Remarks

The college management was the right balance of strict and easy. It was a wonderful experience studying in this college. These have been precious three years of my life.

Entrance Preview

The interview process for this College took place in Hotel Hindustan International in Kolkata. It was a hassle free process. I was asked about my interests, a few questions from the syllabus and my marks card was reviewed. Post this I was sent a letter to my address, confirming my admission to this prestigious college.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I chose triple honours combination that included Psychology, English and Journalism. There were lots of field trips, practicals and assignments given to us during the entire course period. Lecturers from other reputable institutions were invited for special classes. International speakers were invited to expand our knowledge about the global scenario.

Internships Opportunities

No. Garden City College, during my time of studying, did not provide any stipend or internship. However, it helped us get internships externally, though there was no stipend involved.

Placement Experience

2

I did not apply for placement, so I do not know about the placement opportunities in the BA stream. However, in Bachelor of Hotel management, a lot of student found placement in top hotels across the country and even abroad. There is a placement cell to help students find jobs after finishing their course.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure during 2004-2007 was reasonable compared to the general fees in college today. It could be paid in installments so it was not really a burden for most parents. There was fine levied on delayed payments. The arts section fees were lesser than courses such as Biotech, BHM, and MBA. However, BA had good facilities like the other courses such as practical labs, spacious classrooms, paraphernalia for psychology tests and so on

Fees and Financial Aid

I got a fees discount because I had scored over 70% in the first year on all my papers. I don't think there is a formal loan or scholarship facility available, at least it was not there during my time of studying. But diligent students are recognized and are awarded in some way or the other.

Campus Life

3.5

There was no dearth of activities on the campus. There was a huge playground, a gigantic yet organized library for study related as well as obby reading. There was greenery everywhere for student to sit , study, chat, and relax. The auditorium held all the important indoor events including movie screenings.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel facility was excellent and we had 2 and four sharing rooms. Every room had a pair of bunk beds and attached bathroom. All rooms had individual table and chair for each border. There was a common room on all floors. Food was better than most other hostels across the city. Nonvegetarian food was served twice a week. Breakfast lunch and dinner was served in adequate quantities and prepared hygienically.

Alumni/Alumna

I have not been very active in the alumni since my graduation. However, i am connected with a lot of my seniors on social networking and often consult them regarding things like job change, or travel.

Exam Structure

Initially, there were frequent assignments, tests, and exams, especially during the first year to acclimatize us to the competitiveness in the real world. But as the course became more vast, we began to have scheduled tests and biannual exams spread across evenly throughout the year.

Admission

The admission announcement was done in a newspaper. I saw it and was interested in all the facilities and course combination the college had to offer. The 5 star accreditation by NAAC caught my attention. I wanted to study Psychology and Journalism in a reputable college in Bangalore. After the interview in Kolkata, I went to the college premises where admission forms were filled and the tuition fee was paid. It was a smooth and easy process.

Faculty

3

The faculty members were highly qualified and very professional in their approach toward teaching their respective subjects. We learned a lot but the environment was not stifling at all. We even got help outside of class hours and our queries were answered in a friendly and helpful manner

Course Curriculum Overview:

The BA English curriculum at the Central University of Karnataka is comprehensive and academically relevant. The course covers British Literature, American Literature, Indian Writing in English, Literary Theory, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies, providing students with a strong foundation in language and literature. The interdisciplinary approach under NEP and the availability of electives were among the factors that influenced my decision to choose this course.

Placement Experience:

The university does have a placement team which faculy and student led. Studnets become eligible for placements towards the end of their fourth year - last semeter. Approximately 100-150 NGO's come to campus for recruiting. The university does not promote private firms for placement but students can apply indivitually. The average pay is 20 Lakh per year. Many students after undergraduation opt for higher studies, so is my plan. But most of the master's students opt for placement and 98% - 99% get placed into NGO in top positions. I plan to pursure a masters degree after my undergraduation, preferably in economics.

Course Curriculum Overview:

We get to learn many things not because of just the syllabus and courses but also because of the national and international conferences that are held in our college. People from other colleges come in and share their knowledge with us. This experience is really good for us students. We even have expert lectures from our alumnis who give us advice on what all is required in the world outside college to earn. All these are really helpful.
