Course Curriculum Overview

3

There exists only end semester exams that one has to crack excluding the internal assessments that take place. A total of 160 marks is divided between internals (70) and externals. On a personal belief, any degree you pursue cannot give you the real life experiences that you may look for. To have that you have to involve in competitions, certifications and even internships. Expecting your course to give you the real life direction will be a myth but it definitely builds a base for the same. For example, economics has made me familiar with various phenomenon and their working but is mostly based on assumptions that don't exist in real life.

Internships Opportunities

3

There are frequently coming roles for internships in the campus but recently talking about a few milestones we cracked- Investment Analyst intern at Zee Media, Data Analyst Intern at Hackveda, Campus Ambassador at College 18, Business Development strategist at GKSAS etc. These internships have turned out to be beneficial for a lot of students and have helped them gain hands on experience and practical knowledge.

Placement Experience

3

For the placements, one is eligible in third year only generally but first and second years can for sure apply for the various internship opportunities that the placement and Internship Cell brings to the college. Companies like Deloitte, Accenture, Zee media, EasyMyTrip, DeShaw etc. have visited the campus for placements and Internships. Generally the average package ranges from anywhere between 4LPA-6LPA. Last academic period aced a highest package of 24 LPA as well and 15 LPA as the second highest package. The placement quality is definitely improving.

Fees and Financial Aid

As an Economics Honours student, my yearly fee lasts upto 20,000-21,000 including the examination fees (which is submitted while filling the examination form and includes all the lab fee etc.) There is no uppercost fee that's applicable so far. During the admission, they take the complete fee including first year fee and this includes the registration fee as well. So far at my time of reg, it was around 20,000 itself. The fee may vary for various courses.

Campus Life

3

There are numerous societies available in college including the cultural societies like dance, drama, music etc. and academic societies like Enactus, tedx, e cell, women development cell. Apart from these there are various department societies and every society has their annual fests starting from month of January to any day till March and April. Since our library is one of the largest library of DU, there's no doubt in the availability of books. We have earliest to the most recent editions of various books. The classrooms are also well maintained but are not air conditioned so summers can be struggling. Additionally, you can go to various competitions and we do have a sports team as well that participates in sports tournaments too. A lot of facilities are available in sports complex as well.

Admission

While filling my preference sheet, I made quite blunders. Shivaji was not among my top preferences, infact it was there because it was very near to my home and have reduced the travelling time. More research on what colleges are available and for what courses is a must. I missed out a lot of potential colleges, otherwise there could've been a chance I would have gotten into a south campus college for the same course. For Economics Honours, CUET with Mathematics is compulsory to attempt for and a good cuet score as well if you are general category specifically.

Faculty

4

As far as my course is concerned, there is apt faculty available. I think that would be the case for most of the courses too because recently delhi University has undertaken permanence of teachers at colleges. Additionally, if required, the college arranges guest lectures for courses/subjects where there is lack of faculty for a longer duration. Also, the faculty is quite approachable and may help you for most of the tasks but obviously your concerns should be relevant. About subjects, apart from core subjects (generally 3) there are GE, SEC, VAC and AEC subjects that have to be opted by the students and it gives a liberty to opt the courses offered by different departments which is also an initiative under NEP. The exam pattern follows past year questions mostly but readings are not enough, understanding the concept is what will lead to good marks.

Night Life

3

The college is located in Rajouri Garden area and the main rajouri market is 5-7 mins away from college where there is everything from shopping outlets to street food to restraunts like barbeque nation etc. hence there is availablity of most facilities around the campus. There are no hostels in general offered but a lot of PGs and Flats that you can rent at reasonable rates. Hunger nation is the most popular food outlet near the college.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
