Course Curriculum Overview

4

The technical knowledge and the logical reasoning ability that i would gain from this course would definitely help me in future. This course would really help you to deal with real-world problems and help you in every aspect of growth. The teachings should be much more practical life based rather than theoretical which would definitely make the course more interesting.

Internships Opportunities

5

Since i am in first year i haven't experience any internship opportunities in the college but i have definitely heard of some famous companies such as Wipro, American Express, Tommy hilfiger, ICICI, Time Jobs, Barclays Bank etc. Has definitely gave various opportunities to our seniors. In short it has one of the best placement cell in Delhi University.

Placement Experience

5

The placement cell of shyam lal college is way lot better than most of the colleges in Delhi University. Some renowned companies such as ICIC, Genpact, American Express, Barclays, Time jobs, Westside and Wipro etc, has visited the college and recruited many of our senior batchmates

Fees and Financial Aid

In Delhi University, I am pursuing Bachelors of Arts in Economics Honours from Shyam Lal College (Morning) for which I am paying 22500 per year. The fees might subsequently increase in the coming years of education as my seniors told me about this. The only registration fee was for the CUET-CSAS portal by which we were eligible for the Delhi university round. The fees for Economical Weaker Section Students was around 8000.For the SC ST and OBC students fees are significantly lower than the Unreserved. My friends are paying the same amount that i have paid for this year. There is no financial aid unless you have a certificate for Economical Weaker Section(EWS) for which fees are much reduced for that cases.

Campus Life

5

At Shyam lal college the key festivals are: 1.) Annual Cultural Festivals: Festive name-Anugoonj Typically held in February and March 2.) Annual Technical Festivals: Festival Name-Techkriti Typically held in March or April These festivals involve a range of cultural ,technical and co curricular activities ,showcasing the talents and skills of the students. The library at Shyam Lal College is a well established resource center that supports academic and research needs. The library has extensive collections of books, magazines, journals and reference materials across various disciplines. This includes a good mix of academic textbooks, reference books and general reading materials. The library also provides access to e-books online journals and databases. Our College has facilities of smart classes but it depends if it is working or not and there are much more facilities available in the new building of our college. The Shyam lal college has wide range of sports facilities such as Cricket, Basketball, lawn tennis, Football.

Admission

I was dedicated to get admission in Delhi University as i knew that the lifetime recognition and the value of that degree would definitely complement me than other private or semi private universities. Although at first the question came that how would be the faculty, staff and college campus but in the end everything was at its best.

Faculty

5

As of know we are having two section merged so it is very difficult was the faculty to give attention to all of the students. The ratio might be around 1:50. The ratio might change in future. Our class teacher Supriti maam guides a lot she's very knowledgeable and excellent academic teaching experience. We only have one internal for each subject and the rest of the marks is for assignment submission, attendance, class participation.Apart from this we have our end semester main paper which is obvious in every college. The internal paper is much easier than the end sems.

Night Life

3

The locality of Shyam Lal college which is Shahdara in East Delhi is not at all safe at night, major crimes such as pick pocketing phone snatching happens in the daylight. It is very unsafe for the students at night to roam around. The best hangout spot must be the cafeteria or the open gym area. Also we do have an ATM facility inside our campus at the main gate.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

I wanted to do PhD in Political Science but due to percentage I took up BA program. Teachers used to provide notes but mostly I used to be off. There was nothing wrong with the college. Exam timings were good.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
