I'm totally satisfied with my college

I am very proud to say that the college management is excellent even in a small campus. The college functions efficiently and takes considerable care of the students. The management staff is dedicated and they give their best. I must say that the college has the potential to compete with the best colleges of Delhi University.

The admission process is simple since Shivaji college belongs to Delhi University. On the basis of my percentage, I got admission into this college. I had scored 92.66% in PCM in by Boards exam (12th) and the cut off for Shivaji college was 92.33. so I got admission into this college. I liked Shivaji college's Atmosphere and culture, moreover, Shivaji college's physics department ranks under top ten in Delhi University so I opted for this particular college.

Talking about the course structure I feel that it's a decent course curriculum. The disadvantage that I feel is about the practical structure. We literally have to rush through our practical/lab so that we are able to complete the minimum number of practicals before the end of the semester. What e actually need is quality and not quantity of the practicals. This is one aspect that I feel the course curriculum can improve upon.

The college provides a pool of internships from which students can choose and apply accordingly. The general stipend remains around 4-5 thousand along with letter of recommendation and perks.The experience is very good in general and the students learn a lot from the internship programs.

In physics Honors, there are not many placements. Honestly, there is a placement society in our college, but the placements rarely take place for physics students. There are various reasons amongst which one that stands out is that physics students generally pursue higher studies after their bachelor's, therefore they don't enroll for placements in the first place. Secondly and more honestly, there are not many jobs for a physics graduate and companies are not interested in granting jobs to them.

Various events keep taking place in our college. In even semesters, every department holds their own workshop which gives the students an experience of organising and handling things, moreover, giving them exposure to knowledge outside their syllabus and textbooks. And then in even semester, the college organises an annual cultural fest that sees the likes of armaan Malik and tiger Shroff performing. Also, there are various inter-college competitions like dance competition, singing competition and fashion show held which gives the students not just from our college but other colleges an opportunity to showcase and nurture their talent. The college holds an annual sports as well in which anyone can form their own team and participate in the various sporting events like cricket, football, table tennis, volleyball, badminton etc. And then every department holds their own fest respectively which gives the students tremendous amounts of experience as lecturers and researchers from all over the country provide their valuable services.

The fee structure is very feasible I feel. Being a government college, the college fee is very minimal. It is around 15,000 to 20,000 in the first year and then decreaes to around 12,000 in the following years. The fee has to be paid annually. The fee submission is online so it is hassle free and the students face absolutely no problems whatsoever regarding fee payment.

There are various scholarship programs for students. One such is the ngpe program which is for physics students. Also, the govt of India and Delhi govt. has also launched various loan program for students as well.

The campus life is just awesome! The gender ratio is around 60-40 with more boys than girls. But there is a lot of diversity in students as there are students ranging from extreme North to extreme south, from West to East. But I must say that there is unity among diversity! The students don't feel awkward among other students. In a short span of time, they feel like home. There is no gender discrimination in the college. Students having different ethnic traditions, race, religion face no problem staying in the college. There is no such politics working against the students and certainly the economic status of the student bears no effect on a student's Studies. There are various student societies such as Reverb, DICTUM, FOOTLOOSE, shutterbugs, VIBGYOR, ENACTUS etc.

Unfortunately there is no hostel in the college campus. But it is extremely positive that the hostel for girls is under construction right in the campus itself. Since there is no hostel there is no point in talking about mess food. But there is an alternative, the college canteen! The quality of food in the college canteen is supreme! With my personal experience I would like to tell that the college canteen was one the driving factors in taking admission in Shivaji college! The food is hygienic and we'll pepared.

My experience with my college seniors and super seniors has been absolutely amazing. Since day one, I developed a very good bond with my seniors. They helped me in my transition from school to college. A little bit after the start of college, I started interacted with my super seniors as well. They shared valuable experiences with me regarding college. And in the alumni meet, I got to know more about the life of the students after college and their experiences.

As the university is following the cbcs structure, exams are held once per semester and there are total two semesters per year. Also there are internal exams once or twice per semester to evaluate a student's understanding of the subject. In our course, labs take place twice or thrice a week.

The respective colleges of Delhi University release their cutoffs for the various courses. If a student scores more than le equal to that cutoff percentage, they can take admission into that particular college and respective course. The cutoff for Bsc hons physics for Shivaji in third cutoff was 92.33. I had scored 92.66 in PCM (since PCM is considered for admission), so I was eligible to take admission and did so.

The faculty in physics course is a mixed bag. There are certain teachers who are very supportive and helping to a student in all regards. While there are others that are not so supportive and helping. The support staff such as the lab staff and the lab attendants also fall under the same heading. Some of them are very good and friendly, they make us feel at home. While others are Stern and not so supportive in their approach. What I liked about the faculty or majorly saying the system, is that there is a mentorship program here for students. Rough around 10 students from every class are allotted a teacher mentor that would listen to their problems and worries. In classroom, some of the teachers are very skillful. Some teachers explain the concepts by demonstration for better understanding of the subject. For one subject, there is generally one teacher to 30 students. But honestly, no, we don't get any kind of industry or organisational exposure.
