Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Economics Hons is a very popular course because of it's relevance in real world as well as in business. People who want to do MBA in the future generally pursue Econ or Bcom to help them in their future course and have a stronghold in the subject. We learn maximising our profit and minimising our cost or loss with a lot of constraints, which is a real time application. We learn about the probability of a certain event happening with a lot of conditions so that in real time we can calculate if we should invest somewhere or not given the conditions. So overall it's a good course but you have to be very good in maths because that's what you'll be doing for the next 3 or 4 years My suggestion in the curriculum would be to update the syllabus and start including software early so that everyone has an idea and a lot of practice about what they'll be doing if they get a job in economics field. Exams are moderate in different. Just do book questions and pyq and you're good to go.

Fees and Financial Aid

Minimum fee for SEMESTER 3 course(s) INR 400 Additional fee for 2 course(s) in SEMESTER 3 INR 200 Fee for 2 PRACTICAL course(s) INR 400 Statement of marks fee INR 100 Examination form fee INR 10 Total fee INR 1110

Campus Life

We have an annual fest and people enjoy it too but it's just fine. There is no popular singer and no proper setting as well. So some students don't go. But departmental freshers etc are very good and an entire month is spent on freshers of each department and then the freshers party by the college. Our library is very good. It has more than 87k books and e books and is very accessible to all students. We have AC and big tables so group projects can be done over there. Technological facilities depend on the course. If you're from Computer Science or Geography then you have access to computer . 2nd and 3rd year students of Econ and Maths also have periods where they have to use computer. But otherwise no technology. Just chairs , fan , tubelight and blackboard. Students are very active in our college and are engaged in indoor and outdoor activities. Some students play volleyball some play chess and carrom and there are teachers appointed to teach them.

Admission

I scored 700/800 in my Cuet and my first preference was Economics Hons. When the first list was released I got Economics Hons and I was happy about my course but college,no. But I couldn't go to the second round because I filled my preference with BA program in the middle and was not willing to give up and hons degree to do program at a good college. I listened to a lot of YouTube channels as well and they said to prefer course over college and that's what I did. I didn't want to take the risk so I secured my seat in the college. Admission process is very simple. Everything happened online and you just have to go to college for orientation. CSAS portal is the website for admission in all colleges in DU and by paying fees and securing seats we got admission.

My course is economics hons so it is quiet tedious and hectic. Our teachers are good as they have an experience of 10+ years in teaching. They don't do partiality in terms of marks but they prefer students who are in the front seat or students who talk a lot. But they take doubts into consideration and help to solve them as well. They are quiet approachable as well and listen to students. During my first year, I liked Anjali ma'am the most. She was my mathematical methods in economics (MME) teacher. She didn't beat around the bush and was never partial to any student. For examination, one entire subject is for 160 marks out of which 90 is external and 70 is internal. In 70 marks we have Interanal Assessment and Continuous Assessment. For IA we give 3 exams of 12 marks each and best 2 are selected and 6 marks for attendance. For CA we give 3 exams of 15 marks each and best 2 are selected, 5 marks for attendance and 5 either for assignment or participation in Tuts or class in general

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
