Georgia Institute of Technology Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Georgia Tech applies uniform academic and English proficiency thresholds across most graduate programmes, with individual departments layering GRE and prerequisite requirements on top.

Georgia Tech PG Requirements

  • Bachelor’s academic eligibility: Minimum CGPA 3.0/4.0 (equivalent to CGPA 7.5/10 or 65% recommended) from a recognised institution
  • English test minimums: IELTS overall 7.0 (Reading 6.5, Listening 6.5, Speaking 6.5, Writing 5.5); TOEFL iBT overall 90 with each section at least 19; PTE not published; Duolingo not accepted for graduate admissions
  • Credential verification: WES course-by-course evaluation required for Indian bachelor’s transcripts
  • Application fee: USD 105 (INR 8,820) for graduate; USD 105 for MBA

Georgia Tech UG Requirements

  • Class 12 academic requirement: Class 12 with 85% to 95% (recommended) from CBSE, ICSE or state boards
  • Language requirement: IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 90 (same thresholds as graduate)
  • Application fee: USD 85 (INR 7,140) via Common App

Key insight: Georgia Tech grants an English test waiver if the Indian applicant’s prior degree was formally taught in English AND verified by Georgia Tech, or if completed at an institution in an approved English-primary country. A CBSE or ICSE English-medium school completion alone does not automatically qualify without institutional verification.

Georgia Institute of Technology Acceptance Rate 2027

Georgia Tech’s international acceptance rate stood at 7.73% for 2025-26, considerably lower than its overall rate of 13.33%, reflecting the sharper filter applied to non-US applicant pools.

YearOverall Acceptance RateInternational Acceptance RateTrend
2025-2613.33%7.73%Tightened
2023-2416.46%9.94%Baseline

The two-year drop reflects both a rising application volume and a stable seat count. International admits face steeper competition than the headline overall rate suggests.

Reality check: Indian applicants should benchmark against the 7.73% international rate, not the 13.33% overall figure. Strong quant scores (GRE 320+), CGPA 8.5/10+ and demonstrated research or industry work are the practical bar for MS Computer Science and MS Analytics admits.

Georgia Institute of Technology Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Georgia Tech’s 400-acre main campus sits in Midtown Atlanta, within walking distance of the North Avenue MARTA rail station and central Atlanta’s tech corridor.

  • Location and transport: Midtown Atlanta, 15 minutes by MARTA to downtown, 25 minutes to Hartsfield-Jackson airport
  • Housing: First-year undergraduates guaranteed on-campus housing; graduate students typically live off-campus in Midtown or Home Park at USD 800 to 1,400 per month
  • Notable facilities: Klaus Advanced Computing Building, Marcus Nanotechnology Building and the CULC (Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons) round-the-clock study space
  • Indian student community: Active India Club, Sangam cultural association and dedicated Indian graduate student networks across the College of Computing and College of Engineering

By Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026, Georgia Tech ranks #12 globally in Engineering, #26 in Computer Science and #26 in USA overall. QS subject leadership includes Mechanical Engineering #14, Electrical Engineering #14 and Data Science and AI #15.

Key insight: Georgia Tech’s headline QS rank has slipped from #97 (2024) to #142 (2027) due to methodology reweighting toward international faculty and sustainability, not academic decline. THE and subject-specific ranks remain robust and are the ranks Indian employers and Ivy-adjacent US recruiters actually reference.

Georgia Institute of Technology Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Georgia Tech graduates enter US technology and engineering employers at some of the highest rates and salaries among US public universities, with the MBA cohort landing consulting and product roles.

  • MS Computer Science median starting salary: USD 130,000 to 150,000 per year (INR 1.09 to 1.26 crore), market median
  • MBA Scheller median starting salary: USD 145,000 to 160,000 per year (INR 1.22 to 1.34 crore), market median
  • Top recruiter sectors: Cloud infrastructure, semiconductors, consulting, fintech, aerospace defence
  • Representative employers: Major US tech, consulting and semiconductor firms recruit on campus; specific recruiter lists not officially disclosed
  • Career support: Dedicated Career Center, MBA-only Jones MBA Career Center, and STEM OPT-eligibility for 24 additional months post-programme

Insider note: Indian MS Computer Science and MS Analytics graduates are highly targeted by US cloud, quant-finance and semiconductor recruiters. The Atlanta base gives access to Home Depot, Delta and NCR tech centres, alongside recruiter flights from Silicon Valley and Seattle.

Georgia Institute of Technology vs Peer Universities

Below is a peer comparison versus US public tech peers and one Indian benchmark on QS 2027 rank, Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 rank and average PG fee.

UniversityQS World 2027Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / INR lakh)Differentiator
Georgia Institute of Technology#142#49 GlobalUSD 53,000 / 44.5 lakhStrongest US public tech school in Southeast
Purdue UniversityNANAUSD 30,000 (estimated) / 25.2 lakhLower-cost STEM peer with strong CS reputation
University of Illinois Urbana-ChampaignNANAUSD 35,000 (estimated) / 29.4 lakhCS Top 5 US, more affordable PG tuition
Carnegie Mellon UniversityNANAUSD 60,000 (estimated) / 50.4 lakhHigher-priced private CS peer
IIT Bombay (Indian benchmark)#134NAINR 2 to 4 lakh15x cheaper; India-only placement network

Georgia Tech’s edge among US public peers is its Atlanta metro placement pipeline plus STEM OPT eligibility across every MS programme. Cost-per-outcome favours Georgia Tech over private CS peers, especially for OMSCS admits.

Georgia Institute of Technology suits the Indian applicant with CGPA 8.0/10+, quantitative aptitude and a clear technology or engineering career target. Total investment of INR 57 to 71 lakh maps to a median starting salary of INR 1.09 to 1.34 crore, delivering a payback horizon of 12 to 18 months on tuition alone. The F-1 visa route with 36 months of STEM OPT compounds this ROI heavily for MS and PhD paths.

Georgia Tech is not the fit for humanities, arts or pure liberal-studies applicants; its offerings there are thin by design. Applicants targeting those tracks should consider Emory University in the same Atlanta metro, which pairs a stronger humanities school with comparable US employer access.

Georgia Institute of Technology FAQs

Ques. Does Georgia Tech accept Duolingo English Test for graduate admissions?

Ans. Georgia Institute of Technology does not accept the Duolingo English Test for graduate admissions as of the 2027 intake cycle. Indian applicants must submit IELTS Academic overall 7.0 with the specified section minimums, or TOEFL iBT overall 90 with each section at least 19. PTE scores are not published as accepted. Applicants who completed their bachelor’s degree fully in English at a Georgia Tech-verified institution may qualify for an English proficiency waiver.

Ques. Is GRE required for MS Computer Science at Georgia Tech?

Ans. The MS Computer Science programme at Georgia Tech has moved to a GRE-optional policy for recent cycles, but most competitive Indian applicants still submit strong scores. A GRE Quantitative score above 165 and Verbal above 155 strengthens the file, especially given the 7.73% international acceptance rate. OMSCS (online) does not require GRE at all. Confirm the current cycle policy on the official College of Computing admissions page before applying.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Georgia Tech?

Ans. F-1 visa students at Georgia Institute of Technology can work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during academic sessions, and 40 hours per week during official breaks. Off-campus work requires Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorisation, typically available after two semesters. Most Indian graduate students take on-campus roles as Graduate Research Assistants or Graduate Teaching Assistants, which cover tuition plus a stipend of USD 2,000 to 2,800 per month.

Ques. What is the application fee for international students at Georgia Tech?

Ans. Georgia Tech charges USD 85 (INR 7,140) for international undergraduate applications via Common App and USD 105 (INR 8,820) for international graduate applications via GradApp. The MBA Scheller full-time application fee is USD 105 for international applicants. Fee waivers are not typically extended to international students; applicants facing genuine financial hardship should contact the admissions office directly with supporting documentation before submission.

Ques. Which Indian banks fund education loans for Georgia Tech admits?

Ans. Georgia Institute of Technology is recognised on the premier-list of virtually every Indian education lender given its US public flagship status. HDFC Credila, SBI Global Ed-Vantage, Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank offer collateral and non-collateral loans up to INR 75 lakh for Georgia Tech admits. Non-banking lenders like Prodigy Finance and MPOWER Financing extend USD-denominated loans without Indian collateral, typically at higher interest rates than Indian bank loans.

Ques. What are the dependent visa rules for Georgia Tech Indian students?

Ans. Spouses and unmarried children under 21 of Georgia Tech F-1 visa holders can apply for F-2 dependent visas. F-2 dependents cannot work in the United States but can study part-time at K-12 or vocational institutions. F-2 spouses seeking full-time study or work must convert to F-1 or another status independently. Financial proof for F-2 dependents adds approximately USD 8,000 to 10,000 per year per dependent to the I-20 sponsorship figure.

Ques. How does Georgia Tech verify Indian transcripts for admission?

Ans. Georgia Tech requires all Indian applicants to submit a course-by-course WES (World Education Services) evaluation of their bachelor’s transcript for graduate admission. The WES report must be sent directly to Georgia Tech via the WES portal. Processing takes four to seven weeks, so Indian applicants should initiate WES at least two months before the programme deadline. Undergraduate applicants submit official Class 12 mark sheets directly through Common App without WES.

Ques. What is OPT and how does Georgia Tech support Indian students on it?

Ans. Optional Practical Training (OPT) allows F-1 graduates to work in the United States for 12 months after degree completion. Every MS programme at Georgia Institute of Technology qualifies as STEM-designated, extending OPT eligibility by an additional 24 months for a total of 36 months. The Georgia Tech Office of International Education files OPT paperwork with USCIS. Indian graduates typically use this window to secure H-1B sponsorship, which most major US tech recruiters at Georgia Tech routinely provide.

  • There are a lot of clubs and events on campus that you can be a part of and get great experience and free food at the same time. You can also join them to be a part of the board and help arrange these events to make a good experience for people coming to them. Best part is the free food you get and the people you get to meet from different backgrounds and nationalities.

Fees

  • Fees are about 32000 per year for 11 credits and over. Living expenses can be around 1000 per month plus food and transportation. Food costs around 200-300. Transportation could depend on your lifestyle.
  • Other regular expenses are also a personal thing and can depend but expect around 55000 a year, including everything. There are other costs that can take it higher.

  • The main campus is in Atlanta only; there is one other campus in China and some other partner programs in Europe.
  • We have all major facilities available: a large gymnasium with swimming pool, football grounds, squash, tennis, and badminton courts; a dedicated health centre with medical and dental facilities; three libraries with quiet spaces; and grad lounges.
  • We have a major hackathon event that takes place here at GT and a grand welcome celebration week for freshmen.
  • The Indian students club is quite active and hosts events on Diwali, Ganpati, New Years, etc. and has stalls, food and performances
  • The major extracurricular activities are the football leagues that attract a lot of attention; other sports like basketball and volleyball matches are also very regular and lot of colleges compete in them.

Fees

  • Tuition: approx. 16,000 USD per semester
  • Insurance and other college amenities: approx. 1500 USD per semester
  • Fee is paid sem-wise; usually there are 4 semesters for the course
  • It is required to register for a minimum of 12 credits (4 courses) every semester.
  • Avg rents: 650-1000 USD ( ranging from sharing to non-sharing)
  • Average monthly living expense ( with food and utilities and for single room): approx. 1200 USD

  • Its a 400 acre open campus. So counting how many campus the college have isn't easy.
  • It's one big connected campus through the Georgia Tech Bus services.
  • Few facilities are always available in the campus as it provides stay for the faculty in the campus.
  • Almost all the major festivals through out the world is celebrated in the campus. One just needs to be aware of that.
  • There several communities one can join to know about all these. Or follow all the pages related to Georgia tech to know what, when and where the festivals are being celebrated.
  • Georgia tech excel in sports we have CRC for everyone to go there and practice whatever sport one would like to play.

Fees

  • Every course has different fee structure, but for Masters in Computer Science.
  • I could say that each semester is capped at 12 credit hours, costing approximately $17,400, with each credit hour priced at around $1,400.
  • Health insurance costs an additional ~$1,200 per semester. Monthly living expenses are approximately $1,500 for individual student housing but can be reduced to $900-$1,000 if sharing a room, making it more affordable.

Overview

Georgia Tech is the 2nd best public school in the US for Chemical Engineering. But this is not the only reason to choose Gatech, there were several factors and a lot of research behind it. I also got admitted to some of the best universities. I created a preference matrix that helped me to choose the best one and Gatech stood out as the the best out of that. My initial experience was tough because the course was rigorous and it was not easy to cop up with all the stuff at once after landing in this company. But now it's pretty good as I am used to and have a lot to learn.

Overview

"I had to submit 3 LoRs, SoP and CV. Key points for SoP: 1. Should be a coherent story with the following points. 2. Why I chose ECE? 3. Why you chose this area? 4. Choice of advisors with reasons 5. Why I chose this university? CV: Mentioned research project/publications in detail. Mentioned other important projects." Based on my advisor's research. Also, ECE program at Georgia Tech is one of the best programs in US for research. The overall experience is excellent.

Public university with heavy funding and 2nd ranked for the course of Cybersecurity makes it the best school to study without incubating heavy loans The experience was the best uplift my life could ever get at this young age, I have graduated with high paying job, abundance of knowledge and experience with a very low tuition loans. What else do you need?

Overview

My overall experience at Georgia Tech is academically challenging but educating. There’s so many clubs to make friends and the campus is so beautiful to relax in the nature while also having modern and high tech features in the library. Georgia Tech is an amazing school and would highly recommend for people who are academically gifted and want great job placements too.

There are so many extracurricular clubs! Lots of different diverse clubs like Asian American club and also sports club like volleyball and badminton which are fun. The library is very new and has two cafes in it with quiet floors too. The Wi-Fi isn’t slow but sometimes it disconnects but it’s still great.

GT is a big name, especially in the south. The department is relatively new, extremely knowledgeable, really cohesive and extremely supportive. They gave me the best funding.

Fees

Yes, it is possible to do an MS program in Computer Science abroad after a 3-year bachelor's degree. Check university requirements and subject requirements for the program. Most universities in USA or Canada allow a 3 years bachelor's degree. You may also try Germany, Australia, the UK, and other European universities. Few universities gauge your application holistically and can consider you for the course.
