Ques. Where should I pursue my Computer Science course, Thapar University or Manipal University?

● Top Answer By Krishna Shrivastav on 16 Jun 21

Ans. My brother did his MBA from Manipal University and it has been one of the best decisions of his life. While both are prime universities, Manipal holds an edge due to the following reasons. You will get the best-in-class faculties, infrastructure, and facilities that you won’t be able to get at Thapar. In recent QS ranking 2020, Manipal University secured 17th rank all over India and 200th all over Asia, making it one of the top-ranked private universities in India. Manipal University has also ranked way above the famous BHU (IIT BHU) in the World QS ranking 2021. Manipal university ranked #751-800 whereas BHU, and Thapar belonged to the same bracket of #801-1000. Here are the 2020 placement trends in brief at Manipal. Average CTC 7.2 LPA Highest CTC 22.38 LPA Total no of offers made 781 Major recruiters  E&Y, ITC, Microsoft, Dell, etc. Overall, Manipal University is one of the top private institutions making it a great choice to pursue a computer science course. Read more

Ques. Which college should be preferred between Thapar University and SRM, Chennai?

● Top Answer By Shruti Rai on 09 Jun 21

Ans. The comparison between Thapar and SRM is definitely not up to the mark because Thapar is better than SRM. Having friends studying in both these colleges, I can assure you to confidently choose Thapar over SRM. Being a private college SRM had never paid attention to the quality education or any other criteria which a better college should do. It's the same as all other private colleges in India. Thapar should be preferred. Be it faculty, environment, infrastructure, education, and placements, Thapar is much better. Categories Thapar University SRM Course Fee 8.85 lakh 2 lakh Placement Percentage 80% 70-80% Average CTC 7-8 LPA 5 LPA Recruiting Companies DE Shaw, Bosch, Flipkart, HCL, etc. TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Byju’s, etc. It basically depends on the student as comparing the Institute won't end up anywhere. A student should focus on the right career and college from the very beginning and should prepare accordingly. According to the student's priorities and choice of place, the Institute can be selected. But among these two, Thapar excels over SRM.Read more

Ques. Which is better, electronics and instrumentation in Thapar, IT in Maharaja Agrasen College, or CSE in Maharaja Surajmal College?

● Top Answer By Rahul Dua on 08 Jun 21

Ans. I know people from these institutes and based on the conversations I had with them, I will say the preference order should be somewhat like below. CSE MSIT ~ IT MAIT > ICE Thapar Since you are considering different branches, it is clear that you don’t have any inclination towards a specific branch or specialization. If it’s true I will suggest don’t go for ICE Thapar. It is a core branch that already has fewer job opportunities in the industry. To score a decent placement at a core company for this branch you will need to be at the top of your class. Else, you are likely to end up in mass recruiting companies or software companies. So, it will be better to stay in Delhi, it will be cost-effective, you can save up for your postgraduate degree and pursue what is in demand currently.Read more

Ques. Which is better: IIIT Guwahati or Thapar University?

● Top Answer By Sneha Sharma on 31 May 21

Ans. I have a few friends at both institutes so I can give you some idea about them. Both IIIT Guwahati and Thapar University are very good engineering institutes, but the former will be a better choice.  Thapar University is a reputed private institute with good infrastructure, an updated curriculum, and a well-developed alumni base. But when compared to IIIT Guwahati it falls behind. If we check the recent placement statistics for these two institutes, there a big difference can be seen. The average CTC offered at Thapar for recent years has been around 7 LPA, whereas for IIIT Guwahati the average CTC is around 10.2 LPA.  The final decision is yours. Consider all these facts and choose wisely. Read more

Ques. Is it worth doing a BTech in biotechnology from Thapar University, or should I prefer a government college like UIET Chandigarh? What are the placement records of biotechnology students at Thapar?

● Top Answer By Dhruv Sehgal on 26 May 21

Ans. If you have a keen interest in biotechnology, then B.Tech in Biotechnology is an excellent field. But if you aren’t interested in the branch it will be better to go for other branches. I have friends from both institutes. Here are some of the facts about the Biotech course at both institutes based on the interactions I had with them.  Comparison: Biotech from UIET Chandigarh is decent, but the placement opportunities are limited. But if you have a good academic record then you can go for higher studies at Panjab University which has a good industry interface with Sun Pharma.  Panjab University holds a better international reputation than Thapar University. It will help you sail through the admission process in a leading foreign institute for further education in biotech. The crowd in UIET Chandigarh is better than Thapar University. The reason is, UIET requires to require a less JEE Mains cut-off rank as compared to Thapar. Thapar is a private university. So, it has the edge over the placements compared to UIET Chandigarh. Being a private institution it charges a massive fee as compared to UIET Chandigarh. Thapar has a tie-up Trinity College, Dublin, so you get an opportunity to do (2+2), i.e., two years at Thapar and two years at Trinity. This program can hike the fee up to INR 40-45 Lakhs. Before joining, it will be better to have a conversation with the students on campus to have a wholesome knowledge about the institutes.Read more

Remarks :

I applied to many colleges including VIT, TIET, BITS and IPU. Although, I was selected in almost all of them for Computer Science, I chose Thapar based on Nirf ranking and reviews from my acquaintance who have passed out/studying in these colleges. Apart from that, Thapar also provided an Open-day seminar before Admissions counselling which was great for experiencing the coding life. The admission was on basis of both JEE and board merits, tho I chose JEE mode for scholarships benefit. The cutoffs were quite high and I barely made it in first counselling. After that, the process included document verification and opting for hostel.

I applied for different colleges like BITS Pilani , NIT Jalandhar for the B.Tech course but as I had my interest in Computer science so I got this branch in thapar college. I didn't get my preferred stream in other colleges so I didn't opt for them. I got my state quota of Punjab state for admission in Thapar as I am a resident of Punjab. I got admission on the basis of board exams. For the COE branch minimum cutoff was 93% in PCM subjects and I got 94% so I easily admission on my first counselling day only. Due to covid there was no offline counselling session so all the councelling sessions were held in online mode. So admission was on the basis of boards exams but last 2 counselling session was based on JEE MAINS exam scores.

Remarks :

The admission process was very simple and straightforward at Thapar. I'd filled the registration forms for Thapar, SRM, and VIT with my CBSE scores as due to pandemics these universities were offering seats on the basis of the class 12th scores. I didn't select SRM and VIT because they were too far away as compared to THAPAR and moreover I was getting a course of my choice i.e. computer engineering at THAPAR so it seemed reasonable to take admission. I am a resident of Punjab so I secured a seat under the Punjab Quota. I was informed via mail and text message regarding confirmation of my seat and had to pay my fees for the first semester within 5 days to secure my admission. Under the Punjab quota, the minimum marks for admission were 88% in CBSE and the percentage was considerably higher for students outside Punjab.

Remarks :

The admission process for Thapar Institute is very simple :- 1. You have to fill an online form which opens in April. 2. Cost of this form is 1500 INR. 3. You have to fill in the personal details . 4. After filling all the personal details you have to fill in educational details. 5. After that you have to select for a stream that is on preferrence bases, you have to fill in the seats based on your choice. 6. The course you are willing to do should be given a higher preferrance, 1 being the highest. 7. After that 4 cut-off lists are released. 8. As soon as you pass the cutoff for a seat that seat becomes open to you . 9. Then you have to lock in the seat and have to pay the semester fees and the registeration fees that have to be paid by a demand draft that has to be delivered by hand to the institute.

"Thapar in a nutshell"

"Honest Review - Thapar University"

I applied for VIT and SRM but didn't take admission due to poor quality of placements and peer group. I am from the General Outside Punjab quota. I had 95.33 in PCM and got admission on the 12th board's basis (due to coronavirus). The admission Process was online due to covid it had 3 counseling sessions with different cutoffs, I was selected in the second one for Computer Engineering, initially, I was allotted Electronics Instrumentation.

"An Honest Review"

I applied for VIT Vellore but did not apply because it was very far from my home. I did not avail any quota. Admission criteria were based on marks of class 12 and jee score. I got my branch from my jee score. Due to covid our admission and councelling were all online so we didn't go to college for it.
