Entrance Preview

Well, obviously Amity University was not my first choice. However looking back, I feel that it was one of the good decisions I made back then. I had scored 70% in the 10th and 65% on the 12th. It's just that I had screwed my entrance exams as I wanted to study engineering abroad. Yeah, like others I too wrote AIEEE, IIT JEE. Somehow I managed to qualified the AIEEE with AIR-48900. Since I belong to Uttar Pradesh(19 crores population) it was not a piece of cake to get an admission in some Top colleges(IITs, NITs). I had got Amity through counseling conducted by the AIEEE board and also it is near to my living place. I got Mechanical Stream which I wanted to take too. I have not gone through the interview as I already had qualified the AIEEE. They completed all formalities in no time. Yes, Amity is an easy place to get admission into but in no way is it easy to survive: It's not casual at all ( At least in B.Tech and MBA).

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The Curriculum is well defined and strict attendance of 75% per subject and regular classes justify the fees that you pay. If your attendance is even short by 0.5%, they will start by deducting your internal marks and can even fail you if you don't improve. Also, a monthly report of each student's attendance is updated on the college internet which can be accessed by parents. Many people tend to think that this is just a party college. Classes run from 9:15 am to 5-6 pm ( Sometimes this gets irritating). The foreign language course has been integrated into the curriculum. The students have a choice to select one of the foreign languages from French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese and Russian. It is mandatory for each student to select any one foreign language of his/her choice as part of the course.

Internships Opportunities

I had really hard time getting an internship as a Mechanical Engg. The student in reputed PSUs like BHEL, BEL, HAL, NTPC, etc. and Private Companie's like Audi, Tata Motors, Hyundai, Hero India, Ashok Leylands, BMW, Mercedes, etc. I literally did not get even a little reference or support from College and PSU never visits private colleges though. They just provided the signed pdf "Internship Letter". Nowadays it's not easy even to get an internship if you are a Mechanical Student. Yeah, it does require a reference or what we call in Common language "The Source" to get an internship in PSU's. I have not been provided with any Stipend during internship In fact I paid Rs.500/ weeks (Fees) at DLW, Varanasi Training Centre For Internship. Of course, getting in PSU's as intern provides you Practical knowledge of what you studied as a theory in the classroom.

Placement Experience

Amity assures placement in professional fields (if you meet their eligibility). However, "Good" placements are what Amity should focus on. Yes, I agree that the ROI is less and the fees could be reduced by at least 35-40%, But if you work hard and develop some skills, you can easily land a placement. They have made a specialized group(cell) "ATPC" which assists students to get placed in the number of organizations. ( I was eligible but don't like to work in private organizations, Left Placement). The average B.Tech package is around 3.5 Lacs and the Average MBA package is around 5 Lacs ( which has huge potential to improve if the administration works on it). It's all up to you at the end of the day. Here's I am sharing names of companies that offered placements to Amity Students during 2014-2015.EIS ELECTRONICS PVT LTD(1.5LAKH/ANNUM),XINOE(1.2LAKH/ANNUM),PIAGGIO VEHICLES(2.3LAKH/ANNUM),VIDEOCON(3.1LAKH/ANNUM),HONDA(2.8LAKH/ANNUM) MOTORS,WIPRO(3.2LAKH/ANNUM),ASKME.COM(3.0LAKH/ANNUM),BOEING(3.2LAKH/ANNUM),VISION BEYOND(2.3LAKH/ANNUM),CACTUS(2.4LAKH/ANNUM),PRACTO(1.9LAKH/ANNUM),PAHARPUR COOLING TOWERS(2.9LAKH/ANNUM),HCL(1.6LAKH/ANNUM),TCS(2.5LAKH/ANNUM),SOPRA GROUP(1.7LAKH/ANNUM),IGATE(2.3LAKH/ANNUM),ZYNCUS(1.5LAKH/ANNUM),VIRTUSA(2.1LAKH/ANNUM) .etc and many small organizations. If you work hard you will get placed earlier than the rest and ATPC put in full effort to get all students to get placed. You also become eligible for a govt job after studying from Amity.

Fees and Financial Aid

At Amity, the endeavor is always to promote talent by providing opportunities for intellectual empowerment. As part of an ongoing initiative of recognizing talent, Amity University organizes "Scholarship Award Function", spreads over two days in a year. Being an average student I have not availed any scholarships but had few of my friends who got a scholarship.

Alumni/Alumna

Sharing one of the alumni experience I interacted with. They say they have found Amity to be a milestone in professional and personal life. The intensity and breadth of the program prepare you for high-pressure situations, complex problem solving and work-life balancing that you can use in your approach to all challenges in your working life. As an engineer, the MBA Program taught me to see the non-technical end of the business. This is extremely helpful in dealing with non-technical professionals I found some of the lecturers to be the most interesting and inspiring people I've met. The lecturers were not only as learned and experienced as one would expect from Amity, but knew the best way to engage us and lead us toward honing our own business instincts and capacity for complexity and ambiguity. They personally believe that their qualification will be a mark in the long run whereby everything will be judged on the basis of whether it came before or after the Amity. Studying at Amity has truly been a remarkable and enriching experience for them since it has been one of the best places that they have trained at. Amity definitely has a great learning environment for all aspiring managers. They are indeed grateful to all theirs' teachers & faculty members for their sincere efforts towards imparting valuable knowledge and always inspiring us to succeed. They also had the opportunity to work along with some amazing teams there, comprising of many talented fellow students. They feel proud to be an Amitian.

However, after passing out this year.i.e.2015. I have come to the conclusion that it really does not matter how many negative reviews you read or over-advertised commercials you see on television. This university has its ups and downs like every other university.

Placement Experience:

Placements are both on and off-campus based. Placements are usually common for both IT and Non-IT students, Technical or Non-Technical. Students become eligible, in their final years to pursue internships or acquire placements. Usually students from Computer Science and Engineering avail more placement opportunities. The Medical Department have more options of Employability. Companies like HCL, Byju's, Extramarks, IBM and other local companies like Stambh Power Systems, Pieinfocomm and others have arrived. But the placement ratio needs to be increased. Off-Campus Placements are more successful. Highest Package can be 8lpa CTC to average package be 2.5lpa CTC, with profiles of assistance and associates. Atleast 30% students get placed on average. My plans are based on Learning in different ways.
