Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is greatly appropriate and upto the mark and it is very much relevant and comprehensive. The aspects that led me to choose this course is that literature has always fascinated me and the various characters that we read during the course of this degree and they really help us in inculcating different positive qualities in our life so this led me to choose this course and study literature. The curriculum is sufficient enough to prepare us well for the outside world. Focusing on using diverse literature to include authors from around the world be it the great ones or fresh ones will help students understand literature better and know what to adopt in what way. Also incorporating studies and topics that connect literature with present politics, history and other well known subjects will help students to be more interested and driven by literature. The teaching methods should be more practical and this can be done through interactive discussions conducted on hogher levels like inter college workshops, character performances, regular seminars sessions and interactive group discussions with scholars of the topics will help students gain more and more knowledge. The workshops will also help students understand the topic in a better manner as it will create a mark on their minds regarding the subjects they are studying which will make them more interested to study the subject in more depth and help them gain better understanding of the topic. The exams are conducted twice a year and there in enough time gap between the exams which lets students prepare well for it.Also the questions asked in the exam are entirely related to the curriculum taught in the class rooms and students are able to score well in the exams. The difficulty level is not much and upto the mark as taught in the class rooms so it is easy for the students to score well. Also the students refer to readings, study materials and precious year question booklets which let them have an idea about

Placement Experience

4

The internship opportunities are available in abundance at the college and they are open to all courses and all years and it entirely depends on the potential of the students if they are able to crach the criteria or not in order to grap the opportunity

Fees and Financial Aid

The college offers scholarship schemes to students belonging to reserved category and those belonging to the category of persons with disabilities. The fees for students belonging to different categories is also very different. The students of general category have paid the highest fees.My fees for each year was approximately 15,000/- for each year and that had to be paid on an annual basis before the examination session in order to get clearance from all the departments. My other batchmates paid fees according their category of reservation or the scholarship scheme granted to them. The annual fees did not consist of the registration fees and it had to be paid separately from the admission fees at the time of examination form filling.

Campus Life

Yes camous life was amazing and full of fun and we wnjoyed a lot our college days as they gave us a whole new experience to remember for entire life of ours and gave a lot of new exposure to ourselfves.

Admission

At the time of admission,I applied to all the colleges of the delhi university for the admission purpose as when we applied for admission in delhi university,it gets applied for all the colleges automatically because there was one common registration form for all the colleges of delhi university.During the initial cutoffs I got my cut off percentage matched for janki devi memorial college which is located in karol bagh.It is an all girls college so i took admission in it intially and even attened the online classes for around 20-25 days.I took admission for english honours course in janki devi memorial college. Janki devi memorial college is a very good college. It has a very beautiful campus which is all covered in green and beautiful flowers and cery hygienic as well.We got to see the whole college through google meet as our batch was in online mode at that time due to the instructions of the government because of the pandemic going on around the world so we saw it online and enjoyed the orientation. The faculty at janki devi memorial college is very much professionally trained and qualified about their subjects and they taught really well and provided all the study materials and readings required for each of the subjects of our course. I never got any rejection from other colleges because i carefully read all the intructions and qualifications required before applying to any of the college and so i did not face any rejection. While other students did face some rejections because they were in rush and did not pay attention to all the instructions to follow before applying to any college as there were necessary steps that had to be taken before proceeding with the application process for admission criteria. The eligibility criteria and admission process for the colleges of delhi university is same for all.The steps for each course were different and they were clearly written on the website that had to be qualified before applying for admission in any college to avoid

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is not upto the mark as my course had around 100 students and we got just one teacher to teach us .This makes it very difficult to manage the studies and they do not have enough classroom space too to accomodate all the students in one classroom. This really has been a negative factor in my college tenure because it directly impacts our scores and level of understanding in the concerned subject and this thing happened for throughout the course tenure. All the students really suffered alot because even the teachers did not have proper sound system to reach out to the students who got to sit at the back of the classroom. This has been a major drawback in my college classes. Some of the teachers were really kind enough to cover up the entire syllabus which in dept knowledge and explanation well in advance of the exams and some teachers did not really bother about the completion of the syllabus and they kept on skipping the classes witgoyt any prior notice or information to the students. This thing really made all of my classmates suffere because we had to plan our day in advance as per the classes and those coming from far had to suffer alot because some days there were just one or two classes for the whole day and sometimes there was around 5-6 hours gap between classes and we specially waited for those particular classes and at the last moment we would get to know that the classes have got cancelled. This not just wasted our precious hours but also hindered our health because we had to travel back home in winters and these things really left us with no time to study.Even the syllabus could not get complete for such subjects and we had to refer to guides or previous year papers for such subjects. The exams used to happen twice in a year and each subject had one exam.We would get a day or two in between the exams as preparatory leaves and the exam questions were relevant to the subject taught as we used to refer to ten years too so it made it e

Night Life

4

The nightlife is not much fun as students live in hostel or pgs which have strict timings for going out and coming back so they cant step out at odd timings so it becomes difficult for them to enjoy the night life. That is why students cant rome around freely in the campus at night which is a good point also as they remain focused on their studied and stay safe

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
