Anonymous's Review On Christ University, Bangalore

After deciding to pursue an honours in English, I decided to go and look at all good colleges that offered this course. I visited Loyola College Chennai, IIT Madras and Christ University Bangalore. I visited each campus and spoke at length to the faculty of the English Department in all the colleges. I was most satisfied with the English faculty at Christ, they gave a very comprehensive idea of what the course was going to entail, what opportunities it was going to open up for me and what kind of career I could build with said degree. I liked Christ University's campus, it's student culture, it's multidisciplinary environment, it's ethos and obviously the fact that it was in a great city like Bangalore. I realized that I would get the maximum exposure at Christ and that was enough to solidify my decision.

BA English Honours at Christ has one of the most interdisciplinary course designs out there. We covered Literature, Social Science, Psychology, Pedagogy, Film Studies and Linguistics all distributed across 6 semesters. A few of my friends who had chosen to do the same course elsewhere were very surprised at the content that was offered in Christ and not in their college. Our course not only covered a wide array of subjects but also made sure that it dedicated enough attention and time so as to provide a deep engagement with the subject. The faculty is one of the best in the country in my opinion. Miss Renu Elizabeth Abraham for Literary Theory, Criticism and Narrative studies and Dr. Dishari Chattaraj for Linguistics and Pedagogy were particularly exceptional.

Placements for the business and commerce programs ar fantastic and the salaries on offer go up every year. Most students from the social sciences department however wish to do further studies although even they get opportunities to sit for interviews.

Christ University is known for it's fests and extracurricular activities. There is at least one fest every semester and each department conducts different fests all year round. Fests are inter-departmental, inter-deanery, inter-campus and even inter-collegiate. Faculty helps oversee fest operations but all organization and execution is completely run by students. The business department, the psychology department, the media department and the English department hold some of the biggest fests in Bangalore, attracting talent from all over the country.

The library is massive, the classrooms are spacious and the auditorium is fantastic. There are 4 different eateries on campus including a Cafe Coffee Day. There's WiFi access to all students and staff but the only caveat is that the Bannerghatta Road Campus doesn't have enough space and facilities for sports.

I stayed in the hostel for the first 2 years of my degree. The bathrooms are clean and there is wifi, water and electricity 24x7. The main cafeteria is open for hostellers at night. There is a biometric attendance policy for hostellers and they have to check in twice every day, once in the morning before classes and once at night at 9 pm. Hostellers can apply for leave/night-outs by getting permission from their guardian and then approving it from the Warden.
