IIT Delhi Admission 2026 at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi runs on a single-exam, merit-only model. B.Tech seats go exclusively through JEE Advanced and JoSAA counselling. No management quota exists at any IIT.

Postgraduate routes are equally exam-locked. M.Tech candidates must hold a valid GATE score and register on the COAP portal. MBA seats at the Department of Management Studies (DMS) require a CAT 2025 score.

Admission Update:
  • B.Tech (JoSAA): JoSAA 2026 counselling completed Rounds 1 through 5 between June 13 and July 16, 2026. Reporting and document verification at IIT Delhi ongoing. Next cycle registration expected June 2027.
  • M.Tech (COAP/GATE): COAP 2026 offer rounds in progress. GATE 2026 score required. Apply at pgadmission.iitd.ac.in for 2026-27 intake.
  • MBA and Executive MBA (DMS): MBA 2026-28 batch selections concluded; results announced May 2026. Executive MBA 2026-28 applications closed April 15, 2026; written test held May 2026.
  • IIT Delhi B.Tech admission uses JEE Advanced only. JEE Main alone does NOT qualify a candidate for any IIT seat.
  • Reservation follows GoI norms: OBC-NCL 27%, SC 15%, ST 7.5%, EWS 10%. A horizontal 5% PwD sub-reservation applies within each category.
  • Female supernumerary seats are added above the base count so that female enrolment reaches at least 20% of total B.Tech intake. These seats do not displace male candidates.
  • Class 12 minimum for JEE Advanced eligibility: 75% aggregate (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top 20 percentile of the respective board.
  • DMS MBA: CAT 2025 is the only accepted score. No GMAT, XAT, or other substitute is permitted.
  • PhD admission is through IIT Delhi’s own written test and research interview. GATE/NET/CSIR is mandatory for most engineering and science disciplines.

IIT Delhi Admission Portal 2026: home.iitd.ac.in

Direct Admission at IIT Delhi: IIT Delhi has no management quota and no NRI quota for B.Tech. All seats are filled through JoSAA merit-based counselling using JEE Advanced ranks. No seat can be purchased or obtained through institutional discretion.

IIT Delhi B.Tech Selection Criteria 2026

Seat allotment is purely rank-based through JoSAA. The JEE Advanced All India Rank (AIR) determines which branch a candidate is allotted based on their choice order. The 2026 closing ranks for flagship branches (Open category) are given below.

Branch 2026 Closing Rank (Open Category)
Computer Science and Engineering AIR 126
Mathematics and Computing AIR 323
Electrical Engineering AIR 605
Mechanical Engineering AIR 1,862
Chemical Engineering AIR 2,425
Civil Engineering AIR 4,302
Engineering Physics AIR 2,358
Design (B.Tech) AIR 12,217

Candidates may choose Freeze, Float, or Slide after each allotment round. Freeze locks the seat permanently. Float upgrades across all institutes. Slide upgrades within IIT Delhi only. The final round offers Freeze only.

As per a Reddit discussion on r/JEENEETards, many students with ranks between 300 and 700 choose Mathematics and Computing or Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi over CSE at newer IITs, citing the institute brand, campus infrastructure, and Delhi location as key deciding factors over branch name alone.

Note: IIT Delhi does not offer a branch change after admission based on first-year performance, unlike some other IITs. Candidates should lock choices carefully during JoSAA. Once the final round closes, the allotted branch is permanent for the four-year programme.

How to Apply for IIT Delhi B.Tech?

  • Appear for JEE Advanced 2026 (requires qualifying JEE Main 2026 first).
  • After JEE Advanced results, register at josaa.nic.in using your JEE Advanced roll number.

  • Upload required documents and complete online reporting to confirm your seat.
