Ques. Which one is better for B.A (Hons.) in political science: Hindu College, University of Delhi, or St. Xavier's Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Sahil Sachdeva on 20 Oct 20

Ans. St. Xavier's College is one of the prestigious colleges of Kolkata. This higher education institute has secured 7th position in the NIRF ranking, 2020. Hindu College ranked at 3 in the NIRF all India ranking 2020. Hindu college is accredited by NAAC with an A+ grade, and SXC is accredited by A++ grade. Admission: SXC: The required eligibility is +2 and the selection to the program is based on merit. English must be a compulsory subject at the +2 level. Applicants are selected based on the index calculated with their +2 marks. The index is calculated as the sum of the percentage in English and aggregate percentage. There should be a minimum of 60% in aggregate subjects. 1st-year fee for BA (Hons.) in Political Science is Rs.32,600. Hindu College: Admissions to UG courses are entrance based or merit-based. The applicants should have a minimum of 60% in their +2 under a recognized board/university. Students should have passed in each subject individually, including the practicals. According to 2019, the cut off required for BA (Hons.) is 99%. 1st-year fee for BA (Hons.) in Political Science is Rs.17,560. Placement Statistics: SXC: The placement cell enables the students to explore and utilize opportunities provided by different companies. Tata Consultancy Services, Deloitte, KPMG, Ernst & Young, PWC, JP Morgan, Google, Zomato, United bank of Switzerland, Verity Solutions, Axis Bank, Citi Bank, ICICI Bank, HSBC, HDFC Bank, Infosys, etc. are the regular recruiter companies. Hindu College: The college has two cells namely “Disha”- The placement cell, and “Abhyas”- The internship cell to provide better career exposure to the students. The college holds 95% of the total placement record. Top recruiters are Google, Deloitte, HDFC, KPMG, Maruti, Jaypee, Ernst and Young, Protiviti, DE Shaw, Essar, and Royal Sundaram Alliance, among many others. Companies like Design Karkhana, Philip Morris International, Indiabulls, Teach for India, Make a Difference, Empower India, Outlook India, Youth Alliance, Thilo, etc. offer paid internships to the students. Ques. Which is better for a B.Sc (hons.) in chemistry, St. Stephens College or Hindu College? Please answer with reference to fee structures and teacher

● Top Answer By Sayantani Barman on 14 Aug 20

Ans. Below given table shows a comparison between the two of the best colleges under Delhi University to pursue B. Sc (Hons.) in Chemistry. ST. STEPHENS HINDU NIRF RANKING #1 #3 TOTAL FEES (APPROX.) 1.2 LACS 55K ACCREDITED NAAC ‘A’ GRADE NAAC ‘A+’ GRADE Academics: According to previous year, the cut off for admission to Hindu college for B. Sc (hons.) in Chemistry was 96.66% and in St. Stephen's it was 92%. The faculty contingency in both the colleges is very well reputed, dedicated and felicitated having won many recognitions to their name. It is not justified to distinguish between the teachers as all are almost at par with academic qualifications, achievements but are restricted by curriculum and different teaching patterns. Both the colleges organize national conferences and workshops for the holistic development of the students and to gain industry exposure. Placement Opportunities: The key feature which sets Stephen's apart is that when it comes to applying abroad for higher studies or internships or fellowship programmes, a lot of graduates have had the opportunity to do so owing to the scholarships and collaborations with foreign universities like Oxford, Yale and Cambridge. It has a more disciplined and rigorous and calm aura about itself not being as actively a part of the very famous DU fests as compared to other colleges. There are many ongoing research projects funded by SERB and UGC. Top recruiters being Hetero drugs, Emami, Homi Bhaba Centre for Science Education, BCG etc. offering a median salary of around 9LPA. In the Hindu college, the median salary package for B. Sc in Chemistry at offer was 5LPA and average placement rate was low as most of the graduates sought to opt for higher studies. The top recruiters were DE Shaw, KPMG, IndiaBulls amongst others. Organizations like Empower India, Philip Morris International, Outlook rolled out internship opportunities too.Read more

Course Curriculum Overview :

Since school, economics has been my favourite subject and I was sure about building my career in this field. The student-faculty ratio is 70:10. The faculty is amazing. Teachers are very well educated, knowledgeable and helpful as well. They are always open to discussions and solving your doubts. Term exams are held in December and May. The difficulty level is average. Students need to be thorough with their concepts in order to pass with good marks.

The course appealed to me as it was very insightful and interesting. The student-to-teacher ratio was about 1:25. Teachers were very qualified and almost all of them were having at least one PhD exams were of course timely as they were held by the university, but most importantly even the internals was on time.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose B.Com. Honours due to the versatility and the subjects that are being taught in it. Most of it is on Accountancy Major. And, I wanted to pursue Chartered Accountancy. So, I thought that B.Com. Honours would be the perfect subject for me. The student ratio is approximate 60:30. The faculty is really nice. Atul sir, Divya Ma'am, Amit sir, Kanika Ma'am, Annu ma'am. All of them are just wonderful. They're the best teachers of all. The teaching method of all the teachers is amplifying and helps us understand things in a better way. They're trying their best in these hard times. The term exams were pretty good but the paper was quite difficult. And, the results are yet to come so I guess I can't say if I would pass or fail.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose to do BA ECONOMICS HONS. because it makes you learn how our economy works and gives you practical insights into the working an economy which I believe is a must for us to know and go deep into it. That's what really motivated to pursue this course. For a class of 150 students, 6-7 faculty members are there which I think is enough for this class size where we are given individual attention for doubts in tutorials. Most of the professors are PhD. qualified here. There are internal exams which makes you revise all the concepts you have studied so far. They are quite easy when you are complete with your preparation.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I choosed Botany Hons. because I have an interest in plant study. So I choosed it for my further studies. Teachers are very and they always help us whenever we stuck in the chapters. They are all well qualified and their teaching methods are also good. Many young teachers are not that determined but the experienced teachers are very helping and caring. All the teachers are very supportive. There are six semesters in bachelor degree. Each semester exam is of equal importance. As the final report card goona be made on the basis of all the semester examination marks. exams are not that tough if you concentrate on your classes rather then just bunking the class you will get better marks. Overall everything is good. Don't be stressed that its university so we have to study all day and night to clear the exams. It's not like that you should revise daily and you will get good percentile. Try to revise daily nor it makes you feel like a burden on you to prepare for the exams.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is really good and well-reputed. I chose B.com. Hons. because I liked the curriculum and also it overlaps with the exam syllabus of Chartered Accountancy. So one can pursue CA and B.com.Hons. together. The faculty-student ratio is far better than other colleges. In the first sem, there are 80 students in my class and we have 5 teachers teaching us. Faculty is also very well qualified, most of them are Phd holders and have 10+ years of teaching experience.Exams are timely and conducted in a centralized manner. It is easy to pass if one study judiciously and understand the concepts.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I wanted to pursue Political Science and the best place for that in India is Hindu College without a doubt. It has been Ranked 2 according to the NIRF rankings. The faculty student ration has increased over the years at 1:20 . But the quality of teaching hasn't degraded a bit. The faculty have top notch qualifications from esteemed universities like JNU, DU, Birmingham , Oxford etc. The exam level was generally between moderate to difficult but was very easy to pass. Except this year, every year the exams were held on time.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum was always updated based on the guidelines received. However, don't expect much learning just on the basis of course curriculum. Students do internships in their summer break to have that industrial exposure and for that purpose, the internship cell and placement cell work together to help students land great opportunities. The faculty is very learned and experienced and in B. Com Hons, I felt Dr. Lovleen Gupta ma'am is very experienced and teaches really well.
