What Students Say
Likes
- DU provides a safe environment to explore different interests
- Best place to engage with people of diverse backgrounds
- Campus of nearly all the colleges is amazing and you'd get exposure
Dislikes
- Faculty could have been better. They weren't that interested in teaching.
- DU elections are hectic and could be disturbing for some students
- In recent time there has been a switch to strict discipline like school, which implies that colleges would not be fulfilling their purpose effectively
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum was apt. But i felt that it could use an upgrade. Things were too theoretical and lacked practical knowledge. It was heavily based on theory knowledge. If only they could use more practical applications.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees during the first year was around 10-11 thousand. And during 2nd and 3rd year it reached up to 13-14k. There were scholarship available for students from economically weaker section. Other than the college fees, which is paid yearly, there is examination fees. Examination fees is 200 per subject and you have to pay for practical exams separately.
Campus Life
DU is full of events throughout the year. There are fresher parties, farewell parties, departmental fests, college fests, elections. So the campus is quite happening. Also there are multiple societies like drama society and music society where people can explore their talent. Overall campus is good for personality development.
Admission
I had applied for DU because of this prestige and fame. But it was only after I got into the college that I realised that it was not worth the hype. I feel state universities may serve the purpose better. Then only impressive thing about DU is it's fests and parties. Other than that it was just not worth it.
Faculty
Faculty could have been better. Yes, there were a few teachers who taught us well. But on the other hand, some were not really that good. It felt like they lacked the required knowledge to enrich students themselves. There were regualrly scheduled internal and external exams. Internals were full of politics. And externals were not upto the mark. External exams are heavily based on PYQs.
Night Life
Being in DU has its own advantages. Canteens and cafeterias are good. And if they couldn't serve the purpose, the college area always have a popular neighborhood famous for food. For example Hudsone Lane in the north campus and satya nikatan in the south. As i didn't apply for hostel, so I cant say anything about it.
