Hrishikesh Shinde's Review On Sardar Patel College Of Engineering - [SPCE], Mumbai

I had to appear for GATE 2014. I scored 267 in it. As SPCE is one of the best colleges in Mumbai, it wasn't a difficult choice to make.

Course curriculum was on par with the level of difficulties. Some of the subjects offered were -Construction management and organisation. Safety engineering.Project planning and scheduling.Project monitoring etc.

Though there are various opportunities for bachelor's course, the internship offers for master's courses are in scarcity. Only one company came to offer internship this year. The company did not offer any sort of stipend. Instead, it put forth an offer to give full time job offers at the end of 1 year internship to students that were selected.

Placement records are pretty strong for B.tech civil engineering and M.tech structural engineering. Compared to that, M.tech Construction management has a weaker placement records. Nonetheless, the few companies that came to hire M.tech students were AFCONS - package approx 6lakhs p.a, L&T infra - package approx 5.5 lakhs p.a, Aker solutions - package approx 5 lakhs p.a.

Various events are celebrated in the college throughout the year. There is a cultural fest called SPACE which is one of the best in Mumbai. Then there are various technical fests that are celebrated in the college as well.As the campus is big enough, the events are held throughout the area with tremendous amount of participation in variety of events.People from various colleges flock here to participate in different events and showcase their unique talents.

Fees structure is slightly on the expensive side but keeping in mind the facilities offered, it is quite fair.Our course fees were round about 82000 per year in total.(This includes AC classrooms, AC computer labs etc.

As a masters student and being GATE qualified, we get Post Graduate stipend of Rs.8000 per month from AICTE. Though this stipend is not deposited on monthly basis, we do get the total amount once in two or three months.Under Graduate students do get scholarships from govt. based on their castes.

Senior for my course were very friendly and they actually helped us to tackle the exams effectively. They also gave their shared their precious experiences about project work.

Exam structure is less complicated and easy to cope up with. There are two unit tests in each semester followed by semester ending main exam. The students who get K.Ts are given asked to reappear within the next few days of results. Labs are well-equipped and practicals are nicely scheduled to avoid overburdening of students. Students actually enjoy attending labs.

Faculty is very cooperative and always willing to help in anything related to the course. Recently, the college has obtained platinum standard for its civil department.The faculty is richly experienced and has numerous publications published in various journals under their name.
