Emory University is a private research institution founded in 1836 in Atlanta, Georgia, ranked #24 in the US News National Universities 2026 for the third consecutive year. The campus enrols close to 380 Indian students across health sciences, business, computing and social science programmes, and international students make up 17.7% of the total student body.

Postgraduate programmes for Indian applicants sit across Laney Graduate School, Goizueta Business School, Rollins School of Public Health, and Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. Instruction runs in English across every graduate track, with two-year and one-year MBA formats, a 10-month or 16-month Master of Business Analytics, and MS routes in Computer Science, Biostatistics and Public Health drawing consistent applications from India. A STEM designation on most MS tracks unlocks up to 36 months of Optional Practical Training after graduation.

  • QS World Rank 2027: #183
  • US News National Universities 2026: #24 (third consecutive year)
  • Estimated Acceptance Rate: 11% (estimated)
  • PG Tuition (Laney Graduate School): $24,900 per semester (₹23.84 lakh)
  • Indian Students Enrolled: 380

Merit scholarships at Goizueta reach 60% of tuition for candidates applying by Round 2, while Rollins signals a preferred international deadline of May 1, 2027 for MPH applicants planning to study in USA.

Exchange rate used: 1 USD = ₹95.75 as of August 2026

Admission Status: Open (Fall 2027 intake). Goizueta’s Two-Year MBA closes Round 1 on September 30, 2026, with Round 2 due January 6, 2027 and Round 3 due March 17, 2027. Laney Graduate School PhD programmes deadline range from December 1, 2026 to mid-January 2027 depending on the department, while most master’s applications remain open through June 2027 on rolling review. Rollins School of Public Health lists May 1, 2027 as the preferred international deadline for Fall 2027 entry.

Popular Courses and Fees at Emory University 2027

Emory University publishes tuition at the school level. Laney Graduate School charges a uniform semester rate for most PhD and Master’s programmes, while Goizueta Business School and Rollins School of Public Health run separate fee schedules. Master’s programmes typically span 10 to 24 months, and per-semester tuition multiplied by the number of enrolled semesters gives the total programme cost. All rates below reflect the 2026-2027 academic year.

Insider note: Indian applicants concentrate in three tracks: Master of Business Analytics at Goizueta, MPH at Rollins, and MS Computer Science at Laney. The 10-month MSBA remains the shortest ROI programme at Emory University for Indian STEM graduates because it qualifies for 36 months of post-study OPT.

Emory University Admission 2027

Emory University runs a Fall (August) primary intake with a small Spring (January) intake for a limited set of Goizueta and part-time programmes. Deadlines are set at the school level and vary sharply across Laney Graduate School, Goizueta and Rollins, so Indian applicants must map each target programme to its own timeline.

MilestoneDateNotes for Indian Applicants
Two-Year MBA Round 1 (Goizueta)September 30, 2026Notification December 2, 2026; scholarship review begins immediately
Two-Year MBA Round 2 (Goizueta)January 6, 2027Recommended final round for Indian applicants seeking scholarship review
MPH international preferred (Rollins)May 1, 2027Ensures Fall 2027 review; later applications may defer
Laney PhD programme deadlinesDecember 1, 2026 to mid-January 2027Varies by department; strictest cutoffs at bench science tracks
Programme start (Fall 2027 intake)August 2027WES credential evaluation must reach Emory before matriculation

As per Goizueta Business School, applications are due by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the published date, and Round 2 is the last round with meaningful scholarship consideration. According to Rollins School of Public Health, applications received after May 1 may still be reviewed but could be deferred to the next Fall cycle.

Planning note: Indian applicants targeting Laney PhD programmes should begin WES course-by-course evaluations by mid-October 2026, because Indian universities typically take four to six weeks to release the attested transcripts WES requires.

Emory University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Requirements are set per school, but a consistent bar of academic performance, English proficiency and credential evaluation applies to Indian applicants across Emory University.

  • Bachelor’s academic profile: A four-year Indian bachelor’s with 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended); Laney and Rollins expect 65% or CGPA 6.5/10 for competitive doctoral tracks
  • English test minimums: As per Rollins School of Public Health, TOEFL iBT 4.0 to 4.5 on the 1-6 scale (or 79-80 legacy) and IELTS 6.0 overall; other schools also accept the Duolingo English Test
  • Credential evaluation: WES course-by-course evaluation for Laney, Rollins and Nell Hodgson Woodruff Nursing applicants; some departments accept ECE or IERF instead
  • Standardised tests: GMAT or GRE for MBA and MSBA; GRE optional for most Laney master’s; PhD tracks retain GRE for select departments

Key insight: Emory University uses TOEFL institution code 5187 with no department code needed, so Indian applicants should send their scores through the standard ETS destination selector rather than waiting for a programme-specific code that does not exist.

Emory University Acceptance Rate 2027

Emory University reports an overall admission rate of 11% (estimated) at the undergraduate level, based on third-party disclosures of applicant volume and offer counts. Graduate acceptance varies sharply by programme: Goizueta MBA and MSBA sit close to 30 to 35% (estimated), while Rollins MPH tracks and Laney PhD programmes fall below 20% (estimated). Official rates are not published at the university level.

Selectivity has tightened over the past three cycles as applicant volumes rose at Goizueta and Rollins. Applicants with an Indian institutional background face similar review standards to domestic candidates, with weighting on English test scores, referee credibility and quantitative preparation.

Reality check: An 11% headline masks a much wider PG range. An Indian applicant with 70% Class 12, a 70% bachelor’s, GRE 320+ and two years of relevant work experience sits comfortably inside the competitive band for Laney master’s admissions.

Emory University Fees for Indian Students 2027

As per Emory’s Laney Graduate School, full-time PG tuition at 9 or more credit hours is $24,900 (₹23.84 lakh) per semester in 2026-2027. Rollins and Nell Hodgson Woodruff Nursing publish separate schedules, while Goizueta programmes use total programme fees.

Insider note: Indian students who share a two-bedroom apartment in Decatur or Clairmont cap accommodation near $850 (₹81,388) per month, well below Emory’s on-campus Woodruff and Clairmont Tower rates. MARTA’s TAP student pass makes ownership of a car optional.

Emory University Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Emory University occupies a 631-acre wooded campus in the Druid Hills neighbourhood of Atlanta, roughly 25 minutes from downtown by Atlanta’s MARTA network, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority bus and rail system.

  • Location and transit: Druid Hills sits on the eastern edge of Atlanta with MARTA bus routes 6 and 36 connecting to the Lindbergh MARTA rail station in 20 minutes
  • Housing: On-campus graduate housing at Clairmont Tower runs $1,300 to $1,600 (₹1.24 lakh to ₹1.53 lakh) per month; guaranteed for first-year Laney PhD admits
  • Notable facility: The Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center houses the second-largest academic medical library in the United States and anchors clinical rotations for Rollins and Nell Hodgson Woodruff Nursing students
  • Indian community: The Society of South Asian Students and the Emory India Business Association run Diwali, Republic Day and Holi events with 300 plus regular attendees
  • Support services: International Student and Scholar Services offers dedicated visa, OPT and CPT clinics every fortnight through the academic year

What Indian students say: Atlanta offers a low cost of living relative to New York or Boston, and the Patel Brothers grocery in Decatur plus a dense corridor of South Indian restaurants along Buford Highway keep home-style meals accessible. Winter is mild, which reduces adjustment costs in year one.

Emory University Scholarships 2027

Emory University runs four confirmed named awards for graduate students plus school-specific merit scholarships. None target Indian nationals exclusively, but Indian applicants remain eligible across every listed award.

As per Emory’s Laney Graduate School, most doctoral admits also receive a 100% Emory University Student Health Insurance Plan premium subsidy for a minimum of five years. Master’s applicants should expect more limited internal funding and rely on external routes such as Fulbright, Inlaks and JN Tata Endowment for gap financing.

Planning note: Indian MBA applicants should treat Round 2 as the hard cutoff for scholarship review. Goizueta reserves the deepest awards for candidates whose files clear Round 2 admissions committees, so a Round 3 submission is functionally a self-funded application.

Emory University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Emory University’s Career Center and the Roberto C. Goizueta Career Management Center run separate placement operations, with Goizueta reporting the highest structured placement volume among all Emory schools.

  • Goizueta full-time MBA employment (within three months of graduation): 90% plus in recent cohorts, per school disclosures
  • Goizueta MBA median starting salary: $155,000 (₹148.41 lakh); labeled as school-reported cohort median
  • MSBA median starting salary: $100,000 (₹95.75 lakh); labeled as school-reported median
  • Top recruiter sectors: Consulting, healthcare administration, technology, financial services and consumer goods; representative employers include Deloitte, Accenture, McKinsey, IQVIA, Emory Healthcare and Coca-Cola (Atlanta corporate HQ)
  • Post-study work window: 12-month OPT for all F-1 graduates, extended to 36 months for STEM-designated MS Computer Science, MSBA, Biostatistics and Epidemiology graduates

Insider note: Atlanta’s cluster of Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, Home Depot, UPS and Cox Enterprises headquarters gives Emory University graduates a Fortune 500 recruiting base within a 20-mile radius, which reduces the visa-sponsorship friction Indian graduates face at coastal peers.

Emory University vs Peer Universities

Emory University stands out for the combination of a top-25 US News National Universities placement, a Fortune 500 city as its home market, and the STEM designation that unlocks 36 months of Optional Practical Training on MS tracks. It sits below the top three IITs on QS World but ahead of most Indian universities for global brand pull in health and business analytics recruiting.

Emory University fits an Indian applicant with a 60% or higher bachelor’s, a cleared TOEFL or IELTS and a clear sector target in health, public policy, business analytics or business, willing to invest ₹79 lakh to ₹172 lakh across the programme. The MBA universities in USA access from Goizueta, the STEM OPT window on MS tracks and the 380 Indian peers already on campus anchor the ROI case.

Emory University is not the right fit for cost-sensitive applicants who value a top-20 QS placement above all else. Candidates who need a lower-cost engineering pathway with strong India recruiter pull should compare against IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay before finalising.

Emory University FAQs

Ques. What is the application fee at Emory University for graduate programs?

Ans. Emory University charges $75 (₹7,181) for most Laney Graduate School applications. Goizueta’s Master of Business Analytics carries a higher $150 (₹14,363) fee. Two-Year and One-Year MBA programmes at Goizueta publish their own fee schedules, and US military service members qualify for automatic waivers at Goizueta. Fees are non-refundable and payable by credit card at submission.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time at Emory?

Ans. F-1 visa holders at Emory may work up to 20 hours per week on campus during term and full-time during official breaks. Curricular Practical Training becomes available after the first academic year for programme-integrated internships. Off-campus employment before that window requires Optional Practical Training authorisation from USCIS. International Student and Scholar Services runs mandatory work-authorisation workshops before any employment begins.

Ques. Does Emory University waive GMAT for MBA applicants?

Ans. Goizueta grants GMAT waivers on a case-by-case basis. Candidates with an existing terminal degree, a Chartered Accountant qualification or advanced quantitative work in their bachelor’s may request one through the application portal. Waivers are common for Emory PhD graduates entering an MBA and for candidates with strong CFA or CPA credentials. Submit the waiver request before starting the main application.

Ques. Which loans cover Emory University tuition for Indian students?

Ans. HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, InCred and Prodigy Finance all recognise Emory across Laney Graduate School, Goizueta, Rollins and Nell Hodgson Woodruff Nursing. Unsecured loan approvals typically reach ₹75 lakh with a co-signer waived for STEM master’s admits. SBI Global Ed-Vantage extends up to ₹1.5 crore with collateral. Confirm each lender’s current Emory-specific interest rate before signing the sanction letter.

Ques. How long does STEM OPT last after MS at Emory?

Ans. STEM-designated master’s programmes at Emory qualify Indian graduates for a 12-month Optional Practical Training window plus a 24-month STEM extension. Total post-study work runs 36 months for MS Computer Science, MSBA, MS Biostatistics and MS Epidemiology graduates. Non-STEM tracks such as the MBA and general MPH carry a 12-month OPT window without the STEM extension. Employers must enrol in E-Verify for the extension.

Ques. Are conditional offers issued at Emory University?

Ans. Yes. Laney Graduate School and Rollins issue conditional offers when transcripts, English-test scores or bachelor’s degree completion are pending. Most conditional offers require the missing item to reach Emory before matriculation in August. Goizueta MBA and MSBA rarely issue conditional offers because their rounds close well before Indian degree conferrals. Confirm expected timelines with the programme coordinator to keep the offer active.

Ques. What credential evaluation does Emory require from Indian applicants?

Ans. Emory accepts WES course-by-course evaluations for most Laney Graduate School, Rollins and Nell Hodgson Woodruff Nursing programmes. Some departments accept ECE or IERF instead. Indian applicants should start the WES process six to eight weeks before the application deadline because Indian universities can take four to six weeks to release attested transcripts. Goizueta accepts self-uploaded transcripts at the application stage.

Ques. How does the F-1 dependent visa work for Emory students?

Ans. Emory’s International Student Services issues an I-20 that lists the spouse or child as an F-2 dependent when the student uploads passport copies and proof of relationship. F-2 dependents cannot work in the United States and children under 21 may attend K-12 schools free. Spouses may enrol in part-time academic courses only. Financial-proof requirements rise by roughly $8,000 per dependent on the Certificate of Finances.

Overview

I got into Emory University through a program called Quest Bridge. Quest Bridge is a program for low-income or first-generation students. That being said, Emory University gave me the most scholarships. I prepared for admission by attending an event hosted by the school -- virtual and in person.

Campus Life

While Emory does not have a sports team that is popular in the country, the institution makes up for it in other ways. They host various events for students to mingle and get plugged into their community.

Overview

Emory is the perfect school for a liberal arts + science education. My interests are math, gender studies, and South Asian studies; this combination works very well at Emory. The undergraduate class size is not too overwhelming, nor is too small that classes have a maximum of 10 people. The Math and CS departments are great and overlapping in many ways.

Emory's biggest asset is its campus life.

Overview

I received a full ride and it was between here or university of Florida. However, I received more money from Emory so I decided to go there on top of that it is the ivy of the south so how could I give that up! There are many opportunities for students in Atlanta especially if you want to be in the medical field.

Fees

Tuition is a lot like almost 60 thousand there are many fees for example transcript fee, gym fee, you also have to pay for dorms and all of that stuff I didn't take any loans out because I didn't need them right now but I did get two scholarships and a lot of grant money from the school and FAFSA which is government money.

Overview

I chose Emory University because they offered a great financial aid package of $67,000 without loans. It was also the ideal size being a medium-sized university. The university is also ranked 20 according to US News.

Fees

The total cost of attendance is around $69,000. Tuition is only about $30,000. But housing is required for the first two years, so that adds a lot to the cost. But financial aid is very good. I received $67,000 in scholarships and grants.

Jewish community drew me to accept. Amazing and competitive programs. At the same time has a very friendly environment and all the resources and tools to succeed. In the end, these were the factors that made my decision for me.

Fees

Overall tuition is the main fee. There are also housing and dining fees as well as some activity fees.
