Course Curriculum Overview

Zoology widely covers Biology and Biology being my very favourite subject. Bethune College is one of the esteemed colleges in India. It is the first Women's college in Asia. With its rich heritage and wonderful faculty,it kind of attracted me rather influenced me to do my masters from this very esteemed institution.

Class Size: 20Course Fees: INR 5000 per year

Fees and Financial Aid

Tuition fee for Masters in Zoology is around 20k for 2 years course. Since it is a women colleg,students are given scholarship from state and central government. Swami Vivekananda Merit Scholarship,Single Child scholarship etc. There are various organizations that come here for career counselling as well and offer placements.

Campus Life

Aalap is one of the biggest programmes held in the college campus annually. It is an inter college fest where students from different colleges take part to show their skills. It is an Art based event. The college celebrates annual sports day. There are separate social groups,clubs etc. Details of the same can be viewed in the official website.

Admission

All the information are properly there in the official website of Bethune. The application form and admission details can be found in the website along with the fees structures and course duration. Admission is done based on merit.

Faculty

Faculty to student ratio is 8:20 The teachers are very supportive and engage the entire class in application based QnA sessions time to time . Syllabus is completed on time. Interactive sessions are often held during a lecture and after the completion of a lecture.

Niper Kolkata: from starting to end

Likes

Laboratories facilities are amazing as it is a premium institute. All the labs contains instrument which are available only in institute of national importance o
Faculties are amazingly qualified as well as friendly for solving your doubts
You get multiple opportunities for the industrial experience as internship. This institute provide amazing placement opportunities with high salaries.

Dislikes

The area of the campus is small leads to chaos. Which will be averted after shifting to new campus
Due to the small campus sitting places are very small
Hostel facilities and rooms are very poor.

Placement Experience:

2nd year students are eligible for the campus placement. Sai, Hetero, mendine, dr. Reddys etc companies visities for the campus placement. Offers ranges from 5-12 lpa. 60% students gets placed, 10% goes for higher studies and others get job off campus in my department. Other departments has 100% placement. My plans are pHd from Niper as it provides vast knowledge and instrumental exposure.

The Techno Experience

Likes

Practical Exposure with hands on training is always good for personal growth
The laboratories were well equipped with state of the art instruments
Entrepreneurship was encouraged and it really helped us with designing future start ups.

Dislikes

Lack of scholarships for the needy is one thing that needed to be worked on.
There was a distinct lack of encouragement to pursue extracurricular activity.
Sometimes it felt like it would have helped if we had a mental health counsellor onboard with the department.

Placement Experience:

Techno India University has a strong campus placement. Several students got jobs during the last semester, and I am one of them. Some others choose to wait for better opportunities. Some joined good startups. The package was nominal as we were all freshers. After getting my degree, I planned to pursue corporate experience and then join a lab for my PhD.

Comprehensive Review of MSc Life Sciences in Presidency University, Kolkata.

Likes

Well equipped laboratories with all necessary instruments and chemicals and whatever that is required. Even Electron microscope are available
Senior and Junior relationship is great, and PhD scholars often guide you in studies and in Life
Canteens, Playground, Books shops are near or inside the Campus with Department and Central Library with access to many books and online resources and WiFi

Dislikes

Politics is on peak since great colleges in india such as JNU are engaged in political activities
Attendance above 75 percent is mandatory to appear for exams
The duration of practical can be of 4-5 hours at a strech sometimes apart from Theory classes

Placement Experience:

Not all courses provides placements. But Placements are often common in departments such as Geology, for other departments, faculties can provide letters of recommendations and absorb as PhD scolars after PG completion and satisfactory performance

My thoughts on our beloved Sidho Kanho Birsha University.

Likes

The most I liked about my university is the infrastructure and availability of facilities for our studies.
Second thing I like are our professors . They help us in every aspect of our educational or personal life .
Third thing I like the most is my batchmates who gives me encouragement for pursuing my studies.

Dislikes

The university is a bit far from the Purulia city . So the connectivity is a problem.
I think if we get some extra hours of the lab facilities, that will be great.
Water purifier are available in some of the floors I think the number should be increased.

Placement Experience:

The campus placement of our university is quite good and it is getting better day by day. Especially our chemistry department is doing great in this field. Last year our dept almost hit 100% placements and the highest package was of 5 lpa. I am planning to peruse my PhD after MSc.

I had applied for Ashutosh College and got admitted too but then I got to know that Ashutosh is all about politics, no regular classes nothing, full of raggings and toxicity. I personally didn't felt safe there and then I applied for Bethune, one of the top government women colleges in Kolkata with best teaching faculty and zero ragging or goons and no politics. It was a centralised admission portal and I want actually totally unaware about it. So I mistakenly jumbled my preference list. I placed the college wrongly and I put Ashutosh at following by Maulana Azad college. And being the number one of the preference list, I got Ashutosh and there was no way of downgrading. So I cancelled the admission there and then waited for mop up round and this time, i applied for Bethune college at first and got myself there. Cut-off here remains high all the time, and not everyone gets admitted here. Cut-off is actually 75% but only those who are above 85% gets admitted here....Read More

Why you should not get here

I applied many colleges under CU like Ashutosh College, Jaipuriya College, Scottish Church, Sister Nivedita, Behala. But I choose Bethune as it was convenient for me. Also, Behune is one the finest colleges during ancient times. It's very reputated college there. No, I didn't get rejected in all the mentioned ones except for the Ashutosh college. I had my family friends near Bethune College so it was convenient for me. The eligibilty criteria is same which is mentioned in their website. You must uave scored more than 60% in your intermediate. And your top three subjects will be reviewed then they'll select as per the marks. You don't have to give any exams. Once you applied from their site, your name will appear in their merit list. After final merit list, you'll be called for document verification and after verifying documents, you'll get admission. (Remember, all the admission procedure is online)...Read More

Green, scenic campus and wholesome College experience

One has to score at least 60% overall in Class 12 boards and at least 60% in English to be eligible for the course. The application form can be found by registering on the admissions website (Bethune admissions.ac.in). The application dates will be updated on the college website (Bethune college.ac.in).
