

Medical Fitness Criteria
Constitution There should be no evidence of a weak constitution by way of imperfect development of muscles or serious malformation. Minimum height should be 157 centimetres with co-related weight and proportionate chest with a minimum 5 centimetre expansion.
Skeletal System There should be no disease or impairment of functions of bones or joints. The candidate should also be free from any contraction or deformity of the chest or any joint. There should also not be any abnormal curvatures of the spine, deformity of legs and feet like bow legs, knock knee, flat feet. Neither should there be any instance of deformity of upper limbs, malformation of the head, deformity from fractures or depression of the skull. Healed fractures with a pin inside will also be a disqualification.
Ear, Nose, Throat
  • There should be no impaired hearing, discharge from or disease of either ear, unhealed perforation of the tympanic membrane or signs of acute or chronic suppurative otitis media or evidence of radical or modified radical mastoid operation and no congenital malfunction of the ear. Unaided average threshold is to be higher than 40 db in both ears at 500,1000,2000, and 3000 Hz and / or functional speech discrimination less than 90% at 55 db in both ears is required. A candidate should be able to hear a whisper at a distance of 5 meters on each side without using hearing aids.
  • Candidates should not be afflicted with any disease of the bones and cartilage of the nose, nasal polypus or disease of the nasopharynx or accessory sinuses.
  • There should not be any loss or decay of teeth to such an extent as to interfere with efficient mastication. There should also not be any evidence of any disease of the throat, palate, tonsils or gums or any disease or injury affecting the normal function of either temporomandibular joint. Individuals with severe pyorrhoea will also be rejected.
Speech There should be no speech impediment orimpairment like excessive stammering or a pronounced lisp.
Lymphatic System All candidates must have a normally functioning glandular system without signs of tubercular enlargement or abnormality due to other diseases in the neck or other parts of the body.
Cardiovascular System There should be no instance of cardiac or vascular disease. Electrocardiogram should be within normal limits. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure must not exceed 140 and 90 mm of Hg, respectively.
Respiratory System There should be no evidence of chronic or upper respiratory disease, tuberculosis or history of this disease. X-ray of the chest should be normal.
Digestive System There should be no evidence of any disease of the digestive system and the liver and spleen should not be palpable. There should be no abdominal tenderness on palpation.
Genitourinary System The kidneys should not be palpable, enlarged or diseased. Candidates with alburminuria, glycosurea or blood (R.B.C) in urine will not be accepted. There should be no hernia or tendency thereto. Those who have been operated for hernia may be declared fit provided:
  • one year has elapsed after the operation (documentary proof required);
  • general tone of abdominal muscles is good; and
  • there has been no recurrence of hernia or complications rising from the surgery.
There should be no hydrocele, varicocele, spermatocele or any other abnormality of genital organs. There should not be any incidence of fistula and/or anal fissure, hemorrhoids (piles) or rectal polyps. There should be no active latent or congenital venereal disease. Candidates with undescended testes retained in the inguinal canal or at the extra-abdominal ring will not be accepted.
Skin There should be no skin disease except that of a temporary or trivial nature. Scars, which by their extent or position are likely to cause disability, are also unacceptable.
Nervous System There should be no history or evidence of mental disease of the candidate or in his family.
  • A candidate having a history of fits, incontinence of urine or enuresis will not be accepted.
  • Mental or nervous irritability, abnormality of gait, defective functions of cranial nerves, non-coordination, motor or sensory dysfunction will be cause for disqualification.
Eyesight
  • Candidates must not have any degree of squint or any morbid condition of eyes or of the eyelids that is liable to aggravate or recur. Neither should they exhibit symptoms of pressure oftrachome and iris complications or sequela. Candidates must possess good binocular vision (fusion faculty and full field of vision in both eyes). Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all direction and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation.
  • Distance vision unaided 0.5 (6/12) in each eye or 0.67 (6/9) in better eye and 0.33 (6/18) in other eye. Colour blindness is not permitted
  • Normal colour vision is to be tested by Ishiara test chart. Candidates may also be disqualified by reason of any other deficiency that in the opinion of the examining doctors will interfere with or compromise the individual's ability to properly function as an officer in the merchant navy.
Other Tests In addition, at the time of the medical examination or subsequently, at any time during the program, candidates may be asked to undertake Drugs and/or HIV tests.

The TMISAT 2027 exam runs for two hours online. A 30 minute personality test and 90 minutes paper. TMI has announced no change for 2027, so the 2026 structure is expected to continue.

TMI does not release a public admit card for TMISAT 2027. Shortlisted candidates receive the test link and login details directly from the institute.

A strong written score alone does not secure a seat. The interview and the medical test carry equal weight in the final selection.

TMISAT 2027 Stage 1: Online Test

TMISAT 2027 Stage 2: Personal Interview

A panel of educators and maritime professionals interviews the shortlisted candidates. The panel assesses communication skills, leadership potential and clarity of thought.

TMISAT 2027 Stage 3: Medical Examination

Medical practitioners appointed by TMI examine every selected candidate. TMI publishes the list of practitioners approved by the Directorate General of Shipping.

  • Vision, hearing and colour perception are checked at the medical examination.
  • The standards follow the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules.
  • Candidates who fail the medical examination are not admitted, regardless of test performance.

Ques. Does the IMUCET rank count in the TMISAT 2027 merit list?

Ans. No. The IMUCET rank is used to shortlist candidates for the test. The merit list uses PCM marks, the TMISAT score and the interview.

TMISAT 2027 Admission Fees and Expenses

The first-year fees for the 2026 B.Tech Marine Engineering batch came to ₹5,46,000, with another ₹1,21,993 in student services expenses. TMI publishes the 2027 figures in January.

  • TMI estimated the full four year programme at about ₹26.97 lakh for the 2026 intake.
  • Female students get a 50% waiver on the tuition fee every semester.
  • A DGS cess of 1% applies on total fees and expenses.
  • The caution deposit is refunded at the end of the programme, less ₹1,000 towards membership.
  • A late fee of 18% per annum applies to payments made after the due date.
  • IMU exam fees are charged per semester and paid directly on the IMU portal.
  • TMI arranges medical insurance at ₹1,725 per student per year. The cover includes the following.
  • The policy pays ₹5,00,000 on accidental death of the student.

TMISAT 2027 Result and Merit List (Expected)

TMI does not release a scorecard or percentile for TMISAT 2027. The institute prepares a merit list and contacts selected candidates with admission offers.

The TMISAT 2027 merit list is expected to be based on three inputs.

  • Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are the first input.
  • Performance in the TMISAT 2027 online test is the second input.
  • Performance in the personal interview is the third input.

The IMUCET rank is used for shortlisting and does not carry into the final merit list. Candidates on the merit list must pass the medical examination before the seat is confirmed.

TMI reports that 100% of eligible cadets from the 2024 batch were placed. This covers B.Tech Marine Engineering, B.Sc Nautical Science and the Electro Technical Officer course. Cadets join shipping companies as trainees on board.

TMISAT Scores and Admission Mails: What Candidates Are Reporting on Reddit

On June 17, 2026, a candidate on Reddit reported a two-week TMI timeline. The TMISAT test was on June 3, the interview on June 11 and the provisional admission mail on June 17.

A May post came from a candidate with 83 percent PCM and 130 of 200 in TMISAT. It asked whether an IMUCET rank under 2,000 is needed, and replies said a four-digit rank is accepted.
