All in all the college provides the ultimate experience of treading your path of living. It teaches us to strike the perfect balance between work and play, and plays a crucial role in personality development, talking to different people every day, getting to know them better, it is the perfect stepping stone into reality
Course Curriculum Overview
The course covers many topics related to computer science and applications along with other basic courses like mathematics, electronics. In each semester, we have two class tests each of 30 marks (the average of the two is taken as the final marks) and an exam is also held which is on 100 marks. The marks out of 100 are scaled to 70, and that is added to the average out of 30 to get the final marks in that subject. Based on the marks you get allotted grades which gets added to the GPA
Placement Experience
The main plus point of our department is the job opportunities statistics. With an average package of 14 lpa, jadavpur University it department stands at one of the best performing departments in the placement scene. They do provide internship opportunities for 3rd year students in top companies like Microsoft, Samsung, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Salesforce. I had done my 2 month internship from Samsung where I received a stipend of 50k rupees per month.
College Events
There are many cultural events in our college, the most prominent one being Sanskriti, which is one of the largest and longest running college fests in the country. Also we have a tech fest named Srijan, which attracts crowds with coding, robotics, gaming and miscallaneous events and also standup comedians like Rahul Subramanian, Vaibhav Sethia performing.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is quite reasonable compared to the other colleges. With 30k rupees per annum it is one of the most reasonable fees structures around, although the other departments are even more cheap with around 1k per annum fees
Fees and Financial Aid
They do offer what is called a students freeship to the academically backward students, or specially disabled students. Scholarships provided are a bit rare, although one can get them by participating in events like the well known Hult Prize.
Campus Life
The labs are very impressive and consists of around 50+ PCs in each and every lab. All of them have windows/fedora dual boot and have an extremely solid performance PCs. There is a common room where one can play carrom, table tennis, cards, chess and the hostel has facilities for other sports like cricket, football, badminton, volleyball. Also the university has a gym as well.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni bonding is extremely beneficial for any student. Getting to know about different aspects and also getting references from your seniors is so necessary as well . In every 2 years, our department hosts a reunion where passouts from different years gather and share the knowledge of their experiences to us current students, give inputs on what is to come in life and how to handle them.
Admission
For admission in engineering streams, I had to take the West Bengal Joint Entrance examination (WBJEE). Now I secured 355th rank (overall in West Bengal) and got admission in the IT department of Jadavpur University
Faculty
The experienced faculty are really efficient and helpful, however the relatively recent ones are not up to the standard which is expected of them. The faculty does provide help, by giving us topics for research projects/internships and other important contacts namely of professors of other universities.
