Entrance Preview

I prepared for the Tamil Nadu Engineering entrance examination along with my +2 board exams to get admission into Anna University and other top allied Engineering colleges. However, the entrance examination was cancelled at the last moment thereby making it very hard for the students to get into a decent college as the competition was huge. I got the required cut off and I had couple of colleges in mind and Meenakshi was one amongst them.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course has 8 semesters which is spread for a duration of 4 years. The first year was non semester pattern and also had common subjects like Maths, English, Physics, Chemistry. From the next year, subjects core to IT field such as Digital Electronics, Microprocessors, Computer Architecture, Object oriented programming, Computer networks, Operating systems, Database management systems are introduced later in the course work. Corresponding Practical courses was also a part of the curriculum.

Internships Opportunities

My College offers internship program to final year students. The companies generally conduct an entrance test to qualify students and an average of 5 students per class usually gets selected for internship in companies. The general stipend offered is around 4000 Rs.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placements are good in my college. Not many companies recruit but 75% of the students are placed in the companies that comes for recruitment. Major recruiters are TCS , Tech Mahindra, UST global, HCL, Renault Nissan, Dell. Majority of the students are placed in TCS with a package of 2.75 lacs p.a as an Associate System Engineer. Other companies offer the same compensation. Dell offers 4 lacs.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Any Engineering course is expensive. My college's fee is nominal when compared to other colleges in Chennai. My college doesn't compel on mess charges, transportation services and other stationary charges whereas other colleges does. The annual fee is 65,000 INR as on 2011.

Alumni/Alumna

There is an Alumni meet every year and very little people attend the event due to geographical constraints. But there are unofficial whatsapp and facebook groups and alumni stays in touch with each other.

Exam Structure

Apart from the semester that comes once in every six months, my college conducts regular unit tests and mid semester exams to validate the performance of the students. The exams play a major role in the internal score of the student.

Faculty

2.5

The faculty of my college was like the faculty of any affiliated college in Chennai. They are moderate. They learn what is listed in the syllabus and write it down on the board. They cannot think or teach in an industry oriented or student understandable format. But, they certainly help the students score well in University examination.

The curriculum is relevant and provides a good balance of theoretical knowledge and practical learning. It prepares students for real-world applications, but more industry projects, practical sessions, and updated teaching methods would help. Exams are generally well-spaced and moderately difficult.

Placements are generally decent, with students becoming eligible from the final year. Several companies visit for recruitment, offering roles in technical and non-technical fields. Packages vary by company, and placement opportunities depend on skills and performance. Many students secure jobs, while others pursue higher studies or competitive exams.
