Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course [Ba programme (psychology+ human development and family empowerment)] -which is my course, is easy to understand if you pay attention to it. As someone who did not study psychology in 11th and 12th , it was very difficult during 1st semester to understand the concepts and everything, but with the help of the books and teachers, i was able to get a grip on the subject. Although i feel like in such papers, only the theoretical knowledge is not enough, so i think the curriculum committee of Delhi University can work on it for it to have a more practical approach. The timings of exam, again, depends from paper to paper according to NEP. Core papers are of 2/3 hours , General Electives are of 3 hours and SEC, AEC, VAC are of 1/2 hours. The papers are not that difficult, if you can get a grip on the concepts.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

I've personally not done any internship provided by college but some people whom i know have done the internship and gave good reviews. The internship opportunities are sent in the official groups of college by The placement cell of the college - J.E.E.T

Fees and Financial Aid

I'm a 2nd year student at Indraprastha College for women, Delhi University. This college has one of the best Infrastructure from what I've observed. The teaching faculty is good not only in my department which is BA Programme but others as well. My course is Ba programme (Psychology+ Human development and Family empowerment). For the 1st year, fees was approx. 35000, but in 2nd year it reduced to approximately 25000. The administration of the college is honestly quite lazy and they'll take a lot of time to take action on your queries. The fees of all the courses reduced approximately 10000rs. From what i know the, for SC and ST category, fees is a little less and for Foreign Students, it's a little high. The College recently had a Nescafe opened in the campus and the iced tea and coffee at Nescafe is really good compared to canteen. The food at canteen is below average and i advise everyone to carry extra water because the water quality is very very poor.

Campus Life

3.5

The Infrastructure of the college is Very beautiful giving a vibe of 1920s British empire. The college, being the oldest women's college of delhi university, is quite prominent in it's beautiful shape. The society's of the college are quite active. The most popular societies and most active ones are: Afroza- Western Dance society Mridang- Indian Dance Society Abhivyakti- Dramatics Society La Cadenza- Western music society Aalaap- Indian music Society and many more... Their are Organising commities in every department and recently elections also took place in college for the new president, vice president and treasurer of the departments. The college holds quite a few events. Although no outsiders are aloud in the college, making the social experience almost non-existent, But the people in college (whom I've met) all have been super nice and friendly making your social life amazing.

Admission

I didn't apply to any other colleges. Being from Delhi, Delhi University was always the top and only priority. I had a lot of others courses and colleges like psychology hons. in Lady Shri Ram or Jesus and mary, and even English hons and journalism hons. To be absolutely honest, when i was alloted this college, i chose this only because it was in North campus of delhi university, but now looking back at the choice i made, i don't regret it even a bit. It was a beautiful choice I made.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty is quite good. From what I've heard, not only for the Ba programme department, but also psychology hons. , English hons. and BMMMC department, the faculty is good and very approachable. I don't have any idea about the faculty-to- student ratio, but the faculty manages their work well. The marking scheme is based apon the NEP, so college barely holds any role in it. The exams are held by Delhi University, so their are 2 exams for 2 semester in a year which marks the end of that semester. Besides the main end semester exams, the teacher's will hold Continuous Assessment and Internal Assesment activities which includes tests, assignments and presentations. The attendance also holds marks in your overall grade. The curriculum is totally relevant only. Whatever is mentioned in the curriculum is all important and related to your core paper.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
