an insight into statistics at Venky

As an individual i have always been inteested in probabllity and data analytics and this course covered both of these topics and ther is a huge scopee in the real world for such stuff. according to me the curriculum needs to be updated, the theory portion needs to be cut and more practical subjects need to be taught in classes. After doing this course onee can get into a lot of fields, for eg: acturial science, data science, research work etc. The exams are of moderate difficulty and are of 3 hours at thee end of every semester and the curriculum is very comprehensive upto a point but there are portions which are actually difficult and require a lot of time and efforts to understand.

Internship opportunities are available to students right from first year. The Placement cell organises an I-fair every year where in lot of different companies and start-ups comne looking for interns, some of them are paid internships, some are not and some are incentive based. There is no fixed set of companies that come every year for interns, companies are usually different everytime.

Students are allowed to induge themselves in campus placemment from semester 5. Few of the most popular companies that visited were Deloitte, KPMG, EY, PWC, Accenture, D.E. Shaw. Last year around 450 offers were made in total. The highest package was of 12 lakhs, on an average the package usually varies beetween 5 to 6 lakhs and around 30 percent of students looking for placement get placed. I plan on working in a corporate for a year or two after my graduation. After gaining Experience i would like to do masters in a related field.

The course B.Sc. Statistics(H) is very afforddable,the fees usually varies from 18000 to 21000. In the first year, the fees were 18367 rupees, out of which the Tuition fee was 250 rupees, the university fee was 2400 rupees, the college student welfare fund was 3489 rupees, the college development fund was 1500 rupees, the college facilities and service charges were 10228 rupees and the support fund for the weaker was 500 ruppes. All these charges and fees add upto 18367 rupees however in the second year the fee was hiked to 20533 rupees which was divided into tution fees -300 rupees, university fees- 2940 rupees, student welfare fees - 4300 rupees ,college development fund fees was 1800 rupees, the college facilities and service charges were for 10513 rupees, weaker students support fee 700 rupees. Fees was for all the students are same, concession varies student to student. There are a few scolarship programs and schemes offered to weaker sections on the basis of merit

The annual fest of my college is called NEXUS, apart froom that there is one celebration called JALSA for the freshers. NEXUS is a 3 day fest which takes place in march or February, while jalsa takes place in september or october. Apart from these every department has its own event fpor eg: the statistics department hosts Simulation every year. Sri Venkkateswara has the biggest library in the eentire DU circuit. the classrooms are poorly constructeed but each room has a smartboard, however they are not air conditioned. the college has a football and a cricket ground allong with an outdoor badminton, baskketball and tennis court. as dor inddoor games table tennis and chess are very much encouraged. there are lots of social clubs whicha student can be a part of for eg: enactus , 180DC , Placement cell. They help students in overall growth, gain new experience and learn different things as well as interact with others.

I applied to ISI, NMIMS and CMI and obviously DU. I was not able to crack ISI and CMI, hence i didnt't go there. i did get into NMIMS and I went there for a month but left in mid session as i got into Sri Venkateswara college of DU. I preffeered this over NMIMS as it was way cheaper, value of money was more here, apart from that nmims did not have a campus life there were no grounds, no cultural activities what so ever, maintainig attendace of minimum 85 per cent was a huge challenge in nmims too and the oveerall exposure, growth one can recieve in DU is much more. In order to get into my college, one has to give CUET Exam after which you have to make a preference list of which college would you like to go and what course would you like to study and if you clear thee required cut-off you will be offered the seat as per your prefernce list which you can either accept or declin, if the seat is accepted you need to deposit the fees, also you will have the option to upgrade to a college higher on your prefernce list if you have been alloted a college from your lower preferences.

The statistics department is composed of 10 teachers. Not all of them are very approachable, the most approachable teachers are chetan Verma sir, M.K. Sukla sir and Veena budhraja maam. the student ratio is good its around 1 teacher on 4 students. Among the entire faculty the teachers I like are Sukla sir and Veena ma'am, they are teachers who actually know what they are teaching and doing in the class, I have tremendous admiration and respect for both of them, they are always ready to solve doubts and take extra class if needed. according to me they are the best professors, on the other hand one of our teacher Kalpana Yadav ma'am has no clue what she is teaching, while two of my other professors Chetan Verma and Dipika ma'am at times teach wrong things in the class and often refuse to solve doubts or just ignore them, my other professors Ravi sir and Ramesh sir, both of them have great knowledge. ut they are unable to deliver it to the class there has always been a communication problem with them. We have 2 exams one is midsem and the other one is end sem, both of the papers are of moderate level and almost every student manages to clear them since the exam is entirely curriculum based. The relevance of the course is questionable because few such subjects are taught which will be of no use in the real world. there are no class tests conducted on a regular basis. personally I dont llike our faculty. The remaining teachers are Alok sir, Nagendra sir and Tanuja ma'am who havent taught us yet.
