Remarks
I applied and got selected to many private universities as my JEE rank wasn't too high and I couldn't get into a gov. college of my choice with my rank. I chose VIT because it stood out from the rest, because of its ranking and the opportunities it offers and not because other colleges were bad or had a lot of flaws. The colleges and the branch which I got are mentioned below: KIIT, Bhubaneshwar - BTech CSE, SRM University - Btech CSE, PDPU, Gandhinagar - Btech CSE, Nirma University, Ahmedabad - Btech CSE. The counselling procedure for getting admission to VIT for the year 2020 was a bit different due to the pandemic. VIT has its own national-level entrance exam VITEEE but it could not be conducted because of the covid-19 pandemic. So the admission was done on the VIT portal based on our JEE Main-Jan 2020 and XII board SCORES. I got 97.34 percentile in JEE Main-Jan2020 and 89% in the CBSE XII board. This fetched me a 6762 AIR in VIT counselling. I got admitted to BTech ECE in the Fee ctg-1.
Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to go for CSE, but couldn't get it to cause my rank wasn't enough. The next best option was ECE. Overall there are 30,000 and approximately 2000 teachers. So the average student ratio would be around 15:1 but it's not the actual scenario It's the same thing for all colleges. Some teachers are brilliant, some have knowledge but it doesn't reach us. VIT conducts 3 exams in each semester- CAT1, CAT2 and FAT. In the COVID times, the time for one semester is around 5 months and the 3 exams are conducted with almost equal intervals between them.
Internships Opportunities
VIT suggests you undergo an internship after the third semester. However, VIT doesn't have a seperate cell for internships. They do send mails from different companies to recruit interested students as interns.
Placement Experience
Almost 400-500 companies visit VIT for placement almost every year. The average package is somewhere around 6 LPA. The highest package is 44 LPA (MICROSOFT) to 7 students. VIT maintains an excellent track record when it comes to. Placement and almost 100% of the students applying for placement get placed. I am still unsure about the future plans. I could either do a start-up or go abroad for higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure consists of 5 categories. 1 to 5. The lowest fees (without scholarship) is the category 1 fees which are 198000 INR/semester. The highest is around 500K INR. The only scholarship that I know is the one given to the TOP RANK SCORERS. If you belong to a lower-middle-class family, I'd advise you not to join VIT, as it might be a burden, financially.
Campus Life
VIT's cultural fest - RIVIERA is the 5th BEST in INDIA. The vibes of the fest are amazing. Although I being in the 2020 BATCH, haven't witnessed one, but it's a well-known fact that RIVIERA is one of the best. The next is the tech-fest - GRAVITAS. It's an extraordinary plethora of events and exhibitions and workshops. The VIT library is huge. It's a 3-storey building and is filled with books on different fields. The sports facility is matchless, atleast for a private institution. The college also has NCC. The best part about VIT I think, is its clubs and chapter. There are around 150 different clubs and chapters, technical and cultural. Students are free to create their own clubs if they feel that there isn't one like theirs already. Some noteworthy technical clubs and chapters are DSC, IEEE, ISTE, CODECHEF and ROBOTICS.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels can be divided on the basis of no beds and AC/NON-AC. For boys, there are only apartment type hostels. I dont know much about the ladies hostel. The mess food is a lot better than other colleges. You won't ever feel disgusted by it. There is a mess council that decides upon the menu and conducts a review meeting every month. The hostel room registration starts once you reach campus.
