University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Admission 2027
UCLA admission runs on a single primary Fall intake for most graduate programmes and one Fall undergraduate cycle through the UC application system. Winter and Spring admissions exist only in a small set of graduate departments, so Indian applicants plan around the November-December window.
UCLA Admission Dates 2027 (Graduate)
Graduate departments set their own deadlines within the university’s admissions calendar. The table below lists the standard graduate cycle for Fall 2027 entry, verified from grad.ucla.edu.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Graduate application opens | September 2026 | Fall 2027 entry cycle |

| Credential verification (WES) | Begin 8-10 weeks before deadline | WES ICAP recommended for Indian bachelor’s transcripts |
| Admission decisions | February to April 2027 | Rolling release by department |
| Fall quarter start | Late September 2027 | Orientation for international students precedes classes |
UCLA UG Admission Dates 2027 (Undergraduate)
Undergraduate applications route through the UC common application at applyucsupport.net, and dates below follow the standard UC filing pattern used for prior cycles.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| UC application opens | Expected August 1, 2026 (based on prior UC cycle) | Single application covers all UC campuses |

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
UCLA sets a common baseline of academic and English-language thresholds for Indian applicants, with departments adding programme-specific tests such as GRE and GMAT.
Postgraduate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree: Four-year Indian bachelor’s degree with minimum 65% or CGPA 7.0/10 (recommended) from a UGC-recognised university; three-year bachelor’s is accepted for select departments
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 87 (0-120 legacy scale, exams before 21 January 2026) or 4.5 (1-6 band scale, exams on/after 21 January 2026); IELTS Academic 7.0 overall
- Credential verification: Uploaded transcripts at application; official mark sheets and consolidated grade sheet on admission; WES ICAP recommended for Indian bachelor’s degrees
- Standardised tests: GRE required for MS Financial Engineering and most PhD programmes; GMAT required for Anderson MBA; both waived for select professional MS tracks
Undergraduate Requirements
- Class 12 record: CBSE, ICSE or state board Class 12 with 80% to 90% (recommended); no mark below 60% in required subjects
- English proficiency: IELTS Academic 7.5 overall; TOEFL iBT 100 (0-120 legacy scale) or 5 (1-6 band scale for exams on/after 21 January 2026); waived if all secondary schooling was in English
Key insight: The 21 January 2026 TOEFL scale change means Indian applicants sitting the test through 2026 receive both the 0-120 and 1-6 scores on their report; UCLA accepts either during the transition and only the more recent score counts if you retest.
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Acceptance Rate 2027
UCLA received more than 140,000 applications and admitted approximately 13,000 students for Fall 2024, producing an official overall acceptance rate of 9%. The rate is among the lowest of any US public university and has held in the 9% to 11% band for four consecutive cycles.
| Cycle | Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| Fall 2024 | 9% (official) | Down from prior year |
| Fall 2023 | 9% (official) | Stable |
| Fall 2022 | 11% (official) | Down from Fall 2021 |
The international acceptance rate is measurably lower and estimated at 4% to 6% for Indian applicants, driven by California-resident priority at the undergraduate level. Anderson MBA and Samueli MS Computer Science remain the most competitive tracks for Indian applicants.
Reality check: UCLA prioritises California residents at the undergraduate level, so Indian applicants should treat UCLA as a reach and apply to two or three UC campuses in parallel through the same application.

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Campus, Facilities and Student Life
UCLA occupies a 419-acre residential campus in Westwood, five miles from the Pacific coast, with the LAX airport a 40-minute transit ride away and downtown Los Angeles a 25-minute Metro trip.
- Location and transit: Westwood is central to LA’s tech, entertainment and biotech corridors; the BruinBus network and Metro D Line (opening 2027) serve most student neighbourhoods
- Housing: UCLA guarantees four years of on-campus housing to first-year undergraduates and offers international students a one-year on-campus option at USD 1,500 to 2,000 per month
- Facilities: 12 libraries including the Charles E. Young Research Library, plus Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, one of the top hospitals in the US
- Indian student community: Indian Student Union, Association of Indian Students at UCLA, and cultural societies host Diwali, Holi and Independence Day events on campus
What Indian students say: The Westwood grocery scene covers South Asian pantry needs well through Trader Joe’s, Ralph’s and India Sweets and Spices; Indian food options within walking distance are limited so most students cook at home for value. Campus safety in Westwood is materially better than nearby off-campus zones after dark.
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Scholarships 2027
UCLA offers a limited set of merit fellowships to graduate students, with most awards routed through departmental nomination rather than direct application. External funding through Indian government schemes and third-party agencies covers the majority of Indian graduate scholarship pathways.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eugene V. Cota-Robles Fellowship | Merit fellowship (diversity) | Multi-year stipend and full tuition (verify at grad.ucla.edu) | Entering PhD students; departmental nomination | December 1, 2026 (nomination) |
| Graduate Research Mentorship (GRM) | Research stipend | Verify at grad.ucla.edu/funding | Continuing PhD students | Departmental nomination cycle |
| Graduate Summer Research Mentorship (GSRM) | Summer stipend | Verify at grad.ucla.edu/funding | Continuing PhD students; summer research | Spring 2027 (verify) |
| Chancellor’s Prize | Merit fellowship | Verify at grad.ucla.edu | Top admitted PhD and MFA applicants; auto-considered | Auto-considered on graduate application |
| Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship | External government (India) | Full tuition and stipend | Indian nationals with 55% in bachelor’s; via USIEF | Mid-May 2026 (India cycle) |
Planning note: UCLA does not offer need-based financial aid to international undergraduate applicants, so Indian UG students should assume the full USD 48,674 tuition plus living costs; graduate applicants must apply through departmental nomination rather than a separate scholarship application to be considered for Cota-Robles and Chancellor’s Prize.

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
UCLA graduates achieve strong employment outcomes led by Anderson MBA, Samueli Engineering and the College of Letters and Science, with median starting salaries well above US public university medians.
- Anderson MBA median starting salary: USD 175,000 (INR 166.93 lakh) per year (Class of 2024, per Anderson employment report)
- Samueli Engineering MS median starting salary: USD 120,000 to 140,000 (INR 114.47 to 133.55 lakh, market median for LA tech)
- Employment within six months (Anderson MBA): 92% of the graduating class (Class of 2024)
- Top recruiter sectors: Technology (Google, Meta, Amazon), consulting (McKinsey, BCG, Deloitte), entertainment (Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros), finance (Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan); labelled as representative employers per Anderson placement report
- Career services: Anderson Parker Career Management Center and UCLA Career Center offer year-round advising, LA employer treks, and India-specific alumni sessions
- Post-study work: 12-month OPT for most graduates; 36-month OPT extension for STEM-designated MS and PhD tracks
Insider note: Indian STEM graduates cluster at Google, Meta, Amazon and TikTok in Los Angeles and the Bay Area; MBA Indian graduates route heavily into consulting and product management roles, with a smaller cohort returning to India for corporate strategy positions.
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) vs Peer Universities
UCLA sits in a competitive set with two other California research universities and one Big Ten peer that Indian applicants routinely cross-apply.
| University | Location | Public or Private | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD/INR lakh) | One-line Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UCLA | Los Angeles, CA | Public (UC) | USD 36,297 / 34.62 lakh | Largest applicant pool in US; #1 US public university |
| UC Berkeley | Berkeley, CA | Public (UC) | USD 34,000 to 40,000 / 32.43 lakh to 38.16 lakh (estimated) | Sister UC campus; stronger in Engineering and Computer Science by QS Subject |
| USC | Los Angeles, CA | Private | USD 50,000 to 70,000 / 47.70 lakh to 66.77 lakh (estimated) | Los Angeles-based private; stronger MBA and film programmes |
| University of Michigan Ann Arbor | Ann Arbor, MI | Public | USD 55,000 to 65,000 / 52.46 lakh to 62.00 lakh (estimated) | Larger STEM cohort; established Big Ten alumni network |
UCLA stands out for two reasons: the US News #11 Global rank paired with a public-university tuition band, and the placement network across LA’s technology, entertainment and biotech clusters that private peers cannot match on scale.
University of California, Los Angeles is the right fit for Indian applicants targeting the top tier of US public universities who can absorb a USD 62,000 to 90,000 annual investment (INR 59.14 to 85.85 lakh) against an Anderson MBA median of USD 175,000. The strongest India-specific advantage is the 36-month STEM OPT extension paired with LA’s tech and entertainment recruiting depth per the MS in USA guide.
UCLA is not the right pick for Indian undergraduate applicants seeking financial aid or a below-median tuition, since UCLA offers zero institutional aid to international UG students. Applicants in that position should evaluate a private aid-generous alternative such as USC, which offers merit scholarships to international undergraduate applicants.

- UCLA is number one public university, it was my top choice and my goal is to go to an Ivy League law school and UCLA is just a stepping stone for me to get there
Overview
Overall experience, I would say is overwhelming but rewarding. It’s definitely a lot of pressure but if you work well under stress, it’ll be a breeze for you!
Campus Life
Campus life is great, there are many opportunities but your academics take a lot of time and energy so you might not be able to take part in extracurriculars but they are available for you to enjoy and explore.

- I was intrigued by the facilities and the history of the school.
Overview
I've learnt a lot academically, practically and morally. At first it was difficult to adjust to the western system but the friends I had and the staff made it easy for me to get so used to the system.
Campus Life
Campus life is cool, follow the rules and you don't have to deal with any problem, there are quite a number of good infrastructure in the school, the environment is clean, a lot of extracurricular activities like dance club, basketball, tennis, football. Research and library is opened for over 14hrs.
Overview
UCLA is the number 1 public university in the United States. It has a beautiful campus with an extremely diverse faculty and student body. The university's location in California is a great bonus for students like me hoping to start a career in tech due to its proximity to the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. The university has a vast, well-connected alumni network and provides tremendous opportunities to learn and grow via clubs, events, and career growth opportunities. The campus community is also as incredibly warm and welcoming as the weather in Los Angeles. I could not recommend UCLA highly enough.
Fees
Tuition Fees (International student): USD 43000; Total Budgets: Approximately USD 62000 a year including tuition, accommodation, transportation, food, and educational materials.
Overview
Job prospects, Location, Curriculum, Had multiple professors who were doing things I was interested in.
Fees
Tuition - USD 45,000. Rent - About USD 10,000. Expenses- USD 3000.
Overview
I got to know about this college because I live in the same state, and it's very well known to everyone. the admission process wasn't too difficult because I just had to fill out the UC applications and include my grades, extracurriculars, and supporting essays. the application fee was $80 for this particular campus, and I applied to 6 colleges including this one. I chose to go here because I love the environment, location, and overall happiness of the campus as well as its good reputation. my academic background was good because I was in the top 10% of my graduating class, graduated with highest honors, and had extracurriculars and volunteer experience.
Fees
Tuition is around $13-14,000 a year. I did not get a loan. I did not get any scholarship, but i know there are many opportunities, especially for people needing financial aid. for international applicants, you can look on the school's scholarship page to see which ones you are eligible for, but there are a good number of ones to choose from.
Overview
I opted for this college for its prestige and popularity. It was also in the top 5 of the nation and #1 in the United States. I was also able to apply for free and it was not far from home at the time.
Fees
They charged a lot for things that not everyone used. For example, not everyone goes to the gym but everyone gets charged for it. Even worse, we get charged for sports and other events that not everyone is able to go because they are on a raffle basis.
Overview
One of the worlds best universities. Great location with ethnicity not being the overriding factor in all things Bruin. School and classroom size manageable and equipped. Beautiful architecture and grounds are very conducive to the learning process.
Fees
My total cost was in the $75,000 to $80,000 USD. It is now $40,000 to $50,000 USD higher. Within the current structure of educational costs throughout the US, however, not without precedence.
