UGC Directs Universities to Address Student's Problems, Sets Deadline to Constitute Grievance Cell

University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all the universities to monitor the student's concern related to examinations and academic calendar. The Universities also have to set up a Grievance Cell for the same latest by May 30, 2020.

UGC has asked all the universities to follow the examinations and academic calendar guidelines issued on April 29, 2020. The universities have to plan the activities in accordance with the interest of stakeholders and the students, as demanded by the Commission.

The Commission took this decision in view of the rising coronavirus cases, due to which students are scared to travel back to their concerned educational institutions. It is also noticed that many students are facing issues related to exam dates, academic calendar, exam mode, back papers, collection of non-refundable fees, etc.

All these issues have to be addressed by the universities. The Commission has also asked the colleges to have a dedicated helpline number and an email to deal with the grievances of the students.

UGC also constituted a Task Force to address the grievances of the students due to COVID-19 outbreak. The Task Force must be proactive in taking measures as soon as possible.

UGC also asked for publicizing the redressal on a wider platform so that there is no communication gap between the students and the universities.
