Amity University Noida, Masters of English

Remarks

I was planning to apply for designing in NIFT but after some contemplation, I dropped designing and opted for English literature. No, I didn't avail any quota for admission. There are mainly two categories to get admission, sponsored and non sponsored. The criteria for both is as follows: Non-Sponsored category- 70% in English in 10+2, 50% in BA (H) English/ 50% in English in Graduation from any other program. Sponsored category- 60% in English in 10+2, 50% in BA (H) English/ 50% in English in Graduation from any other program. The fees will vary according to the category. There will be an entrance exam based on the understanding of English, and it will be followed by a personal interview where the questions regarding your knowledge on English literature will be asked. Your selection will depend on this. The volunteers help the admission process to go smoothly as everything's done digitally through Amity's website. There is also an orientation program which is held for students

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I chose this program because of my interest in the given subject. There were 71 students in my class, but the classes were big enough to accommodate all easily. The teachers were also sufficient not only for usual classes but also to fill in for extra classes. The teaching method was mainly based on the open discussion between student and teacher regarding the topic. They would describe the topic in first few classes and then we have open discussion on certain aspects of it. Most of the teachers were either Ph.D holders or had cleared NET. Some had Masters and B.ed along with that. They were all qualified enough in their fields. However, there were one or two teachers who were punctual. We had 4 semesters and one term exam in each semester. The Marks were given in the form of sgpa as well as class tests and seminars were also held every semester for internal assessments. Exams are not that difficult to pass.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Some companies did offer various internships in different fields and jobs, for ex. Qin1 recently offered an internship with a stipend of 6000 for the role of teacher. However, the stipend might vary according to the hours invested in the job every day.

Placement Experience

2.5

Students become eligible for campus placements from the beginning of the 4th semester. I didn't participate in placements much as I had other plans, so I am not aware of it properly. I am planning to pursue higher studies.

Fees and Financial Aid

During the first sem I had to pay approx 60,000 and for the last sem, I paid 63,500, which I believe is a moderate hike. It cost me around 2,30,000 to 2,50,000 for two years, given that I didn't use the hostel facility. I got an internship through the campus in an online teaching platform who were paying me 6,000 monthly, for 1hr 20 mins per day. The scholarships were for those students who did exceptionally well in there, however, I do not have any personal experience of the benefits.

Campus Life

5

Every year Amity holds a youth fest usually in March, where students from various colleges come together and participate in different competitions. Other than that there are in numerous events and competitions held almost everyday which include a variety of subjects and fields. There are university clubs and department clubs for students which are open for everyone in the college to participate in. All kinds of sports are played there and different teams participate in various competitions on various levels. The clubs are very welcoming and popular in the uni. You can also participate in various other clubs and activities such as dance, poetry, cooking, acting, etc. There are clubs for various fields such as business management, poetry clubs, finance-related clubs, etc. All the departmental clubs are run by the students themselves and there is no interference by any faculty. Enough support is given by the faculty and staff during the management of events and meetings.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I'm from humanities background so the course is quite relevant for me. The course is quite outdated however it's the same for most of the universities. the curriculum should be aligned with the competitive exams and the teaching methods should be more inclusive about the competitive exams so that the student can prepare well not only for the present course but also further upcoming exams.
