IIT Kanpur and NMCG Unite for the Eighth India Water Impact Summit at Ambedkar International Centre

New Delhi: IIT Kanpur Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga), in partnership with the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), has organized the eighth India Water Impact Summit, a three-day event held at the Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.

The summit commenced with the inauguration by Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, and Igor Papič, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation from Slovenia. Hosted under the theme 'Development vis-à-vis land, water, and rivers,' the India Water Impact Summit orchestrated diverse events, aiming to bring experts, government officials, and stakeholders to collectively tackle the dynamic challenges and opportunities prevalent in India's water sector.

During the summit's second day, India and Slovenia formalized an agreement concerning space science technology and satellite utilization for river basin management. The pact, inked by Vinod Tare, the founding head of cGanga IIT Kanpur, and Tomaž Rodič, the director of the Slovenian Centre of Excellence for Space Sciences and Technologies, underscores collaboration in these domains. 

Furthermore, the second day of the discussion was based on subjects like agricultural waste management, lifestyle and economics, and the application of digital tools for enhancing river monitoring efficiency. Read More: Agriculture Courses

The Slovenian Minister for Global Cooperation, in the opening session, Nitin Gadkari, underscored initiatives in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh aimed at utilizing crop residues to mitigate pollution in Delhi. Igor Papič stressed the importance of international collaboration to tackle water security and environmental preservation.

During the summit's third day, presentations covered various novel initiatives, including a groundbreaking approach to underwater networks known as the 'Internet of Underwater Things.’

S Ganesh, the officiating director of IIT Kanpur faculty, expressed that cGanga at IIT Kanpur has been actively pursuing initiatives to promote responsible water management and conservation within the framework of river science and basin management objectives. 

The institute's endeavors showcase a steadfast commitment to environmental protection. The agreement with Slovenia marks a significant milestone, and the success of the summit reflects collective efforts in advancing water management and environmental conservation, Ganesh said. 

Vinod Tare remarked that the 8th India Water Impact Summit has not only fostered substantial partnerships but has also laid the foundation for innovative solutions.
