Insides at IIM Sirmaur

Every IIM has eligibility criteria which involve appearing for the CAT exam. Specifically for IIM Sirmaur, the cutoff for the same was around 90 %ile overall with sectional cutoffs. The case with cutoffs is that it varies every year depending upon the difficulty of the CAT exam, the number of candidates that appeared for the exam and various other factors. To apply for IIM Sirmaur, you don't need to fill out its form explicitly. While filling out the CAT application, tick the IIM Sirmaur box, and you are ready to go. Around August, the application date is the same as the CAT application date. IIM Sirmaur has reserved seats, although I am unaware of those. The admission process needs to be more full of case base oriented. At the same time, it needs to be stricter with the type of students coming to campus for the ease of placement opportunities.

Let's start with the faculty review. All the faculty members are among the best in India in their respective fields. For instance, our Director - Mr P.Y Agnihotri is JBIMS, and IIM Calcutta pass out. Our Marketing head - Mr Karthikeyan Balakumar, is an IIM Trichy and IIM Calcutta pass-out. As far as exams are concerned, they are bound to be tough, and much cannot be revealed. However, some of the exams are really creative and interesting and final exams usually account for lesser marks. The rest of the marks are mostly dependent on in-class activities.

Each year the stipend offered to students varies for internships. However, job roles offered to students usually include market research, data mapping, business development, relationship management, operation management and many other roles along similar lines.

Summer internship starts the moment 1st-month of education is completed. For final placements, students cannot fail more than two exams in the first year to be eligible to sit in placements. Institute offers 100% placements with an average Package revolving around 13 LPA, with companies like ICICI, Deloitte, HDFC, etc hiring numerous students for SIP and final placements every year. The highest Package usually revolves around 25 LPA.

Scholarships are based on merit as well as category basis. Financial Assistance is easily accessible. For instance, student loans. These loans are easier to score for the students going to some well-established students in the country, and IIM Sirmaur is one of them. I am not really aware of the fee hike policy. However, there is a percentage increase in the fees every year.

Our annual inter-college fest is SIERRA which is usually conducted in February. Each student is provided with a budget for books and journals, which each faculty needs to allocate efficiently. Other things also include Harvard Case Studies and authorized simulation for students to have first-hand experience. All classrooms are well equipped with all the basic and updated amenities. IIM Sirmaur is a student-run campus with almost 20 clubs and committees, including Markaizen - the Marketing Club, and Training and Development Cell, to name a few. Sports are also essential, with cricket tournaments, football and volleyball tournaments and other related tournaments happening almost once or twice per month.

IIM Sirmaur conducts its admission process as a part of the CAP round. Nearly 10 IIMS take part in this process, and no GD was conducted. However, the interview was an important aspect of admission. My interview was substantially based on my previous academics and subjects, with the focus shifting from academics to current affairs like the Ukraine-Russia war, etc. Preparations included revision of my undergraduate subjects as well as reading newspapers daily. Staying up to date with current affairs was a key component.
