JEE Advanced Counselling & Seat Allotment by JoSAA

JEE Advanced Counselling 2019: The counselling and seat allotment procedure will be made available by JoSAA through Seat Allotment Procedure. All the candidates who are eligible for admission will have to participate in the joint seat allocation process by filling in their choices of the courses. Around 97 institutes participate in Joint Seat Allocation Authority Counselling.

The list of courses that will be offered by the IITs for admission for the academic year 2019-20 will be made available at the time of online filling-in of choices. JEE Advanced Counselling will be conducted completely in online mode after the declaration of result. No intimation about the allotted college will be sent by e-mail/SMS or post.

  • This year, JEE Advanced 2019 is scheduled for May 19, 2019 in computer based mode.
  • The online registration for JoSAA Counselling will begin from June 2019.
  • Seat allotment process will end on July 15, 2019 (tentatively).
  • Candidates who qualify JEE Main and Advanced are eligible to participate in JoSAA.
  • The counselling will be conducted in 7 rounds which may vary depending on the availability of seats.
  • Candidates must be among top 20 toppers in Class XII or with 75% aggregate marks (65% for reserved categories) in qualifying examination or candidates with minimum cut off marks are eligible to apply for counselling.

There are a 23 IITs which offer 10988 seats in total. 5394 seats are allotted to general category candidates which are the highest followed by OBC-NCL candidates who are allotted 2870 seats. Candidates applying for JoSAA Counselling for admission to IITs have to report at the allotted center for document verification. Changes in JEE Advanced Seat Allotment Process

  • Eligible candidates can withdraw their seats in any of the counselling rounds except the last round.
  • The introduction of seat withdrawal option by the JoSAA officials will be significant in reduction of the number of unfilled seats at IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

JEE Advanced 2019 Counselling Schedule

JEE Advanced is conducted for admission to 4-year B.Tech program or 5-year Integrated B.Tech courses in various streams at various IITs across India. Given below is the tentative counselling schedule to apply for the admission to different IITs:

JEE Advanced Result

The result for JEE Advanced is going to be declared in the month of June 2019 on the official website of JEE Advanced. Candidates can check their result by entering their JEE Advanced 2019 roll number, date of birth and security key. JEE Advanced Result will contain the All India Rank (AIR) and Category Rank of successful candidates.

Candidates need to secure minimum prescribed marks in each subject and in aggregate to appear in the JEE Advanced 2019 Merit list. The category wise minimum cut of marks list is mentioned below in the table for reference of all the candidates.

Eligibility for JEE Advanced Counselling

Candidates who qualify in JEE Advanced only will be allowed to participate in JEE Advanced 2019 Counselling for admission to various UG courses offered by IITs. However, these candidates should fulfill the following eligibility criteria to take part in the counselling and seat allotment process.

  1. Candidates should have obtained a good rank in Common Rank List in IIT Advanced.
  2. The aggregate in the qualifying examination should not be less than 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) for the candidates. In case of percentile, the candidate should be among top 20 successful toppers.
  3. The aggregate marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Language (Language paper in which candidates have scored higher marks will be taken into consideration) will be calculating the aggregate in qualifying examination. If any of these are not evaluated during the final year, (for eg. Three-year diploma courses) the marks of the previous year will be taken into consideration.
  4. Candidates who have failed in one or more than one subject in the qualifying exam should appear for the exam in 2016 and clear it in this attempt.
  5. In cases where the qualifying board offers only letter grades, the candidates are required to procure a letter from the board indicating the aggregate marks of the candidate. Otherwise, the decision in such matter will be taken by the Joint Implementation Committee of JEE Advanced 2016. The decision of committee would be final and no request for any review would be considered.
  6. The marks of Class 12th would be considered only, in case, the board provides the marks for both Class 11th and 12th in the qualifying examination. If the board provides only the aggregate marks for qualifying examination, then the aggregate marks will be considered for evaluation.

Note: Candidates including foreign nationals will have to abide by the above-mentioned criteria

    JEE Advanced Counselling Process

    Counselling and seat allotment process for JEE Advanced will begin from June 2019. The first round of seat allocation will be held on June 29, 2019 (tentative). The counselling process can be broadly divided into following steps:

    • Registration for JEE Advanced 2019 Counselling
    • Candidates need to fill choices online and lock them
    • Allotment of seats
    • Reporting to Allotted colleges
    • Granting Provisional Admission for to candidates

    The seat allotment process would be conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA) which was formed in 2015 by the collaboration of Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) and Joint Admission Board (JAB) for conducting seat allocation procedure for the academic programs offered by IITs/ NITs/ ISM/ IIITs and other GFTIs for the academic year 2019-19.

    Candidates should go through all the steps of JEE Advanced 2019 Counselling process, discussed below in detail.

    JEE Advanced Registration for Counselling

    Candidates are first required to register online for JEE Advanced 2019 Counselling after fourth week of June, 2019. Candidates need to enter personal details such as JEE Advanced Application number and roll number, DOB and create new User ID and password.

    Filling-in and Locking of Choices

    Candidates will have to fill up their choices by logging in using their Registration No (User ID), Roll No and Password to fill their choices as per branch, course and institute preference. They are permitted to change, edit, delete or add new choices until finalizing their choices. Candidates must lock their final choices before the due dates failing which leads to choices are locked automatically.

    Applicants can select a maximum of 50 choices during online locking of choices. They are advised to take a print out of their finally submitted choices.


    1. Fitness Criteria required to be fulfilled by students for Mining and Petroleum Engineering:

    Candidates planning to apply for Mining and Mining Machinery Engineering and related courses must fulfill additional fitness criteria as mentioned below:

    • These students should be free from color blindness and the standard of visual acuity with or without glasses should be as per DGMS circular (the distant vision of eye with or without glasses should be not less than 6/6 and 6/9 for worse eye)
    • Candidates applying for Petroleum engineering and related courses as well as those seeking admission in M.Sc. / M. Tech. in Applied Geology must be free from clause of color blindness also.
    1. Special Eligibility for Female candidates in Mining Engineering Courses
    • ISM Dhanbad does not admit female students in Mining Engineering, Mining Machinery Engineering and any of the related courses.
    • Female candidates are however, eligible for admission in Mining Engineering at IIT Kharagpur and IIT (BHU) Varanasi, provided they fulfill the special medical requirements.
    • The female candidates as per Section 46 (1) of the Mines Act, 1952, are not permitted to work in mines below ground. They are allowed to work only between 6 AM to 7 PM on mines above ground level.
    1. Admission to Architecture Courses in IITs
    • Candidates seeking admission in Architecture courses at the IITs should appear and pass the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) conducted at the seven Zonal IITs. The test will be conducted on June 19, 2019. (Tentative)
    • Candidates are required to choose B. Arch. at IIT Kharagpur or IIT Roorkee during online choice filling in counselling and appear for AAT 2019 also. JEE Advanced 2019 Admit Card issued would be required to appear for Architecture Aptitude Test.
    • Candidates would be however considered for admission, solely on the basis of JEE Advanced AIR and category rank of candidate.

    JEE Advanced Online Seat Allotment

    The JEE Advanced 2019 seat allotment would be conducted on the basis of All India Rank (AIR) secured by the candidates in JEE Advancedand the choices filled by them during choice filling and locking. Seat allotment for qualified students has been divided into three categories namely,

    1. On the basis of Date of Birth (DOB)
    2. Nationality
    3. Percentage of disability

    How to check status for seat allotment?

    The candidates can follow the steps mentioned below to check the status of seat allotment during JEE Advanced 2019 Counselling. The opening and closing ranks for all the categories would vary. Hence, the candidates securing higher in their respective categories will be allotted seats accordingly.

    • Log in using the Registration No (User ID), JEE Advanced 2019 Roll No and Password to check their seat allotment status.
    • Students should check their status of Seat Allotment at the end of every round.
    • Allotments might change due to up gradation. Hence, students should pay attention regarding this.
    • The soft copy of the category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) certificates uploaded at the time of online registration will be scrutinized against originals during seat allocation
    • If the certificates uploaded are found to be inappropriate, the student will be treated as General only, if their score in the Paper-1 of JEE Main is above the cutoff score for General category.

    Note: The seat allocation in JEE Advanced 2019 Counselling would be completed within three rounds. All the candidates are therefore advised to check the status after the completion of ever round, as there is a possibility that the seats allotted to them are upgraded because other students have either withdrawn from the course or have accepted seats they prefer.

    Reporting for JEE Advanced 2019 Seat Allotment

    Candidates are required to report to the Zonal IIT after the seats are allotted to them. All the candidates should be present in person for verification of documents and payment of admission fee. The registration fee for General and reserved categories is mentioned below.

    Some of the important points for reporting to allotted centers for taking provisional admission are mentioned below. Candidates who don’t report to the Zonal IIT before the stipulated deadline will not be considered for seat allotment and their seats will be automatically forfeited. In case, the applicants are offered an up gradation, they will have to forfeit the seat allotted to them earlier in order to accept the upgraded seat.

    • Candidates can pay the fee through any of the acceptable modes such as internet banking, credit card/debit card or payment in the nearest branch
    • They need to upload a Declaration on acceptance form, after signing it themselves and by their parents. This form states that the student is eligible for admission as per the 'Top 20 Percentile Cut off Marks of their respective Board in their respective categories for the year of passing of qualifying examination’.
    • All the applicants should also upload the scanned copy of marks sheet of 10 + 2.
    • Candidates allotted seats in any of the three rounds should report to the respective institutes on the specified date and time.

    Provisional Admission

    The institutes will issue a final allotment letter and grant provisional admission to candidates after verifying the documents and the fee is paid by the candidate. Candidates who fail to meet any eligibility criteria or are caught providing false information/documents will be debarred from the counselling process and their admission would be immediately deemed cancelled.

    Documents Required for Provisional Admission

    Students are required to submit original documents along with one attested photocopy during verification for taking provisional admission.

    • JEE Advanced 2019 Original Admit Card
    • JEE Advanced 2019 Seat Allotment Letter from JOCSAP website
    • JEE Advanced Application Form (duly filled)
    • Duly filled medical examination report
    • Birth Proof — Class Xth /HSC/Birth Certificate/Any other certificate as proof of data of birth
    • Class 12th or Equivalent Examination Mark sheet and Passing Certificate
    • Category Certificate (OBC (NCL)/SC/ST/PwD/DS) issued by competent authority as per the format in the JEE Advanced 2019 Brochure
    • Criteria for Foreign National students — Attested photocopy of the page in the passport comprising the name, photo and nationality.
    • DD towards the registration fee. It would be later adjusted towards the tuition fee, to be paid at the time of admission.
