IGNOU Admission 2021: Programme Delivery for Foreign Students
This University's instructional methodology differs from that of traditional universities. The Open University system is more learner-centered, with the learner playing an active role in the pedagogical (teaching and learning) process. As needed, the majority of the instructions are delivered via distance education. The University employs a multimedia approach to instruction, which includes the following elements:
Self Instructional Printed Material
The printed study material (written in self-instructional style) for both theory and practical components of the programmes is provided to learners in the form of a single print book and/or e-book, comprising blocks and units, or as separate printed blocks for each course (on an average 1 block per credit). A booklet-style block typically consists of 3 to 5 units.
Audio-Visual Material Aids
The learning package includes audio and video programmes created by the University to help learners better understand and clarify the course material provided to them. A video programme is typically 25-30 minutes long.
The video content is available on IGNOU eGyankosh @egyankosh.ac.in, the University's digital learning repository.
The video programmes can also be seen on the National Network of Gyan Darshan and Swayamprabha channels. All Gyan Vani stations broadcast curriculum-based audio programmes according to a predetermined schedule. In addition, the audio programmes are broadcast on a few All India Radio stations. Learners can confirm the programme dates with their study centres. The information is also available on the university's website.
Regular Counselling Sessions
Normally, counselling sessions are scheduled by the Study Centres/OSCs. These are typically held outside of the regular working hours of the host institutions where the study centres are located. However, if the number of students enrolled in a programme is small, no face-to-face counselling will be provided. In such cases, the university must provide learners with Web-Enabled Academic Support.
Live teleconferencing sessions are conducted via satellite through interactive Gyan Darshan Channel as well as simultaneously webcast at ( https://ignouonline.ac.in/) and via Facebook Live sessions.
Learning Through Practicals & Project Work
Depending on the learning requirements, some programmes include a practical/project component as well. The Study Centres provide a schedule for the practical sessions, which are held at designated institutions. Participation in practical sessions is required. Along with the study material, the learner receives a comprehensive project guide in the form of a booklet for project work.
