JEE Advanced 2027 eligibility requires you to secure a place in the top 2,50,000 category-wise ranks in JEE Main 2027 Paper 1, be born on or after October 1, 2002 (General/OBC-NCL/EWS), and have no more than two JEE Advanced attempts in consecutive years.

JEE Advanced 2027 is expected to be conducted by an IIT in May 2027. You must meet five eligibility conditions set by the organising IIT. Failing even one condition makes you ineligible — so check each criteria carefully before filling the application form.

  • JEE Main 2027 rank: You must figure in the top 2,50,000 category-wise ranks in JEE Main 2027 Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.).
  • Age limit: General, EWS, and OBC-NCL students must be born on or after October 1, 2002; SC, ST, and PwD students must be born on or after October 1, 1997 (5-year relaxation).
  • Number of attempts: Maximum two attempts in two consecutive years.
  • Class 12 year: Your first Class 12 attempt must be in 2026 or 2027, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • No prior IIT admission: You must not have been admitted to any IIT before (with limited exceptions).

JEE Advanced 2027 Age Limit

The age limit for JEE Advanced 2027 is based on your date of birth. General, EWS, and OBC-NCL students must be born on or after October 1, 2002. SC, ST, and PwD students receive a five-year relaxation and must be born on or after October 1, 1997. Students born before these dates are not eligible regardless of their JEE Main rank.

Category Date of Birth (Born on or after)
General / EWS / OBC-NCL October 1, 2002
SC / ST / PwD October 1, 1997

The age cutoff advances by one year with each JEE Advanced cycle. For JEE Advanced 2026, the General category cutoff was October 1, 2001. The 2027 cycle shifts this to October 1, 2002 based on the same pattern. The official notice from the organising IIT on jeeadv.ac.in will confirm this.

JEE Main 2027 Qualifying Rank for JEE Advanced

You must be among the top 2,50,000 students in the JEE Main 2027 Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) category-wise rank list to qualify for JEE Advanced 2027. This total includes all categories — General (CRL), EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD. Students who qualify in multiple categories are counted only once toward this total.

Based on JEE Main 2026 trends, the expected category-wise breakup for the top 2,50,000 shortlist is:

Category Expected Shortlisted Students (Based on 2026 Trends)
General (CRL) ~96,238
EWS ~11,858
OBC-NCL ~64,750
SC ~32,062
ST ~16,062
PwD (across all categories) ~2,500
Total ~2,50,000

The exact category-wise JEE Main 2027 cutoff ranks and percentiles will be published by NTA after JEE Main 2027 results are declared. You must specifically appear in JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) — Paper 2 scores (B.Arch./B.Planning.) do not count toward JEE Advanced eligibility.

Number of Attempts Allowed in JEE Advanced

You can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times, and these two attempts must be in two consecutive years. If your first attempt is in 2027, your second and final attempt can only be in 2028. Gap years are not allowed — you cannot skip a year and return later.

Parameter Rule
Maximum Attempts 2 (Two)
Attempt Pattern Consecutive years only
Gap Year Allowed Between Attempts No
Counted if You Register but Do Not Appear No — only actual appearances are counted

If you appeared in JEE Advanced 2026 for the first time, JEE Advanced 2027 will be your final eligible attempt. Students who have already used both attempts are not eligible regardless of their JEE Main 2027 rank.

Class 12 Examination Requirement

Your first attempt at the Class 12 (or equivalent board) examination must be in 2026 or 2027. Students who appeared in Class 12 for the first time in 2025 or earlier are not eligible for JEE Advanced 2027. This rule applies to your first attempt — improvement exam years are not counted separately.

Condition Requirement
First Class 12 Attempt Year 2026 or 2027
Compulsory Subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
Number of Subjects Minimum 5 subjects (as per most boards)
Minimum Class 12 Marks for JEE Advanced Registration No minimum percentage required for registration
Minimum Class 12 Marks for IIT Admission 75% aggregate or top 20 percentile of your board

Note that while no minimum percentage in Class 12 is needed to register for JEE Advanced, IIT seat admission requires either 75% aggregate marks or a score within the top 20 percentile of your respective board (5% relaxation for SC/ST/PwD).

Additional Eligibility Conditions

Two more conditions apply alongside age, attempts, rank, and Class 12:

No prior IIT admission: You must not have been admitted to any IIT in any previous year. However, you remain eligible if you were allotted an IIT seat but withdrew before the final round of JoSAA seat allotment and never reported to the institute. Students who accepted a seat and joined an IIT are permanently ineligible.

Nationality: Indian nationals can apply. OCI and PIO cardholders and foreign nationals may apply under conditions specified by the organising IIT each year.

Condition Detail
Prior IIT Admission Not eligible (exception: withdrew before final JoSAA round)
Nationality Indian nationals, OCI and PIO cardholders
JEE Main Paper Required Paper 1 — B.E./B.Tech. only
