- The Tale of Custard the Dragon, a humorous ballad by Ogden Nash, is about a cowardly dragon, Custard.
- Custard is Belinda’s pet, a young girl living in a little white house with her pets. Belinda also had a black kitten, Ink, and a grey mouse, Blink. She also had a yellow dog, Mustard and a Cowardly dragon, Custard.
- The poet claims that each pet is brave, apart from Custard. The poet describes the characters of the poem beautifully.
- Ogden Nash compares Belinda’s pets with a lion, bear and tiger, except the dragon. He says that Custard required a safe place. Everyone made fun of his cowardice.
- One night, they were all attacked by a pirate and everyone started hiding wherever they could.
