Remarks
Positives related to the college us that we do have a wide research scope in this university, and this pro helps us in good NIRF rankings. The negative part of this college is the movements associated with union. Though it has minimal effect on our studies, still people do have a fear instilled regarding politics.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is definitely vast and ensures wide scope of research abilities. In my department, workshops are to be taken seriously as each semester has atleast 1 mechanical workshop like carpentry, welding and so on. Coming to the exam structure, our university strictly follows the rule of Absolute grading, ie, the gpa we get is based on our score only. There are certain subjects named sessionals where we need to have atleast 50% attendance to sit for the exams.
Placement Experience
Our college provides one of the best placements in India considering it as a state University. Computer science department had an average of 20lpa with highest offer 42lpa. Mechanical too had a decent placement with 89.11% people getting placed. Regarding internships, many companies come for interns and are positive about interns. Being in 2nd year, I was not able to sit for interns as it is eligible for 3rd years only.
College Events
We have 2 types of fests- namely Srijan, the technical fest and Sanskriti, the cultural fest. Srijan is well known for the wide participation of colleges in West Bengal. Sanskriti is known as the biggest cultural fest along with xavotsav. Other than that, we do have technical fests in individual departments also, namely trajectory for Mechanical and Chembridge for Chemical.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Let's come to the fees. The fees are too feasible for a middle class family. We have to pay Rs.10,000 in 4 years, ie, 2500 rupees per year, more precisely, 1250 per semester. The hostel fees are also less, costing 1500 per year.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college provides scholarship for financially unstable students so that they do not have any problems during their stay in the college. There are various companies who are linked with the Institute and provide study loans, if needed.
Campus Life
Regarding labs, they may not be in their best conditions, but they are good enough to continue our research. We do have a big ground where sports activities like inter departmental contests take place.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are allowed for students who are financially not stable enough. Other than that, we do have hostel for girls too. For financially stable guys, there are ample flats for rent which are easily affordable and cheap.
Alumni/Alumna
The best part of our college is the Alumni network. Seniors are always considered as our family members and we do have mutual respect for each other. We get any sorts of help whenever needed, irrespective of any kind of difficulties.
Admission
At first, you need to have a rank in WBJEE. Generally, a rank below 1500 among 1.5 lakh candidates is considered to be good. What next follows is online counselling by wbjeeb.nic.in, where we might be alloted a rank after 3 rounds. Then we need to go the reporting centre(university) to confirm our seat. And that's how it's done.
Faculty
The mechanical engineering faculty is no doubt one of the best faculties in India with a huge number of 80 members, the strength of our faculty is incredible, the knowledge level of them is beyond our imagination. From classroom study to research, we have outstanding professors.
