Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum for BA (H) English is pretty fascnating if your're a literature enthusiast. The love for literature can be easily seen in every faculty member. However, the number of books does seem a little overwhelming every semester and its saddening how we cannot properly go through every text. The exams are conducted twice a year and the difficulty level is pretty low, it is very hard to fail these. It must be noted that a mere bachelor's degree in this subject does not guarantee a stable career and most students go for master's or some other degree after this.

Fees and Financial Aid

The annual fee is around 14-15k for humanities courses and a bit more for science courses. This fee includes everything except the examination fees which needs to e paid twice every year and ranges from 1200-1500 rupees. The annual fees is same for all students regardless of their category, Pwd students do get a waiver though. A number of scholarships and financial aids are offered by the college and can be applied to once you secure a seat. The details of the same are available on the official website of the college.

Campus Life

3

The college has a lot of cultural fests and other events that happenting almost every other day. There are plenty of clubs and societies one can join and each of these organise their own events. The annual fest Tempest is also pretty exciting. The library, like the rest of the college is really beautiful and has multiples floors. There are a wide range of books and journals available and the college gives the students access to the university's e-library as well. The only con is that the library is not air-conditioned which makes it hard to access in summers. The classrooms are spacious and have good ventilation, some classrooms on the top floor are air-conditioned. However, the college does need a few more rooms. The extracurricular activities are largely limitied to the students belonging to the P.ed. department. Other students do have access to sports equipment and can play for fun. But there is no provision of training for those who wish to start playing a particular sport. However, SEC and VAC do sometimes offer courses from the P.Ed Department. The college has a lot of student-run societies, clubs and cells. Thses play a great role in organising events throughout the year. These are the extra-curriculars that are accessible to each and every student. Most of these have auditions to recruit new members. The over-all campus life is isolated from the rest of the university. Being a girls college, there are a lot of restrictions when it comes to fests and events.

Admission

I did not apply to any other college outside of this university. Even within DU, Miranda was at the top of my preference list as it had been the top ranking college in the country for years and the english department also had a very good reputation. If not Miranda, I would have gone to Hindu College as it ranked second in the country at that time. In order to get into this college or any other college of the university, one needs to register for cuet first. The exma is then conducted around May-June. After the scores are declared, we need to register on DU's Csas portal where we can make a preference list. A college according to our scores is then alloted to us. We can either accept the seat or wait for the next round for an upgradation.

Faculty

4

The only problem about the faculty is the inconsistency they show when it comes to taking classes. othe rthan that they are very well qualified and most of them are pretty approachable. Taking about the course structure, it is the same as the other colleges in the universities, with three core papers, GE, SEC,VAC and AEC. The exams are conducted twicea year other than that assignmments and tests are taken according to the teacher's wish and these scores as well as attendance scores are added to the final grade. These extra subjects do seem like a waste of time as they take up so much of one's energy during assignment season. The system of giving extra marks for attendance also feels a bit unfair as it impacts the final internal score drastically.

Night Life

3

The University campus is not entriely safe especially at night. Howver, Majnu ka Tilla is a great hangout spot nearby. Connaught Place is pretty close by metro too. Within the Campus, Kamla Nagar and HUdson LAne are famous hangout spots. Miranda House Hostel does not have any curfew so its pretty easy to go out and come back whenever you feel like.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

The course curriculum is highly relevant and well-structured. It covers core subjects in detail along with modern industry-oriented topics. The balance between theory and practical learning is good, which helps students build strong concepts and job-ready skills for the future.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Being brutally honest I don't think that the course contributes a lot to our preparation for the real world but it teaches us very new things which I like. The course might not be very helpful in our real life preparation or the preparation for the real world but at the same time it enhances our knowledge and teachers as about various new things so I am satisfied with my course and whatever the curriculum includes I like it

In term of relevance I'll say that there are many topics which should not be taught as they are way too old and contradicting in modern times. New tumes problems and solutions should be taught in replace focusing on present.

Placement Experience:

Final year students are generally placed with an average package of 7-8 lakhs for management programs. Companies including the big 4 like EY, KPMG, Deloitte and other reputed companies have visited and many offers have been made. Around 60% of the students get placed in management branch. After getting the degree, I am also planning to appear in the placement opportunities.
