Course Curriculum Overview

4

From the school time, I've had a keen interest in english literature. Curriculum does prepares you for the big world outside, not in the way one thinks it does but through the stories of the protagonists in the novels. About the timings of exams, I'll suggest that they should give some more time, considering the amount of syllabus students have to prepare for. When we come to the teaching method, there are many teachers who teaches amazingly when it comes to the poems but very poorly when it comes to the novels and plays. Plays can be given to the students to act/read out loud in the classss, while teachers can keep on explaining the main insight wherever it's needed.

Fees and Financial Aid

Semester fees was 10000 to 11000 for the first two years, which is first semester, second semester, third semester and forth semester. In the final year the fees was increased to 14000 and 15000 for 5th and 6th semester, respectively.

Campus Life

4

Considering its a girl's college, people generally think that there is no social life, but let me correct you, this college does provide it's students with social life. There is an annual fest called abhivyakti, usually takes place in March/April. Except that, there are lots of events/seminars taking place across the year, organised by various societies. One must join these societies as they really helps in building your character, leaving valuable leadership skills in the individuals.

Admission

During my time of admission in 2021, admissions in DU was based on merit. In the third list I made into my first college Swami Shraddhanand, but we waited for the fourth list and I made into Bharati College. We decided not to take admission in the first one as the locality of that college was not as good as Bharati College.

Faculty

3

I won't say that the faculty is very approachable as I personally found them very intimidating, but yes, they'd help the students if someone reaches out to them. I won't take the names but yes, there are lots of teachers who perform favourism. Only a few are there who'll focus on everyone and the whole concept of treating everyone the same. About the course curriculum, it's kinda hectic, as there are lots and lots of novels to complete in 3-4 months. Many of the teachers are not able to complete the syllabus on time and take extra classes (online) in the preparatory leaves. It just become very burdensome at some point of time due to the clashing of the dates in so many class tests/presentations and assignments, along with this, you have to prepare for the semester exams as well. It'll be easier if students start reading their syllabus from 2 months before the exams and not just leave everything on that one week before the exam.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
