Course Curriculum Overview

4

The richness of literature always attracted to me. The curriculum didn't hold books of bookish nature but had real works. The teachings of the course aren't of spoon-feeding kind but something which made us explore, research, learn and re-learn by ourselves. Maybe a more feedback-based teaching could improve the teaching methods. And less importance should be given to additional papers from the core such as SEC, VAC and AEC (new papers according to the NEP)

Fees and Financial Aid

Yearly we pay 25000 rupees. This is for general category. There is not much or any relaxation in college fees for the other categories. There are not any other charges except examination that would range from 1k - 2k. For this, there is category wise difference. There are about 33 scholarships that the college provides starting from 700- 75000 rupees. There are different criteria for each scholarships.

Campus Life

3.5

The experience in the college is really vibrant. There are a lot of societies for all sorts of fields. The annual fest of our college is called Mecca which takes place in the month of April/May. It typically lasts for 2-3 days. The library is very rich in books of all subjects. There are also daily newspapers and magazines available. There is digital projectors in almost all the classrooms. Sports is given importance in the college and we even have a special course (sports for life which is optional) just for it. There is a big sports complex too. There are numerous student-run communities, societies, social groups in the college and they really have an impact on the student life of the college.

Admission

The college I got, Hindu College, was my first preference in DU. However, I had applied for colleges in my native state and even joined them since the CUET process was lagging. But once I got the college, I soon left it since my college was ranked nirf 2 last year (nirf 1 now). It is a very popular college acorss the country. The admission process for the entire delhi university is by an entrance exam called CUET (common university entrance test). The syllabus is purely and only 12th standard (and a few 11th standard books for certain subjects) NCERT textbooks. For my college and course, the cutoff for general category was about 770+. All the examination process takes place initially in the CUET website and once the results are out, counselling process and allocation take place in du website.

Faculty

4

The faculties are indeed approachable as well as proficient in their fields. I only know about my faculty, the English faculty. The professors are very knowledgeable and always open to clearing any doubts. There is an exam every semester. It is moderately difficult. But the marking system is pretty tight for arts subjects especially for a vast subject like literature.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
