Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Each course and department may vary in their curriculum design, so it's important to consider factors such as industry demand, alignment with current trends, and the depth of coverage in key subject areas. Mechanical, in particular, provides opportunities for students from 3rd year to choose their path of elective courses owing to the fact that it is a varied and diverse branch with many specialized dimains like robotics, energy engineering, production, etc. Faculty however is very strict and is the strictest in all of NITK. But if you are interested in Mechanical engineering this will not be a hinderance as many professors are more than willing to help you.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

All internships within the college arr research internships with no stipend. All the internships that are available are in collaboration with external organisations. In Mechanical engineering the internships available that I was aware of were in collaboration with DRDO, ISRO and other government agencies that are into research. From 5th semester you are eligible to sit for Internship opportunities in external agencies like Caterpillar, Google etc. About 200 companies visit for internships.

Placement Experience

4.5

5th semester onwards students are eligible for on campus internship offers and 7th sem onwards for Placement. Students are made aware of off campus opportunities as well. About 900 companies visit throughout the year for placements and roughly 80-90% placement is observed annually with a median package of 13LPA and average of 9LPA. Highest Package offered is by Amazon with a CTC of 54LPA. As a Mechanical Engineer highest package in core profiles is 20LPA and in branch highest CTC observed is 34LPA

Fees and Financial Aid

Tuition fees have been stagnant for many years but fees are constantly changed and revised every semester considering the many student held events and clubs. Same with Hostel fees where mess fees were always constant but other establishment charges are variable. There is no particular scholarship program by NITK that can aid you except for the tuition fee exemption for students from reserved categories. There are many external scholarships that the college administration will guide you to if they deem you worthy of one. As there are many clubs, the overall college life will make you busy all the time. This is good in the sense that these responsibilities are what give you an edge when placements come around. If you like to sit around and do nothing, this is not the college for you as you'll find after joining that those who sit around and don't actively participate in taking up responsibilities officially will find college life also very bland.

Campus Life

4

Two big fests: Incident(Cultural) and Engineer(Technical). Apart from these two, there are around 30 clubs with different expertise that conduct events all the time and competitively with each other. All clubs and fests are student run and administration serves the purpose of officiating only. The library in NITK is one of the most extensive in India with access to almost all Research Journals which gives you a lot of material on to base projects. There are many labs with crores of investment in equipment and maintenance. Access is restricted unless you receive the permission of the faculty in charge which is not that difficult to get. Classrooms are equipped with projectors and white and black boards. Based on convenience, each faculty member has their teaching style. NITK has grounds for Handball, basketball, tennis, cricket, football, swimming, kabaddi, carroms, chess, badminton, etc. Equipment is reviewed and purchased every semester so that students can play with the best equipment.

Hostel Facilities

4

Mess food is average. The diet is varied so there is no nutritional deficit. Food from all regions is included in the mess menu for which atudents can actively participate in choosing the dishes. Hostel rooms are well equipped. First years are mandatorily triple sharing. Rest everyone may get single rooms upon request. All Hostels have common bathrooms and are cleaned regularly. The hostel registration process is very smooth. Entirety of Hostel fees is 31000 per semester.

Admission

I got in through JEE. I am considered in open category. I secured a percentile of 99.12% which gave a rank of 9184. The closing rank for Mechanical engineering was somewhere over 9200. When I attempted JEE I got two attempts. Through thorough preparation, I found the exam rather low medium difficulty and got a satisfactory score. JOSAA counseling is the way to get into all NITs and it has 6 rounds where you will be asked to select your preference list of colleges and branches. Based on the preferences of those who ranked above you, you will be allotted seat.

Placement Experience:

From your 7th semester you become eligible to get placed and it is mandatory to get internship before you get placed which the college helps you to get and around 400-500 companies visit, and a good amount of offers are made by them. The average package stands somewhere around 11LPA -12LPA and the highest goes to 50LPA-60LPA and the median stands around 9-10LPA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As I'm in 1st semester. I will update you after my exams. But one good thing is that from this year, internals and externals will hold same weightage i.e., 50/50 If you can score more than 45% in internals which wouldn't be that big of a deal because they'll ask most the questions from class notes. Most of the faculties are average I would say. But some are good professors too. I chose CSE because I find these topics interesting since junior school. And everyone is just jumping into cse is a reason too lol.
