Remarks

The good part about the college was the almost non existent student politics. The student crowd was largely premium with a lot of high achievers in various fields. The college has been able to maintain good infrastructure standards, largely a drug free environment, a safe campus and provide quality education at the same time. The only downside would be the pricing of the course which is quite on the higher side.

Entrance Preview

Manipal entrance Exam being from bangalore I had the option of CET, COMEDK and AIEEE.I figured MIT would provide me a better learning environment in terms of infrastructure. Also studying in an university city appealed to me more than studying in a metropolitan in terms of sheer focus on the learning.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I studied electronics & communication Engineering. MIT encourages foreign author books for its curriculum - which does a whole lot of good in staying away from spoon feeding textbooks of Indian authors. Also, the 8th semester is a classroom free semester and the student can concentrate full time on a serious project.

Internships Opportunities

My internship was with a startup in Bangalore. This gave me an opportunity to work on one project with a professor from Bangalore who was doing his PHD and one project with a professor from Sikkim who was doing his M.Tech.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements in manipal are the real deal companies believe in the quality of the students which was evident in the number of big companies (Microsoft, Yahoo, Schlumberger, Cisco to name a few) who came and took scores of students who are still doing well in their respective jobs.

College Events

4

Festivals are big and very well organised by the student council. Revels is the annual cultural festival and Tech Tatva is the annual technical festival. These festivals are well participated by the surrounding popular colleges like NITK, NITTE and most of the big colleges of Bangalore. Revels always includes a big banner show for example in our times there was a Strings concert, a Euphoria concert and a Great Indian Laughter Show.

Fees and Financial Aid

Manipal University used to provide free education to the first 100 rank holders of their entrance exams.

Campus Life

4.5

The student crows is extremely diverse with students coming from almost every Indian state and a lot of NRI students too. Gender ratio to be fair is a good 60:40 (M:F) in streams like Computer Science & Electronics but extremely poor for streams like Mechanical. Campus life is fun in Manipal. The town is filled with options to hang out like restaurants, lounges, snooker parlours, movie theatres, shopping stores etc. Nearby areas are extremely scenic, ranging from hills to rivers to lakes to beaches. Drama is extremely popular in Manipal thanks to the Dramanon group who used to have shows every semester.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostels are probably the best facilities if compared to any other college in India. Most hostel blocks are renovated and modernised to offer an attached bathroom facility to most students. There are also enough AC rooms to meet the student demand. Mess food is hygienic and most messes have a daily option for Non vegetarians.

Alumni/Alumna

After graduating from manipal I was contacted by their Alumni cell for information on my mailing accounts. After which I have been constantly receiving alumni digests to keep me up to date with alumni affairs.

Placement Experience:

From your 7th semester you become eligible to get placed and it is mandatory to get internship before you get placed which the college helps you to get and around 400-500 companies visit, and a good amount of offers are made by them. The average package stands somewhere around 11LPA -12LPA and the highest goes to 50LPA-60LPA and the median stands around 9-10LPA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As I'm in 1st semester. I will update you after my exams. But one good thing is that from this year, internals and externals will hold same weightage i.e., 50/50 If you can score more than 45% in internals which wouldn't be that big of a deal because they'll ask most the questions from class notes. Most of the faculties are average I would say. But some are good professors too. I chose CSE because I find these topics interesting since junior school. And everyone is just jumping into cse is a reason too lol.
