Course Curriculum Overview
This university has a widespread name for generations and so the courses taught here must be for not only students' academic excellence but also for their personality building. My course 'Political Science' has created my kin interest to study the subject in later life and when it comes with the name of Presidency University, it always offers better prospects for students. The faculties are very co-operative, responsible and student friendly except few in our particular department. The faculty-student ratio is 3:50. Most of the faculties believe in teaching in unconventional method, so they organize experimental modes for Internal assessment, exams and teaching courses. However the university has its biggest problem hidden in its untimely routine of completing syllabus and conducting exams or internals. Term exams are conducted just before the exams which is inconvenient, however the exams in our department are not too difficult to pass. The faculties give pass marks to all students.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course is very cheap that's why it is possible for students coming from periphery zones to come and study here. Fees Hike is also not very rampant. I get Swami Vivekananda Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship that provides 24000/year
Campus Life
There is no such tech fest organized centrally, however the students' groups get financial assistance from the university to organize fests. So annual fest are not held as such, also there is also no convocation ceremony organised. However the university and departments keep organising international, national seminars, webinars time to time which they get economic aid for. There are several books and journals available in library however the number is not sufficient enough. Amenities in classroom are also quite satisfactory. Extra curricular activities such as sports programs are organised. There also various students platform such as arts society, music society, film society, debate society which are run by students. There are some political wings of students too.
Hostel Facilities
Facilities given in the room are quite good such as light, fan, bed, study table, table lamp, cupboard. However the meal facility is not good at all. There is no tender for meal service, a canteen is run however that is on contract. Menu is well enough but the food quality is not good. Registration process for hostel accommodation is done through online process on university website and the accommodation is quite cheap. However the hostel is at 1 hour's distance from the university campus and there is no transport service too, provided by the university. Which makes the student travel with their own money and responsibility.
Admission
The entrance examination for admission procedure of this university is run by the Joint Entrance Board of West Bengal government, however this should be left on the university itself. Earlier it used to take the entrance exam in analytical mode of questions, but the exam is now conducted only with objective multiple choice type questions, it leads to the selection of students who might not have in-depth knowledge in the particular subject. Also the total seat number for students should be increased so that more students get to study here.
