Course Curriculum Overview

5

The Japanese course curriculum at Visva-Bharati is quite well-structured for beginners aiming to build a strong foundation in the language. Grammar, vocabulary, translation, and basic conversation practice from first year itself helped me feel confident in choosing this course. It also includes Japanese culture, society and history which makes learning more engaging. The course prepares students well for further studies like JLPT exams or higher degrees. The teaching is mostly traditional and adding digital methods or interactive sessions would make it more effective. Exams are conducted at the end of each sem twice a year. they are moderate in difficulty neither too hard nor too easy and are fair if you attend classes regularly.

Internships Opportunities

5

Some students have interned with organizations like JAPAN FOUNDATION, EMBASSY CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES AND JAPANESE LANGUAGE BASED BPOS or TRANSLATION AGENCIES. These roles often include content translation, document proofreading, language teaching assistance or basic interpretation. Internships rarely come with fixed stipend though some private firms offer between 3000 to 10000 INR depending on JLPT qualification and skill level. Many students also take part in online or remote internships via platforms like INTEERNSHALA or LINKEDIN, focusing on Japanese content writing, social media localization or research-based translation projects.

Placement Experience

5

Placements at VBU especially for courses like BA IN JAPANESE are limited. Most students do not receive offers through campus recruitment. However, the course opens up oppurtunities in fields like translation, interpretation and working with Japanese Companies especially for those who clear JLPT N2 or N1. After completing my bachelor's I plan to pursue an MBA as combining language skills with management education offers a strong edge in the global job market.

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly tuition fee would be somewhere around 6030 INR as a general candidate. 5190 INR as a SC/ST/ OBC or EWS Candidate. VBU offers various scholarships and financial aid options to support its students academically and economically. For students engaged in research VBU facilitates fellowships like the NON-NET Research Fellowship, INSPIRE FELLOWSHIP, and RAJIV GANDHI NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP for SC/ST scholars which provide substantial monthly stipends. Female students can benefit from schemes like INDIRA GANDHI SINGLE GIRL CHILD FELLOWSHIP for women offering 31000 INR per month. Students can even apply for SWAMI VIVEKANANDA MERIT-CUM MEANS SCHOLARSHIP provided by the Government of West Bengal which supports deserving students from economically weak backgrounds with upto 12000 INR

Campus Life

5

Campus life at VBU is calm, culturally vibrant and deeply rooted in tradition. Unlike fast-paced city colleges, VBU offers a peaceful environment where students can grow both intellectually and personally. Social life on campus revolves around iconic cultural events like Poush Mela( December), Basanta Utsav(March) and the student organized Ananda Mela, where students setup stalls, perform and engage in creative activities. Sports facilities include football, cricket, badminton, basketball, swimming etc. with inter-departmental tournaments held regularly. There are multiple student clubs like PHOTOGRAPHY, NATURE, DRAMA, MEDIA, COMPETITIVE EXAMS, SPORTS ETC.

Admission

I chose VBU over other colleges because of its peaceful campus, strong language programmes and unique academic environment inspired by Rabindranath tagore's vision. I had also applied to JNU and EFLU, but after careful comparison I found VBU more aligned with my learning style and personal goals. The UNIVERSITY offers a more focused and supportive setting with smaller class sizes and close student-teacher interaction which is ideal for studying a language like Japanese. The admission process was conducted through the CUET( COMMON UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE TEST) . The eligibilty was 10+2 with a valid CUET score. For Japanese VBU considers marks of either ENGLISH or GENERAL TEST whichever you get higher marks in. I dont regret choosing VBU it was the right decision for my academic and personal development.

Faculty

5

the faculty in the Japnese Department is friendly, skilled and easy to talk to. With small class sizes students get more attention and guidance. the teaching style covers grammar, words reading, writing, speaking and basic talks in Japanese.

Night Life

5

the nightlife is quite laid back reflecting the calm and culturally rich environment of Santiniketan. Unlike metro campuses, things slow down after sunset, but students still find their own ways to unwind. The Central Library generally closes by 8PM, and most departmental libraries and public academic spaces shut earlier by 5-6PM. The campus gym, is open till evening.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum provides a comprehensive retrospective of literature from the Old English period to Modern period, while also including English works by Indian authors to demonstrate the diversity and evolution of English literature over the years. The current curriculum I believe requires more seminars and lectures from guest faculties on contemporary research and topics.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I love to read English and it's easy for me so that's why I choose it. There are a total of 50 students in this course. Our teachers are very helpful and talented and also support us. We have 2 semesters after 6 months in 1 year. Exams are comfortable for the students who study the subject. It is difficult for those who do not study.
