Likes
- The campus is beautiful, and situated at the heart of Bangalore, there is a lot of exposure.
- Infrastructure is reasonably good, and general maintenance is excellent
- Campus life is very busy, with about 40 different events happening at any given point of time.
Dislikes
- Faculty is mediocre at best, at worst, I could try teaching the class and would probably do better
- A draconian focus on "discipline": restricitve dress codes and an unrealistic attendance requirement (85%).
- Despite the global exposure, much of the faculty in my department is stuck at eary 2000's ideals and ideas for what a BSc in computer science would get the degree holder in terms of prospects.
Course Curriculum Overview
The proximity of the college to the IT hub of India influenced my decision to study here. Doing just the coursework won't get you a job or admission into a Master's degree program anywhere. The curriculum could benefit frol numerous changes, too many to detail here.
Internships Opportunities
There is an RnD establishment and some companies outsource work to students through this. Otherwise students have to look for internships themselves. The ones who do work here though seem to cover real world problems.
Placement Experience
Placement starts from 5th or 6th semester. Deloitte and DE Shaw seem to be frequent visitors. The highest anyone went in my course was about 16 lpa. The averahe hovers around 3 to 5 lpa. Placement percentages are bleak. I plan to pursue a master's after getting my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
85000 per year, 4th year 110000. First year 5000 admissiom fees. If someone is a resident of Karnataka, belongs to minority categories or is Christian, these fees are significantly less im varying degrees.
Campus Life
Campus life is very good. Fests are held all the time. The departmental fests range from boring to really well sponsored and produced, while the university fest is a sight to behold. The library has a good collection of books and journals, though there should be more. Classroom facilities are good enough. Sports and extra-curricular activities are offered in plenty, and in case one is interested, they could do wonders here. Student run groups are a dime a dozen here. Every 2 people are part of some group or the other and they actually do activities.
Admission
A Christ degree still has value, and in today's world unfortunately perceived value is preferred over actual value. I did get rejected from other colleges, but I could have gone to others as well. The admission process is simple. Everyone gets admission in Christ.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio in my class is 1:70. Faculties are approachable, but getting any relevant answer out of them is a herculean task. There are 2 main exams in a semester and numerous smaller ones. They are not difficult, though students have been known to fail in them. That percentage is very less, since failing an exam in Christ takes more skill than passing one, that too with a good percentage. The course curriculum tries to be relevant, but fails to explore the depths of the subjects.
Interview Experience
There was an interview. Very basic questions were asked. I forgot the answer for one of them and the interviewer basically answered it for me. There is no other criteria for my course, and like I said, getting admission here is extremely easy.
