Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum for BA HONORS POLITICAL SCIENCE in DU,particularly in the 5th and 6th semester is same as the syllabus but d UPSC civil service examination's Mains Optional PSIR paper. This is very helpful for those students who are dreaming of becoming a Civil Servant. As it is a Honors course, to pursue higher studies is relatively easy as the syllabus of PG courses in many of the universities in India are almost similar to what we have been taught in DU.Although PG is a very deep study so we should never consider it as easy. DU almost perfectly follows the annual calendar when it comes to examination.Odd semester examinations are conducted in the November-December session and the Even semester examinations are conducted in may-June session. If you have a basic knowledge about the at least 2 to 3 modules among the 6 you can Pass the examination without much tensions.

Internships Opportunities

3

At my time I was not really aware of much internship activities in the college. But in DU you will get great opportunities to do internships.Delhi University offers Vice Chancellor Internship Scheme offering student a chance to gain practical experience while pursuing their studies.Selected interns will be required to commit 8-10 hours per week and will receive a stipend of 5500 rupees

Placement Experience

3

The placement opportunities for social science students are as always is very low compared to other science and commerce cources. The only placement opportunity that we have offered was from 'Nation with NAMO' with a package between 4 to 15 LPA. Most of the students opt for political science or for that matter any of the social sciences is because of thei interest towards that subject and the major reason is to prepare for the civil services examination or to go for higher studies and get phD to become Professors or teachers.Specialisation in social science subjects such as International Political Economy etc opens up various analytical jobs with decent salary packages.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have payed between 22500 to 20000 yearly. When I joined my college the fee I have payed for the first year was 20000 and in second year it was increased to 21000 and in the third year I have payed 22500 Rupees. The fee structure of DU varies according to each colleges. This fee covers almost all fee expenses except examination fees which the university charges in each semester which was 550 when I was studying. DU provided various merit based as well as affirmative action based scholarships for students. There are college wise scholarships as well. Along with that UGC provides Undergraduates as well as post Graduate students with scholarships based purely on merit.

Campus Life

3

In DU and it's colleges, festivals are organised in every other day. Main fests are always organised during the month of March. In Khalsa there are various clubs such as JUNTO (civil service club) which organises 'Pragyan' during the month of March, NCC coy in the college organises 'FATEH -annual training camp' etc.. There are various other clubs or students organisations which organises their own fests and campaigns all over the year. Many of the classrooms are equipped with AC's and projectors. The college do have a decent library facility with a dedicated airconditioned Reading floor. The access to college wifi though is restricted to staffs only.

Admission

I was unaware of the allotment procedure of DU, so I haven't got any guidance to choose the best college according to my cutoff. The one Gijs reason to choose Khalsa was that it is situated im the north campus. As a Sikh minority colleg, it has 50% Sikh reservation in every category.

Faculty

4

The faculties at Khalsa at my time was among the best in DU . Yes there were exceptions.Nachiketa sir for International Relations Mushtaq sir for Western political thought are the two unforgettable names among those best. The exam pattern in DU is very descriptive, but the questions can be answered easily if you have the best subject knowledge. To get passed its very easy.We have to write a lot in the exams. The curriculum in DU for political science and the UPSC CSE optional syllabus for PSIR is almost same, which is very helpful for aspiring students.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
